"Comedy is a gift, not a trade" - Basketmouth

"Most of the upcoming comedians who join the industry actually came on because of what they've seen us achieve. Anytime anyone does a business in Nigeria and others notice that it is flourishing, most of the people rush into it. But what these people don't understand is that comedy is not a trade, it is an act, a gift. If you're not gifted, you cannot be a comedian. But most of them come into the industry because they want to be rich and famous and that is what I detest. And at the end of the day, they end up stealing jokes from other comedians. This is a very terrible behaviour because comedians who bite other people's jokes make those who have really worked hard look like fools and they deny them credit for their intellectual property. But we've been trying to figure out a way to deal with the issue as it's a major problem we are facing now." Comedian, Basketmouth, tells City People Magazine
