Families of Slain Alleged BH Members In Borno Accuse JTF of Extra Judicial Killings

Last week, about 11 alleged Boko Haram members, between the ages of 16 and 22, were killed by the Joint Task Force (JTF) in Borno state. Even the Fields Operations Officer of the JTF, Colonel Victor Ebhaleme told journalists about the killings, which he said happened in a gun fight that lasted for several hours during a stop and search operation, along an undisclosed road in Maiduguri.

Now the families of the 11 young men killed are accusing the JTF of extra judicial killing, claiming that the JTF stormed their homes, took the boys alive and murdered them without any provocation whatsoever.

The families gave the names of the slain youths as Baba Kaka Dala, Ali Dala, Mamman Mustapha, Mamman Rosi, Hassan Mohammed, Mohammed Wakil Bala, Babangida Adamu, Baba Kaka Goni and Adam Konto.

You cant get it past thes our security people to just waltz into someone's home, shoot the person to blazes and term him boko haram. Just to prove they are working.

  7. The people killed by JTF might be innocent people living around the area. I know Boko haram murdered many people, but there was no proof the people murdered without evidence were Boko haram members.
Even Boko Haram made it clear that the people killed recently by the JTF were not their members.
And nothing, no matter how wrong, justifies extra-judicial killings. Just imagine if during the fuel scarcity protest in lagos, a government office was burnt down by OPC, then the Amy barges into house the same night, without any thorough investigation, and execute your husband, sons, brother or even boy friend, then announces that they were members of OPC.
On the other hand, I personally don't believe BOKO Haram members would stick around in town while they were fully aware the security agency could retaliate.
Personally, I believe these people were innocent especially after watching the news. There was no gun battle, JTF simply rounded-up all the men they found during their house to house raids in the neighbour-hood and summarily executed them without due process. Africans are not Animals; therefore extra judicial killings, whether by the Government security forces or by terrorists is wrong. Let us value human life better; for it is what differentiates us from animals.

Rule of law should be applied, the JTF have no proof. they shouldn't kill people anyhow although even if they were guilty, justice should be served.

whilst they were joining terrorist groups they didn't know someday it will backfire. kudos to JTF. I encourage them to fish out more BH members.

  13. While I abhor the BH. It is pertinent to note the the soldiers have run amock in the North. maiduguri especially. Once there is a BH bombing, they go into the nearest villages, and randomly select men over age 16 and shoot them in front of their moms, sisters, wives.

Their rationale is that the BH members r villagers and r being hid by the villagers. Many innocent lives have been lost. Unfortunately, when the villagers report suspected BH members to the police, the BH guys hunt the 'informant' down and wipes his whole family.

Many pple r living in perpetual fear and even prefer when BH bombs cos @ least only 3 or so pole r killed as against the soldiers killing twenty and above on a single rampage..the situation is very bad and a news coverage should be about it.
