  28. If only nigerian government had proper authorities to investigate and see if this was just a mere accident or the fault of dana and its pilot, so that the families of these people can receive compensation. This is sad, NIGERIAN GOVERNMENT I Blame you, for not setting standards for pilots and airlines. I thank God my sister missed her flight, Her lateness to everything has finally saved her life. We all must die, not all of us live, so while we are alive, let us do all we can to leave a worthy legacy behind.

  36. May their souls RIP. The most traumatising thing is knowing your aircraft is going to crash and death is close but you can't do anything about it. My heart really goes out to the victims. Exactly a year ago, I was aboard an AERO flight from Abuja to Lagos and it was so nerve wrecking. We survived only by the grace of God. The plan lost altitude and all I could do was hold the seat in front of me like my life depended on it and kept calling JESUS! Our aviation sector needs reforms as all our planes are old and most of them are over-worked. May God help our country and may we seize to hear bad news. AMEN!

    1. What rubbish! What's the difference between linda posting it and thisday or vanguard posting it? The manifest was released to the PRESS by the airline. I had seen the manifest waaay before linda even posted it. So your friend would have preferred to wait 2 whole days to find out she knew someone on the plane? No sense in that

      Delete
    2. The manifest has been trending on bbm. Even at that, a friend found out thru the blog, but the family of the deceased had already bin contacted. The friend isn't a family. So he had no right 2 be contacted on phone. Besides, it will also be printed in d newspapers tomorrow.

  56. Why should she take the names off? People need to know about who may or may not have been on the plane. This was the first place online or on television that had a manifest. When our own national media does not know how to be accountable why shouldn't people proactively take it up? If heaven forbid, you thought someone you knew might be on wouldn't you want to confirm it ASAP? May God grant them rest and help the rest of us here.

In China they executed executives who sold milk that killed some babies. We should borrow a leaf from them. Someone must be held accountable, and punished, or good people will continue to die like chickens.

  74. Nigeria wake up.... Not only do we need to pray we need to start DOING - The plane should of never taken off as it was reported faulty a few weeks ago. Secondly it is a 22yrs old+ plane...... Why was it used and how often is it througly checked and serviced? If this happened in London all involved would of had to face a trial..... But nothing will happen in Nigeria!

Nigerians we are joking with our lives! I live in London and when I got the news I cried my heart out not because I knew any of the passengers but because this could have been avoided.

Last year April I flew to Nigeria from London via Arik. The flight was delayed because of engine issues. They told us they were going to borrow a particular part from another flight, all the passengers refused to get on the plane 'borrow keh..... God forbid' we had to get on a smaller plane to Abuja first then to Lagos.

There is no short cuts in life. Once the Nigerian government get this as well as the business that deal with people's lives such a as airline companies....The more lives we'll save.

    1. My dear, I flew arik to lhr a few months ago, before takeoff the AC wasn't on, they said engine problems. Thinkin back I realise how risky it was to even continue on that flight. The word engine is reason enough to abort. May His will be done!

  79. A tanker killed my mom in nigeria while she was driving on her own, my brother collapsed on a football field and was rushed to three different hospitals for help while he battled to live, doctors were not there, no oxygen, nurses did not know how to perform CPR I mean nothing!!! now look at these innocent souls, 152+ families are in tears right now for deaths that would have easily been avoided. not to even talk of Bauchi people. I am so sure life expectancy in Nigeria now is 25! What nonsense!!! No rescue efforts, no ambulance, nothing! even when you want to help the darn country, wicked, selfish and greedy people won't let you! Now lets see what the weak nig. govt will do/say? I must stay in America! Jesus, Nigeria is frustrating!

  88. NYC-1 says: Anon@ 8.49 PM, no one could have said it better.

Why this waste of lives? See what inept ministry has caused. Why should aircraft 50 to 60 years old be in airspace? Why can't they get things right for once? Why should travelling be a death trap?

We pray to God to have mercy on those who lost their lives. But we should also be worried with the way things are going on in Nigeria.

  89. It's been confirmed that there r no survivors amongst the passengers good news is the the occupants of the house it crashed into survived. 2 people I know in that plane crash I'm so devastated right now n it's so sad becos the stupid airline knew about the faulty plane now 6 innocent infants died n some other kids. Also heard iyanya Was supposed to be on the same flight as they went for same event in abj but he missed d flight. Hmmmmm may their souls rest in peace Amen

  93. that final moment when all you have is hope, God, and wishes...
i visited the site coz its close to my house and even if there were to be any survivors, the delay caused by traffic, the mammoth crowd interested in taking pics and looters wont even let the rescue teams close by..people with dreams, hopes, bb porsches, louis vuitton bags, huge bank accounts all gone in a flash..just 3 mins away from the airport,,damn
eye witness accounts said the plane was hovering around that area for a few mins, looks like the pilot was struggling to land at all cost..i imagine the fear, the panic, damn!whatever happened, God knows best..
Those families who were in the house the plane crashed into wouldn't have dreams they would die via that manner. Maybe they had never seen the fore walls of an airport.
lets just try to live life knowing we aint taking a dime with us and it could be anybody, anytime anywhere..

  99. my friends their soul cant rest in peace, they didn't die peaceful death, nigeria will never be in peace, children blood are shared , little kids blood. people at place of worship ... old woman, windows, gentle men, good girls , husband wife, friends, family broken heart shattered . soul disengaged . home full of tears. imagine how many names there. what about the bauchi. what about the ibadan road accident, the tanker crash, i'm not in nigeria or african but i'm feeling so sad and like my mum or dad passed on now, imagine your wife to be pass on. like this? my friends GEJ has broken hearts. shattered spirit.

nigeria aviation authority has killed enough soul. business has been recked.

i can imagine the last emergency call th e pilot made to lagos tower,

the guys in lagos tower might not pick the call, or been busy chatting on bb,

    never helped anyone.

maybe bribe caused all this... when was the last time the plane was serviced?

is that pilot properly trained ?

do they have emergency team? why didnt the pilot or captain make emergency landing in illorin or return to abuja when he noticed the plane wasn't good shape.

did he check the flight before leaving for lag?

    Does he have enough gas?
    Both eng working?

    what is nema doing ?
what happen to fire service? why did people die with out help.

if i'm to ask this question i know linda might not allow it but she would at least read it.

Why don't nigeria have enough ambulance for emergency, and professional doctors?

Why didnt the passenger parachute off the jet ?

Could this be that the plane was highjacked ?

    by terrorist group?

    did anybody check in explosive?

    who checked in the plane?

the boarding officer should be arrested instantly for questioning?

Nigeri aviation authority chairman should be in jail now.

the president should resign not later than 24 hours .

    why take people for nothing.

imagine loosing your own son or daughter on the plane, either beeing on it or the plane crashed on him or her at home.

linda tears wont let me ask more question.

others are celebrating queen's diamond jubilee , am in the room crying my girl friend is tired of it. but why is nigeria never reliable ?

i better die in the royal marine than die as a pig in Nigeria

  101. I thought I would feel guilty if I found that I never moved back home. But now, i'm thinking what is there for me in Nigeria? Horrible cycles of incompetence and corruption that would never break? Lives and rights being treated as though they mean nothing? These people were MURDERED by Dana Airlines and the authorities who should be assessing airlines for safety. And what will happen? NOTHING. Nigerians will just be saying eeyah and talking about about end times. Nigeria is just messed up.

  126. I don't understand. One of the major issues in Nigeria is that information is not disseminated and now that it has been done here ... people want it to be taken off? With all due respect, people who know their families are on board will NOT be on LIB in the first place. They'll have other priorities. People who don't know for sure if they know people on board will be looking for a confirmation. And please don't be ignorant, asking why you have a manifest. It is standard procedure to release the names and it's a national shame if that list is not able to be released on the same day. Would you rather not know and be in agony for days? If you don't want to know the names, don't look at the manifest!

  129. My apologies to Linda, another blogger also has this list up. I guess this is the norm in Nigeria. We allow ourselves to be ruled by our emotions instead of adopting a measured approach to extreme situations like this. A flight manifest should never be released into the public domain in such an unofficial way - but wetin I know! Again my apologies for calling the release callous. One of these days Nigerians will have the wisdom to be the change they want to see.

  133. msg frm a friend...
I was on this same dana plane 23 may. It was delayed from take off from mm2, I saw the Philippine mechanics with buckets draining out hydraulic fluid under the left side under carriage tyre mechanism, a part was taken out but not replaced, yet we were told to board. I told the flight supervisor my name that am an aerospace sys engr and am concerned at the operational state of the plane, the guy told me to see the pilot, I did, he was a Caribbean descent capt & nw zealand asian looking co pilot, he confirmed work was done and asked how I knew, I said I saw it from d windows of the aircraft and the part was not replaced that I aslo saw the mechanics Philippine & indian guys under the plane, he told me don't worry if its not ok we won't fly. I pinged my family and friends of wot I saw and the names of the people I spoke to. Should anything happen as well as asking that the plane is taken off but am just a simple powerless passenger. We landed and the pilot waited at d door to shake me as to say I told u. Sadly this plane wasn't taken off service to sort out the hydraulic leak or landing gear problem bcos it was still making money for Dana, now Dana plane has killed my friend Ehime and ijeamaka & 151 others. All bcos they refused a simple precaution advice over their financial wants. My story can be checked from dana airline/mm2 logs. May God burn you all in Dana.
PLS Send this to mr president governors senators reps nigerians &even to people selling Dana products anywhere before they try to cover it up........

Their children are damn too young to loose both parents. Going to Lagos after the day's service to honor a woman of God. What a sad day in TREM. What a tragedy, what a loss, what pain, what sorrow, what calamity, what darkness. My heart is heavy and bleeding.. Nigeria knows how to murder their best . The owners of Dana airlines should summarily be executed.

  141. There is no point arguing over whether the manifest should be published. Its avaliable elsewhere also.its time for action in Nigeria, no more planes that are sub standard should be allowed to fly. If you can't afford planes that are in acceptable working order then you shouldn't be operating an airline. The Nigerian government needs to wake up to its responsibilites of proper regulation and holding people accountable. No more turning a blind eye.At the end of the day corruption and greed are so emembedded in the Nigerian way of life its scary. Only God has the power to rescue and save Nigeria. Its time to come together and pray

  163. It's indeed a black Sunday. We woke up with the bombing of a church in Bauchi where 12 lives were lost. Still awaiting the regular 'cut copy and paste' condolence from Reuben Abati when this news came up. And all we get is a 3day mourning, afterwhich the govt will set up a committee to look into the matter and come up with a white paper. How long wld we continue to go in circles all I mean all our problems in Nigeria are man made. I was watching BBC news broadcast here in the UK and was really ashamed of quick they were to insinuate that it could be a fall out due to the level of corruption in Nigeria. Particularly pained cos it could have been any one of us on board.
