There's a video circulating the internet about 'sexual harassment allegation leveled against a lecturer at the Ambrose Ali University Ekpoma, Edo State, Nigeria. Investigation conducted since the release of the video has confirmed that the man appearing in the video is Engineer P.O Otubu of Elec./Elect Engineering Department.
It's such a sad video to watch. Very dehumanizing. Efforts are being to get the lecturer's side of the story, so hopefully we will get the full details of what really happened.
They say it's sexual harassment. Maybe. But I also see extortion...
And you can read the transcript when you...Continue

well what i see is a rogue lecturer with rogue students. what was the check for anyway? IMHO, all those people do not have any business near any university.
ReplyDeleteLOL! I saw this a few days ago and it cracked me up... I understand the frustrations of students being explotied by lecturers- yet, they went too far with this guy. I mean, naked pictures of him all over the internet... damn... he has been Wande'd. :)
ReplyDeletehahahahaha....saw this d video dis morning and i laughed my head off. that mans wife should divorce him. he has brought shame to to her. see how he digraced himself just for4 mintues of pleasure. The students went too far by extortring him sha and dat could count against them.
ReplyDeletehope every lecturer will see this and learn from it.
LOL. All I see is mutual greed in that video. It's clear that the prof is used to using his "power" to bed students. Well, now the students use him to get money. The lecturer is a big fool! I'm sure he hasn't even learned his lesson. In no time he'll be back to bedding students for grades.
ReplyDeleteWhat a shameful and disgraceful lot- all of them!!!
For the ills that the current lazy bunch of lecturers in Nigeria have done - this is nothing. In other countries, lecturers work hand in hand with industry writing papers and advancing society through research etc. In Nigeria they are responsible for vast amounts of sexual molestation and corruption. This is just starting. I saw a man molesting your fellow woman and you saw extortion. There is something wrong there dont you think?
ReplyDeleteThanks for the way you put this post Linda. I hope the right people get to handle the matter.
ReplyDeleteLinda, if I were you, I would take down this link and distance yourself from this situation. I am an attorney, I am giving you free legal advice before you get hit with a defamation suit. I am not this professor's attorney, but after watching this video, I realize there are serious legal implications for those involved and anyone that may republish the video.
ReplyDeleteI was thoroughly shocked by what I saw. What these people did to this man has serious legal implications and does not prove he is a sexual harasser, but a victim of financial conspiracy, assault, battery, defamation, duress, and extortion, all of which are torts or crimes under Nigerian law.
What I saw was a man that was made to do unsavory things under duress, e.g., the threat of physical harm. There are no videos showing what people claim allegedly led up to the video, which is that this professor is sexually harassing students. Where is the video of that. The only video is that of a man being victimized for money in a country that is notorious for 419 and other financial crimes.
And because he was made to do things under duress, under the law he is not a proven sexual harasser, but a victim of battery, assault, defamation, duress and extortion, which is a crime under Nigeian law.
Based on the forced nature of the situation, for all we know, these people could have dragged him into the room or lured him there under pretense and he could very well argue this in a court of law and use the video to support it.
As for the woman in the video she is a STUPID FOOL. While she is busy talking about calling his wife, she forgets she is on video as the alleged "other" woman. A video that will circulate forever on the world wide web. At the same time, her male conspirators stay safely behind the camera hiding their faces. Go ahead I say. What wife would even give audiance to a diseased-looking ashawo that looks unwashed and lives in a dirty room.
Courts look at what can be proven and not hearsay or bald allegations. What can be proven is that this man was victimized by some men and a woman. Everything else is hearsay. If the individuals felt they are in the right, how come some of them hid behind the camera?
I don't understand why some people find this video funny. It's crazy, I couldn't even watch it to the end.
ReplyDeleteIt's sad that some of our youths are as lawless as the leaders we have today. Shame on all of them.
Two wrongs can never make a right.
P.S I agree with Joohls 'all those people do not have any business near any university'
@Anonymous 424 pm
ReplyDeleteFirst of all, I have a Juris Doctor in Law so, I actually know what I am talking about.
In order to bring a valid claim and succeed on defamation, there must be: 1. a defamatory statement, 2. of and concerning the plaintiff, 3. there must be publication to a third party.
I am also an attorney and from what I learned in the first week of law school, Truth is an absolute defense to a suit of defamation. In this case, this video appears to be truthful, even if it was altered; Linda was neither negligent nor reckless in publishing the story. So, I am not sure what the problem is and Linda would probably not be held liable. In addition, Linda would be considered a Journalist, which means she can assert the defense of qualified privilege, which allows her to publish this video. The only cause of action that the lecturer might have is invasion of privacy/publication of private fact. In this case however, he would likely lose because he consented to the video from what I saw, therefore, these facts were not sufficiently private because the video was recorded in broad day light outside.
Also, the lecturer would be considered a public figure in his community (someone who has gained notoriety by thrusting himself into a public light. (a university lecturer would suffice) Therefore, he would have to prove that Linda published this story (video) (assuming it is false) with actual malice and reckless disregard for the truth. As opposed to an ordinary plaintiff who just needs to prove that Linda was Negligent in publishing the story.
That being said, TRUTH IS AN ABSOLUTE DEFENSE!!!! In addition, this is a matter of public concern and Linda was privileged to disclose it!!!!!!!!
If it were found that the video was somehow "manufactured," which I seriously doubt, then Linda would have to assert her qualified privilege. (It is not absolute but on these facts, I would advise Linda to "go on soun" lol.)
I do apologize for the lecture/typo/grammatical errors, it has been a long day!!!
Lawyer Anonymous 4:24,
ReplyDeleteThe video is not hosted on Linda's website she only provided the link, it's hosted by sahara reporters. So I don't see how it can implicate her.
Linda if it bothers you, just add a disclaimer and stress the fact that you are in no way responsible for the video.
Anonymoust at 4:54
ReplyDeleteHow is the alleged professor a public figure as you claim? What are the facts that support your claim that he thrust himself into the "public light" as you call it?
Anonymoust at 7:26,
ReplyDeleteProviding a link to the site is problematic because the SR site labels the man as a sexual harasser, i.e., "SEXUAL HARASSMENT: VICTIMIZED STUDENTS FIGHT BACK", Last I checked this alleged professor has not been proven to be a sexual harasser in a court of law or in another video and therefore until it is proven Linda should have refrained from publishing the material.
Please can all you Anonymous'es' get some kind of user name so we can follow your debate. It's a bit cumbersome scrolling up and down, trying to figure out which 'anonymous' corresponds with which time. Instead of clicking the 'anonymous' tab before you post, click the 'Name/URL' tab above it and type in some name there...you hear?...ehen, good. Go on with the debate. I'm learning new 'tins' here.
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't get involved if I were you because the lecturer is not a kid. If he is innocent, there is no need for image laundering online. Let him get a lawyer that can sue them.
ReplyDeleteDidn't you read how the British Prime Minister, David Cameron put pressure on a female Facebook user to remove a famous 'shrine' or RIP blog post for a killer? Power pass power o...
She refused to remove it on day 1 but by Day 2, it disappeared. Facebook did not remove it but she did.
Both of them are Stupid. If the lecturer could earn upto 100k why didn't he take the dirty girl to an Hotel instead of being Harassed that way.
ReplyDeleteApart from the lecturer,it is every where. How would the girl feel if that was done to the father?
There are better ways to deal with such people. At last na her fellow woman go disgrace her same way cos of another man!Pls we should be careful.
The video clearly, and only, shows forced imprisonment, extortion and intimidation. Was the lecturer smiling? He did so as a defence mechanism. Was he cooperative? He did so because he was outnumbered by a hostile mob. He was held hostage by the lady and her 'film crew' and blackmailed into signing a cheque for N100,000. I am not a lawyer but if she indeed cashed this cheque, has she not collected ransom?
ReplyDeleteLMAO @ Ibo Omoge's comment.
ReplyDeleteHehehehehehehehehe
The video has currently not available on a particular famous site. Why?
