Ali Baba sets new record in stand up comedy in Nigeria

On Saturday May 12th, during the deluxe edition of Bunmi Davies' Stand Up Nigeria comedy show which held at the Muson centre Onikan, the original King of comedy, Alibaba, sat in front of an audience and cracked jokes for 6 straight hours. There were no other side attractions, just him on stage...and people who were at the event said he didn't repeat any Joke.

Six straight hours? This is a feat no other comedian in Nigeria has been able to accomplish. All hail the king!

    1. Where did you leave Gordon's? That guy is the most original comedian i know in naija. And guess what? His jokes are not necessarily those rubbish jokes you will wish ur 8yr old doesn't have to listen to

  5. Ali baba used to be very funny years back but not any more. He was the only comedian well known then, thats why he is refered to as king/doyen of comedy.

    1. Awww, I don't particularly agree with this. Ali is the most down to earth comedian I know but am not friends with.

I'm happy he's waking up and holding his spot as #1 down. He was very complacent in d past and was only living on past glory. Nice comeback ali

  10. Greaaaaat I was sooooo suprise when I saw the promo of Afican King of comedy and Alibaba was not on the list of comedians to perform why leave out the real King in a show for the Kings?

  11. You have to understand that Ali Baba is as natural as they come. Its sad most other comedians joined as a result of poverty which they all seem proud to profess any day. Ali Baba ventured into comedy when there was basically little or no money in it and has been helpful to most other thriving careers in the field. Other industry heads should take a tow abeg.

  15. So how long did the whole event last for? 2 days?

  16. Ali Baba na my man any day. Have always been attracted to his kind of comedy. The same admiration is also there for Basket Mouth.

These two for me, are quite cerebral in their approach. They have a laid back and homely approach. Not forced. I love them.

  17. i still think his jokes are very much dry...there's not much humour in them compared to the jokes that the like of i go die, basket mouth, funny bone, mc shakara, even seyi law cracks..*eyes rolling*

  18. Are u kidding me? 6 str8 hours*rme*

  19. And where can we get the tape to catch a glimpse of his jokes...Much ado to Ali Baba...He's in no doubt the best

  20. SINCERELY, I DO NOT THINK ALIBABA IS FUNNY AT ALL. WHAT I ADMIRE IN HIM IS THAT HE HAS VISION AND CAN SELL SAND EVEN TO AN ARAB AND SNOW TO AN ESKIMO.
I LIKE HIS SENSE OF PACKAGING OR BRANDING AS U MAY CALL IT, ALSO APPRECIATE HUMANITARIAN ASPECT. HE WAS SYMPATHETIC TO SO MANY AND HELPED TO BRING THEM UP.
HE IS WHAT TO COMEDY WHAT TUFACE IS TO MUSIC THEE ONLY DIFFERENCE IS THAT TUFACE CAN ACTUALLY SING.
GORDON IS REALLY THE BEST, AY ISNT FUNNY AT ALL,B UT HE IS A BIZ MAN TOO.
    MY OPINION

  28. It was a double show, 3pm- 6pm, 7pm- 10pm that saturday.

I was at the second show...He held the audience...people laughing thier hearts outs for the whole time.
I learn t the first show too was laughter all through. I thought I was going to be bored....but that didn't happen.

    Lets give it to him!

  30. Is this guy FUNNY. Hell NOOOOOOOO!!!
He's such a bore, yes he started it when the industry was nothing. But he's NOT the king. How many UK/US shows has he ever done? NONE. Basket Mouth, I go die, Bovi etc sold out 02 in London.

    Ali Baba KING of BORE!!!

  31. It must have been a boring 6 hours. To me he is hyper-dry. The best comedians are basket mouth (though he is sometimes raw) and Gordons. Ali Baba should go and rest.

just like AY,who is good with packaging, skits and sketches but actually broign with the stand up thing

i'm happy for him tho, if he's made a grand comeback

  41. Nigerians shld stop hating and learn to appreciate stuff! You can not do 6hrs of comedy if u are dry! U wont trust me! 4 u to keep ur audience on dia seats 4hrs den sth special kept them! I think Ali bee has been misjuged cos we do not see much of him. we only get to c him entertain big shots who wld laff at anything!hence our conclusions
    Big ups bro!alibee4lyf!
