Should the US include Boko Haram in its foreign terrorist watch list?

I'm sure you have all heard that the US government is considering including Nigerian militant group, Boko Haram, in its terrorist watch list. Now the Federal Government, through its US ambassador, Ade Adefuye, and the National Security Adviser, General Andrew Azazi, have formally asked the US Government not to do so because the move will definitely make it more difficult for Nigerians to travel to the US and even cause friction between the two countries.

Should the US not include Boko Haram in its foreign terrorist watch list? Please share your thoughts

  4. In as much as I will like that, I know it will affect all Nigerians especially the Muslims.

I am Christian and would have loved to say they should put muslims on the list but we all know 99% of muslims are innocent of this crimes.

I still insist that its the pple from Niger and mali dat are destroying the names of majority of our muslims friends.

  18. @12:01 you are the biggest fool ever been created on earth. Those stupid countries you just mentioned, can you compare their economy, rule of law, politics etc with that of U.S. Only "evil" hates "good" so I would definitely say you are a devil. U.S has been trying all their possible best to make the world a better place for us all to live. I doubt if you are not Boko you asshole. They should just list Boko as part of watch list coz we are not ready to end the menace. Maybe when we listed, they would find a solution to it coz I don't believe our soldiers aint enough to tackle the insurgency. Instead we deployed soldiers to Mali when we have not tidied our problems. Bunch of motherfuckers calling themselves PDP. God will punish whoever vote for PDP in the next presidential election. Amen

  24. THEY SHLD INCLUDE THEM BCOS THE FEDERAL GOVT DOESNT SEEM TO BE ABLE TO WANT OR DO ANYTHING...ON THE OTHER HAND IF THEY DO WE WILL BE PERSONA NON GRATA IN THE WEST IN DIMENSIONS WE HAVE NEVER SEEN BEFORE...NIGERIANS ALREADY RECEIVE A VERY BAD RAP AND TO ADD A FACTION OF THEM TO THE TERRORIST LIST WILL SEND US INTO THE DOLDRUMS...IT IS A DOUBLE EDGED SWORD...IF THE GOVT DON'T WANT THIS TO HAPPEN THEY NEED TO BE MORE PROACTIVE ABOUT DESTROYING THESE NUISANCE PESTS BOKO HARAM!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  25. The question is who is boko haram, is it muslims, is it christians, is it government or is it nigeria? Given government's reluctance to take people's advice on how to tackle the situation (with their possible membership)and having caught a sizable number of christians perpetrating terrorism acts similar to those of boko haram. If US listing will help in ending the terrorism, then it will be a welcome development. However, if it will only worsen the issue? Please they should stay off!

    ReplyDelete
  26. HAHHAHAHA, ABEG, Boko Haram, is already on that list. U.S wants to find a way to make it known to the public. Americans dont take chances and will protect their citizens and say forget the other country and their feelings. When them they include regular people whom look suspicious, then u think they wont include boko haram, google it and lets see

Politicians stealing billions of dollars, no good roads, no electricity, no good healthcare services,no security of the citizens. The good schools are only for the rich. Huge gap between the rich and the poor. Now BOKO HARAM. Nigeria is a failed country

  34. For those saying yes, how will putting BH on their watch list benefit Nigerians and Nigeria? You should know that Nigerians will definately be the ones to be affected. Traveling abroad not only to the US will be a problem for many people even if they have genuine reasons. Apart from that, has US succeeded in their fight against terrorism...in Afghanistan, Pakistan, Iraq? No...just money wasting and killing of thousands of innocent souls. You don't want the US government to start using their drones on Nigerians which will be worst than the crimes BH members are committing on belove Nigerians. When we post comments, we should really be mindful of our ideas, concern and reflect with our intellects....and not just making comments for the sake of making comments.
Ask yourself, why do you say yes to this question? Is it because you think this will benefit us Nigerians and Nigeria? DO you think this will will the crime BH is committing all in the name of spreading their ideas?

Ask yourself again why you think yes is the answer?

  35. Our rulers aka wannabe leaders will definetly oppose this. Cos, it will mean BH is no longer a local chamions matter o, it haff reach international, meaning that ndi America can decide to want to investigate properly, so that they can profer a solution, and you and I aswell as our rulers know that alotta them will be implicated. #shikena. As for me, I say YES YOU CAN USA.

    ReplyDelete
  36. No! Bad idea. They should list individual members definitely but blanket listing an entire group AND ANYONE WHO HAS ASSOCIATED WITH THEM, EVEN PASSIVELY (including maids, drivers, servants, etc.). This will create even more difficulties for Nigerians overall and won't pressure BH in the least.

    ReplyDelete
  37. In what way is Boko haram a threat to the US pls? bloody asswipes who will not mind their businesses.
BH is a group who want to distabilize this present administration and it is not as if GEJ is doing anything fantastic to make the people want him to stay on.
So plssssssss US should look for another prey!

  39. @Anon 3:50 you are such a dumb ass. You obviously stab classes when you were in high school. Didn't Boko bomb U.S embassy last year? Didn't they abduct 3 foreign nationals and slaughtered them like a cow? Don't they have links with Al qaeda? All YES!!! You sat down their with your dumb head asking what business U.S got with our country when they have lost some of their peeps. You think U.S is like Nigeria that deaths of Professors, Doctors, and other professionals been lost in the hands of some miscreants known as Boko Haram don't count? U.S values the life of a citizen and go to any length to rescue a citizen. If you are not learned or informed, pls shut your trap and watch smart people comment...........feel like slapping ur ugly face coz I know you are. Asshole........Olumayo

    ReplyDelete
  41. What is boko haram before if not a terrorist group? Abeg make them include them, if Nigerian government cannot live with the shame, then, she should find a lasting solution to the Boko Haram madness.

    ReplyDelete
  42. My people please listen and learn.

The issue of the US designating Boko Haram (BH) as a terrorist organisation goes beyond the group itself.

Once they make the decision and proscribe the organisation then ALL Nigerians are in trouble not just BH members. What follows are countermeasures, sanctions, embargoes etc, etc against Nigeria. It will seriously affect our financial system, our banks will not be able to conduct correspondent relationship ( which means you will find it difficult to send or recive money from abroad), debit/credit cards issued by our banks will not work outside this country , there will be no direct foreign investment, opening LC and conducting international trade will be almost impossible.

With your present condition where you produce nothing and import everything ... you are dead.

Remember once the US goes ahead with this classification, be sure their EU cousins will follow and every other country.

We will become a pariah nation.

So if the FG is begging the US to tread softly and give it more operational and logistic support to tackle the menace, it is based on the reality above.

l do not work for Jonathan but this is my area and it is complicated more than these beer-parlour views some of us are posting

Unlike the stupid government in Nigeria, the lives and well being of American citizens matter a lot to its government. They just dey carry GEJ and his cohorts dey play ball

    1. And who looses? Must you go and queue for Visas in desperation?

These foreign Consulates staff can smell your desperation for Visas and so would ordinarily deny you the privilege of being issued Visas to their countries; but keep the non refundable fees.

You'll always get Visas in so far as you do not present yourself as being desperate.

  45. Anon May 24, 2012 8:44 PM; well said.

  46. Anonymous 8.44 and co saying no, rubbish!

I'm Muslim, a business woman, international traveller, and I say yes! Y? Because I have nothing to hide and I hope for a better Nigeria someday.

What has the Nigerian government done for us? Both the present and the past? Do you look at yourself and around you and you are content with the high rate of poverty, insecurity and what not? Perhaps you are, but majority of Nigerians are not. Progress is not made until there is change! Change will not come to us on a platter of gold!

The problem with most Nigerians is fear! If we have to suffer today (once and for all) to bring about change, so be it! We have been suffering for a damn longtime anyway. Might as well do it once and for all! Even if it means a few of us dying to bring about that change! BH, will soon wipe us all off at this rate anyway!

You talk about sanctions, embargoes etc. Who are you kidding? Who will be most affected? Our corrupt leaders!! They are sucking us dry and killing us slowly but surely. Perhaps faster than boko haram is!
America or not, Nigeria needs some form of foreign intervention ASAP! Even if it means them leaving with a fraction of our oil, I dare say, so be it!

Already, as a Muslim bearing a Muslim name, in Nigeria and abroad, I have been a victim of stigmatization. I am more than ready for change!! I do not trust Nigeria in the hands of our so called leaders. We need the perpetrators of this evil acts exposed ASAP and you are talking about financial institutions suffering etc. What economy? Do not be delusional, Nigeria is a failed nation, period! A time bomb waiting to explode! Nothing America or the EU can do will make us suffer more than we already are!!

Those of us with Internet access, a job, education, etc are the fortunate few and constitute a very very very small fraction of the populace! Get with it!

    ReplyDelete
  47. They should include them in the foreign terrorist watch list. The Nigerian leaders are useless, so the foreign need to involve in it.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Foolish Foolish Foolish LIB commentators that says yes to this are only showing their ignorance. it makes me afraid to think an overwhelming majority support this move. Have you THOUGHT of the ECONOMICAL IMPACT? I have been in two business discussions with foreigners over the past 3 weeks. They have refused to bring business to Lagos Nigeria because of the insecurity issues. They have chosen instead to go to Ghana. Ghana!!! Have you thought about the harassment you will have at immigration centers? do you understand the import of being labelled a TERRORIST? of being on a watch list? obviously you don't. Why don't you use your common sense and think broadly?!! foolish foolish ignorant youths. Use your bbery internet service to find out information.

  49. Is it really wise for the US government to include BK on their terrorist list. Remember: any country (Pakistan, Afghanistan etc) the US security force set their feet, the consequences are always terrible. I pray war does not break out in this country.

  50. ya i totally agree with the DUDE that refused it..... cos putting it in the watch list tinny would automatically put naija there..... but wait aren't we already there?*hehehehe

    ReplyDelete
  51. They should be on the list. The government is not taking serious action to get rid of Boko Haram. Is either Nigerian leaders act smart for once and take serious action or the foreign take action. This should be a wake up call for Nigerian leaders to their job.
