Goodluck Jonathan to the rescue of Nigerians trapped in Egypt

President Goodluck Jonathan has directed the National Security Adviser, Andrew Azazi and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Odein Ajumogobia, to immediately evacuate Nigerians who are trapped at the Egyptian airport in Cairo.

The special adviser to the president on media and publicity, Ima Niboro, told journalists yesterday in Addis Abab that the president gave the directive Sunday night following news he received while attending the 16th Ordinary African Union Summit. About 200 Nigerian travellers, which include students, businesspeople, government officials, and others on medical visits are said to be stranded at Cairo’s International Airport due to the turmoil in the country. They are also said to have been at the airport for days, unable to contact home, as Egyptian authorities have blocked mobile services as well as access to the Internet. - 234next.

  3. Come rescue me. I'm stranded in Las Vegas. Nigerian politicians are opportunists. They don't do things except there's something in it for them. All this Mr Jonathan's so called rescue of stranded Nigerians na election winning PR. Him no want any bad press to cost am votes. I don't vote any more. Never again. I've given up on politicians. Mr Jonathan and Obasanjo has already selected who won the presidential election. Smh.

  4. Nigerians and always criticizing, Just applaud the man for what he has done. This put him on an international platform like every developed Nation should do, Britain and American did that for their citizens, why not him. I cant comment on the Jos issue cause am not sure what ,measures they are taking to deal with the situation. But am glad Nigerians have been treated with dignity by our president which for me is the first time. I am not even a Jonathan Fan yet but am starting to warm up to him, he seem like a leader who listens. Way to go. Nigerians Change is coming. We are the future, Just watch us take over the world, but we need to be positive and speak of our country with pride where ever we go. God bless Nigerian and her Inhabitants

  6. @Anonymous 5.27 you sound like the biggest dummy. And I hate insulting people. How many people are in Jos, okay how is he supposed to rescue them. Now compare that to the amount of Nigerians in Egypt. Real life example. US is evacuating Americans from Egypt. Why did they not do that for American in New Orleans when Hurricane Katrina happened? Because of the difference in numbers. Also not to sound insensitive for the most part people in Jos could actually flee to other areas of Nigeria. Nigerian in Egypt don't have that same option. One thing to not favor the president but try not to sound ignorant in the process.

  8. @Anon 10:33 u r the 1 that sounds like an idiot. Noone is asking him to evacuate the people in Jos. anon 5.57 just simply wondered if he had dealt with the situation in Nigeria before hopping on the publicity train. Linda posted a report last week about Nigerian prisoners in one african country (can't remember right now), a lot of noise has been made about people imprisoned (rightly/wrongly) and brutally killed in other countries, yet Jonathan has not lifted a finger. I'm my opinion, the guy is a figurehead who rode on the coattails of people. He has never achieved anything on his own (politically i.e)
It is obvious that he is doing this for a popularity boost and I indeed wish for a safe return of our Nigerian brothers and sisters. But you musnt forget one thing, he has only ordered that they be evacuated. We have to patiently wait to see that come to fruition.

  9. @Anonymous 3:02.
You can say this man is a figurehead, but he is the most democratic president we have had. Which might not be much when looking at our past leaders but still a step in the right direction. You brought up prisoners in another country being killed. Let's stop there, PRISONERS, they aren't exactly on the same level as innocent Nigerians trying to leave Egypt. If you said they were wrongly prisoned then that is another subject. Did you look up the laws of that country to find out the extent of the Nigerian government's power to go into another country to help those prisoners, or you think he can just go in there with guns blazing? When you answer that then we can talk. Also you bring up Jos, after various attacks there is still no clear indication of who all is doing the attacks. What do you want him to do, suggestions are welcome you know? I apologize to the other anonymous, after reading the comment it could have meant something else.

  10. anon 10.33pm i am anon 5.27pm
did you actually ask how many people are in jos?
    SSMH.
try sitting with your younger sister while she recieves texts
of her fellow UJ students being attacked.
try driving thru different corners/lungu's in jos just because you want to buy pepper & tomatoes.
thank you anon 3.02am i was only wondering what he has done to solve the problem.
anon 10.33pm i wont waste my time explaining to you what i meant by a short sentence. Those with depth understand!

  11. Jos isn't that important then? Just shows he's part of the cabal causing the mayhem there.

  12. @Anon 7:36 I knew someone was going to pick on the fact that I mentioned prisoners. So because they are prisoners they are not human beings and they do not deserve the right to fair judgement? Before yiou talk about laws, you need to know that I am a lawyer and I know what I am talking about. Besides, why should people be killed because they carried drugs? Are they serial killers. Offences should be weighed against punishments. Why can't you talk about those wrongly convicted and killed? For example, a guy took his gf 2 china, they were both found wiv cocaine, the guy explains that he put the drugs in her back and she had no clue but they were both killed. Did they have fair legal representation? Did they have interpreters/translators? Were they allowed to communicate with people who could assist them? So before running of your mouth and talking about them being prisoners you should realise that they are human beings.
He is the best democratic president? Please, what exactly has he done or achieved that should make him deserve that accolade? I would pick Obasanjo anyday, anytime (although he marred himself). So before shouting about his "goodluck", ask yourself in what ways he has helped Nigeria. The man has no plan and you guys are dancing to the tunes of non-achieving piper.
@anon 5:27 I hope some people would finally learn to ask questions and not just accept things at face value.

  13. The Us Govt didn't evacuate folks form 'Nawlins? Really?

I guess all those moved to the superdome (sp) in H_town and elsewhere by FEMA got there by magic...

  14. Can't stop laughing. This post is full of Anons debating and challenging other Anons. Funny Nigerians. Lol.

  15. Let's start:
@2:19, yes they put them in the Superdome, and when women and children were being raped, and people were being robbed what happened? Did they move them again? No they didn't, because there was no where else to go. If there was a Superdome type building in Jos wouldn't you think it would have been offered for the safety of JOS citizens.
@9.27 you can't further explain yourself because your sentence could have different meanings. It has nothing to do with depth. If the article talks about the president evacuating citizens and you come and say what has he done with the ones in Jos, that could very well mean you want him to evacuate people in JOS. In the future do the better job of explaining yourself.
@12:56 Yes I mentioned prisoners and I would mention them again. When you go and commit a crime in another man's country, more than likely your treatment would not be the same as the other citizens. Even in America when a Nigerian commits a simpler crime the court system sometimes treats them like they committed murder. Through all that rambling you mentioned being a lawyer and I asked you previously do you know the laws, yet you failed to state what permission and how the Nigerian government can go into another country to get our prisoners that are being wrongly treated. Actually you did not state anything.
Now here are my reasons for GEJ being our most democratic president, one way or another he himself is breaking down the PDP which has stalled our progress for many years. And no I don't think people of the same party have the same principles. Also if you haven't noticed there is a new surge of younger people getting involved in politics trying to get their vote heard, making sure to take part in voter's registration. That didn't happened during Obasanjo's term.
Also our president is heavily involved in privatizing electricity, which is THE only way to get electric power to a population as large as ours.
Madam/Mr. Lawyer please come back with your suggestions since you know laws I really want to know what the president can do to get the prisoners.

  16. You talk as if Superdome was a hotbed of violence, there were a few isolated incidents and once they happened, security was beefed up...
