I'm being sued...

OK, so I received a call and a letter from a few lawyers very early this morning saying that I'm being sued for defamation of character, for a story and comment I allowed on this blog recently. It was mostly for the comments. I have since taken the post down but unfortunately they have a printed/cached copy of everything that was written which they plan to tender in court.

I'm scared out of my mind because I've never been in this kind of trouble before. But my lawyer, who I just came off the phone with says they don't have a case. Is he correct? Can I beat this?

According to the letter, the case is before an Ikeja High Court...

I'm kidding o, nobody is suing me. Hopefully, that will never happen..:-)

    Hi Linda,
    your forum is an open forum, you are not liable in away for comments posted by the public. As long as you didnt write the story or made it up, and you quoted where you got the gist from...you shd be fine, just a waste of time and money to go to court.

    Don't be scared Linda.
    You can not be sued for the comments people leave on your website.
    Your website is a public domain.
    Why should you be held responsible.
    You need to put a disclaimer on your site stating that you are not responsible for the comments made.
    They are using scare tactics and the fact that you've said you are scared is working.

    Breathe...you'll be fine. Get a good lawyer.

    They don't have any case. If there was a case, everybody on the internet will get sued. There are people that talk more harshly about their opinions about other people, and dont get touched. So keep on blogging and relax. They don't have ish...Its called freedom of speech

    Until we no longer have a security of lives

    Until what should have been basic amenities are the achievements of corrupt politicians

    What seems like a puzzle definitely has an answer but the answer cannot come from corrupt system that produces corrupt people that ends up to loot the nation’s treasury in a corrupt ways.
    The answer can only come from the mind of those, who have long dreamt of the great Nigeria that calls to arise, o compatriot!
    The answer can only come from the mind of those, who see government as an avenue to serve and not to sacrifice the treasures and potentials of this great country on the altar of corrupt bi-lateral trade with the aim to move our treasure to their secured oversea bank accounts
    Unknown to them, Generators are back-up for emergency power shortage not like in our Nigeria, that it is the source of power
    Unknown to them, those stolen money only contribute to the development of other nations where they kept the money
    Unknown to them, government is an opportunity to serve without seeking any personal favour but the welfare of those that entrusted you with power
    Unknown to them, that weeping may last but for a moment but one day, the eyes will be clear to see the truth
    Finally, I am starting a movement of mind that will be motivated to move to their desired destiny in putting this country to the path of glory again.
    Conclusion
    I may be a minority but making impact is not of the class you belong but of the character of your mind! My desire is that by 2027, Nigeria will be entrusted in the hands of credible people, which I wish you can be part of today.
    The expected change can come long before then even if it looks dicey but I have a great hope that when it is our time, things must turn around for the best.
    For the vision is yet for an appointed time…….will you rather join us or join THEM?

    Linda, I am a lawyer and several times I warned you about these posts. The truth is that you need to consult a badass lawyer when you are starting this kind of business and I imagine include an exemption of liability clause that way.....Only recently in the US a jugbe granted an order forcing a blogger to reveal the identity of an anonymous person who posted defeamatory words about a person on the blog. Do take care, my advise is tht you consult a very good lawyer.

Last time we checked Linda does not reside in whatever state in the US u claim..She resides in GIDI-NIGERIA.....Second of all the US is one country that practices freedom of SPEACH...So i doubt Senate can never ever approve such a trivial rulling to be enforced in any state when there are more important tissues in the world to solve! Least of all NIgeria..Infact any case of defamation of character would be thrown out the courts espcially certain things are true and if pictures from personal FB are used as evidence. I am a lawyerand i know what hold water and what doesnt!..

    Lindas job is Showbiz and she could equally say she intends on going to court to reveal the identity of people that make life threatning and rather disturbing threats at her...You forget that when you point a finger at someone, 4 fingers are pointing right back to you!...love you Linda and you are truly covered by the blood of Jesus!x
