Pictures from Funmi Iyanda's Climb to Mountain Kilimanjaro

 The award winning producer and broadcast journalist joined other climbers from 32 different countries on a 5day UN advocacy trek up Mountain Kilimanjaro. The climb was organized by the UN to raise global awareness on its campaign to End Violence against Women and Girls. Continue to see more photos...

    Well done Ms Iyanda. We are very proud of you. E no easy to climb mountain. Other Nigerian women should take note and make a difference like this woman is doing. It's not just to sit at home mpopping babies out like rabbits and then sending them on the streets to hawk goods when said kids are older. Let's try to make the world a better place.

    This is my opinion and any potential insults hurled at me will go back to you and your generations unborn.

    I've always have huge crush on Funmi Iyanda...She is soooo smart, elegant, humble and above all: she is Caliente....(She is one of the few older femmes i admire); Met her once @ the "shop & eat" section of the Rockefella building and had a good lunch convo with her for an hour.

    We need women and saw called A-Z lists celebs (Linda included)to give back to their society without bring in media for photo ops

To others, from my understanding....they get sponsors and try to raise money from them for this particular cause....her pledge is to go for this task while her sponsors provide the money that will create awareness to end violence against women and girls

    It's a greatday!Guy getting to the summit of Kilimanjaro "Uhuru Peak" is not easy as I recall reaching the peak with Nigerian National flag March 2011. Let us simply celebrate her whatever the case.Congratulations @funmilola from me @awesomecoach

    Climbing mount kilimanjaro, may not end 'violence against women and children' but it draws attention to this socio-cultural issue. When people come across the news that some people have gathered to climb a mountain as huge as the Kilimanjaro, they are bound to ask what it's in aid of. Then the issue of violence against women and children will come to the fore. If that person is unaware that women and children constantly face various forms of societal violence and conflicts then the advocacy against evil strikes him/her. It might move such a person to begin to enlighten other people who may not be in the know.

    Ok, for those of you who don't have google and keep asking how this benefits a cause, here's how it works. A person undertakes to do a difficult task. There's media attention on it, also bringing media to the cause that the person is doing the task for. In some cases, you're made aware of ways to donate money towards the cause. Sometimes a company sponsors and says if you climb Kilimanjaro, we'll give 1 million dollars to help cure cancer. At the moment, @sportsrelief is going on in the UK and its the same principle. Various celebrities undertake various sporting activities, bring awareness to an issue and raise funds.
    And those complaining about her looks, y'all need to get out more and quit being so anal. (End of epistle)

      Thanx so much for the explanation. I was really pained by d silly questions most pple asked on d relationship btwn d mount climbing and d awareness. Atleast, some asked innocently to know while most asked to beef. This shows dt most pple are just too shallow minded and will only prefer gossip and sex related stories. Even my little Son understands dat drawing pple to participate or get informed about a difficult task cld be to create an awareness for a theme. Welldone Miss Iyanda. Her personal live is nobodys damn biz. Get charitable and stop being holier than God cos even Jesus mixed wt everyone.
