"Uti Nwachukwu can't be NDTC Ambassador" - Segun Runsewe

Runsewe and Uti

There has been calls from several Nigerians to make Uti Nwachukwu, the BBA All Stars winner, one of the Nigerian Tourism Development Corporation (NDTC) Ambassadors, but the Director General of the corporation, Mr Segun Runsewe will have none of that.
His reason when you continue...

"This guy plaits his hair and wears ear rings, which I consider unAfrican"

Plaiting hair and wearing ear rings is unAfrican? Lol...if you say so oga DG!
But what do you guys think. You think he's got a point?

  1. NTDC has got what they look for before making somebody their Ambabassador. If Runsewe says UTI is not qualified, so be it. I agree with the DG that it is unAfrican for a male to plait hair and use earing. Those who are doing it copied this from foreign culture. Linda, just mention one African country where it is there culture for men to plait their hair or use earing.

  2. @surprise,the masai's of kenya plait their hair and wear earrings so that argument doesn't hold water and we all know hip and appealing these days tend towards that.

  9. UTI's appearance is definitely a turn off, ambassador or not, but i think the Runsewe dude should have put that statement in another intelligent way..dude just came all out..LOL

  10. what of the Nigerian Fulani men that plait their hair and wear ornaments?

In the modern era, Men plaiting their hair and wearing earrings has been popularized by African Americans (hip hop artists and sportsmen) who started the trend in the 80's to 90's in a bid to be "more African".

JSYK Segun Runsewe, this trend has its roots in Africa.

  14. On a serious note Uti can't be an ambassador of Tourism, he doesn't deserve it. It's not because he won BBA that he could be one so for real that no be Uti level shaa!!

  15. hell no, Uti can not be.

  16. Lol.. the post and comments,
    I can't stop laughing..
Sorry, but when it comes to serious issues, I'm a lil sceptic about a guy who actually takes his wonderful sweet time to make his hair..
I'm okay with the male afros..
But making your hair and spraying, other things involved?
    HELL NO!
Call me old fashioned or inhibited, na you sabi.

  17. wow. where is the handbook of "africaness" that tells us how we should dress and act?. I say if UTI is qualified let him do the job because i would rather have this man with braided hair that got his money from a legitimate source than a shady character with low cut hair.

  18. Surprise 11:17pm, in kenya the maasai men plait their hair by tradition. in kenya also, the men wear earings, again, by tradition.

  19. 9jalife, na you get am... nigerians like to hustle backwards, na hin be the beginning and end. i mean, how close-minded can one be to capitalise on his plaits and earrings. i didn't even notice that uti had those till i read this. he just appears like a confident, hip, young man. he will appeal to people all over the world. if they are wise, they will ask themselves just how well the supposed clean shaven and non-earing-wearing ambassadors that they have had in the past have faired. smh.... my country is just full of hypocrites. so what's wrong with his hair again?

    ReplyDelete
  20. personally,i feel evry1 has a right to look the way he wants.if Runsewe feels he's not ok with uti's dressing,then...no show.he's d boss!!! really,why uti??

  21. this is a case of having retards for leaders. for those of you saying it is unafrican for men to plait their hair should go and read about the history surrounding African hair and you'd realise that African men used to not only plait their hair they also wore jeweleries. its is even from the Europeans our men learnt to stop wearing jewelery because it was thought to be barbaric.

moving on to Uti, i have to agree with NFATA that Uti looks like a down-low gay man and should come out of his closet or if he wants to remain there change his looks to reduce suspicion because right now all i see in him is a receiver.

on to the subject matter, Uti being the ambassador of Tourism is just rubbish to me because, we aren't in the celeb-driven USA so if we are to give somebody ambassadorship the person has got to earn it and not just because he stayed in a house for 91 days cursing the life out of his housemates.

  22. Unafrican!!!...this guy says unafrican...this guy doesnt know the first thing abt being african...firstly looking bak at our history u would find lots cultures with guys braiding their hair and wearing adornments.....Secondly, not that i'm saying Uti should be an ambassador but cmon the guy has got recognition on d continent.....jst imagine d guy in an ad promoting Nigeria....i mean it beats seeing dat ad on CNN with a former head of state(tagline:WELCOME TO NIGERIA THE GIANT OF AFRICA>>:D:D:D)u guys knw who i'm talkin abt.

  23. scankmypeaceofmind, u attention seeking fool, u are the gay idiot and u are also the receiver. If a man plaits his hair and wears earrings does dat make him gay!!!!! ur comments are always negative and filled with hatred and jealousy. You must be so poor and jobless, u comment on all blogs and ur comments are normally virile and filled with jealousy, get busy, get a life and stop hating, u never make an constructive criticisms, who are u to judge who is gay, u must be gay to know, keep on hating while the young man is moving up the ladder of success, u must be a very negative person. Green is definitely a horrible color on u. You really are one of those pple rihinna perfectly described, u are a looser with no life. No mata what u say, he is recognizable all over the continent while u hide behind blogs judge and hate. If ur ass is hurting u for receiving different d...cks (Linda sorry abt my language) take ur anal pains somewhere else we don't care. FOOL!!!!

  27. It has to be based on his ability to perform efficiently. On the issue of men plaiting their hair, a part of fulani in Jigawa states, have their men on braids and they wear colourful ear rings. I guess the are from MARS....
