Interesting that a majority of the reviews here are positive. Prior to this post, I did some research into skin lightening products that don't contain hydroquinone for my mum and came across Makari. Approx 75% of the reviews I heard/read were negative.

Ambi works good too and is not expensive. The moisturizing cream has no hydroquinone and makes the skin tone even.

The truth is if you go beyond plain old cocoa butter and jergens and start using "toning creams" - you are bleaching. Whether for the glow or the lack there of. There is nothing wrong with well moisturised dark knuckles or knees. I have very dark elbows - because my mother is white and my father is a black man. simple. there is nothing wrong with it.
ReplyDeleteKimora Lee-Simons is not exactly a good spokes person for anything having to do with color, bcos belive it or not, Kimora will always have a glow and at her darkest she will be lighter than half of the folks that ever attempt to use the products. so no, she is not a yardstick measure.

you cannot compare London breeze to Naija breeze now. I get very pale during the winter on top of ori/okuma, aloe vera and cocoa butter! When i'm in Naija i use sunscreen with 50 SPF.
My friend used the serum i think. She's heavy on creams so may have been using it with other things.
The thing is, what works for one person may not work for the other. I have sensitive skin so i don't use anything except it's prescribed by my doctor (yes, i'm that pedantic!)
The prices are not so dear. some Clarins, Elizabeth Arden products etc are more expensive than Makari. It's sold in PAK and i trust them with original for anyone who wants to buy it in London.

The most important thing one can do to make the skin glow in addition to protecting it from harsh elements especially the uva/uvb rays of the sun is to put on sunscreen.
ReplyDeleteI use neutrogena age shield sunscreen; specifically spf 110 with helioplex. It is light and non-greasy. I dot it all over my face and neck and then gently rub it in so that all of my face and neck are covered. Sunscreen should be put on at least fifteen minutes before leaving one's house. I put the sunscreen on my face, neck, and feet, elbows, and knees. I then use another sunscreen for my entire body. At a minimum use an spf 30, but given the intensity of the sun in West Africa go as high as you can and make sure the sunscreen shields the skin from uva AND uvb rays.
Wearing sunscreen reduces or prevents hyperpigmentation,slows down aging of the skin including collagen breakdown and wrinkling. To boost the power of sunscreen, apply an antioxidant serum first like the ones made by Exuviance in the green bottles, wait five to ten minutes for it to absorp into the skin and then apply sunscreen.
Skin lightening, brightening, and bleaching products should be used at night because they do not interact well with the uva/uvb rays. So, I suggest using these at night and then using the sunscreen in the day.
Finally, improve your diet by increasing water intake, fruits, vegetables, and limiting salt, junk food, sugard, and saturated fats. When I am in Nigeria I eat a whole fish a day and the amount of Omega-3 in the fish is amazing. It made my skin glow and improved my feeling of well-being.
Also polish face and body at night with a gentle scrub, loofah, washcloth etc. for better absorption of products afterwards. Again, polishing the skin should be done at night. Generally, skin treatments should be done at night.

I bought mine directly from their website and shipping was free. If u used the same products and it ddnt work for u then u can try any Gluthathione product. A friend of mine just started using Glutathione and so far it is working for her. I'm already using Makari and do not want to switch or else i would be using the product. anyway u can try Glutathione. U can read more about it online. Its really good they say. They say all these yankee celebrities like awon beyonce and rihanna use Glutathione to lighten their skin. They take the glutathione tablet so they don't need to be rubbing cream. Anyways the one my friend uses sha is called Gluta C and its from this website www.funkymommy.net they ship international if u are in naija.

ReplyDeleteNot all lightening creams have HQ. I think it’s now banned that’s why companies are moving to other types of skin lighteners. Even HQ can be used for a short while but must be stopped as advised by a dermatologist. However, most people just keep on using it.
There is a difference between toning and lightening. For example Rita Dominic and Rukky Sanda are bleaching. Meanwhile, Nike Oshinowo-Soleye and Omowunmi Akinnifesi are toning (they are not yellow or pale but have lightened since they first came out.) Also, some naturally light people tone to avoid going dark wherever the sun is really harsh.
Then there are those that get light on anything. I think this is what happened to Adaeze Yobo when she was pregnant. Her hormones may have made her very light and or she was using products that had no obvious lighteners but as she scrubbed or moisturised the skin, she got lighter. I remember i read that she uses Clarins. Some of their products lighten especially if they are alpha-hydroxy based.
My husband’s knuckles are very black &he said it’s from smoking. I also have a friend whose knuckles are black and she’s dark. She said it’s also from smoking. I’ve also heard that a lot of skinny people have natural black knuckles and ankles. I don’t know how true this is.
The issue with black knuckles/elbows is more of a perception thing. You said you have a white mum and black dad. Anyone who sees you and knows you are mixed may or will not associate you with skin lightening. That’s not to say some people of mixed parentage don’t tone! Then there’s the perception of when you see people especially light skinned people and their knuckles are black, you automatically assume they are bleaching. Loads of people who bleach also work on those areas and have them just as light as their skin. It’s a no win situation TBH.
Anyway, most people say Makari gives them bumps and pimples. Isn’t that a con? Especially if you stop it and your skin goes bad. For the price, that’s not good. There are much cheaper and more effective things out there.

The product based on finding is not good for Oily skin becuase it contain fish oil etc. I deal on Makari range of Product for Dry skin perfect. For oily skin DO NOT GO CLOSE Body Beautifying Cream you can use Hand and Body Lotion and gentle soap please, based in Port Harcourt. based. Moreso, we work under sun what do you expect not forgeting I have used the product Body Beautifying Cream and Exfoliating soap meanwile which of the cream we use matter alot.
