Strength of a woman! Adaeze yobo opens up about her motherhood struggles

It's inspiring how women can be going through the toughest struggle yet act strong like everything is perfect. Adaeze Igwe-Yobo has shared the story of her struggles as a new mother and it is unbelievable the things she's had to go through.

The former beauty queen and wife of former Nigerian professional footballer, Joseph Yobo, revealed that she suffered difficulties ranging from insufficient breast milk, Postnatal Depression, lethargy, and the pain resulting from Cesarean Section.

She shared a photo of her grinning second son and a tray containing tea and drugs that help mothers produce breast milk. In the caption, she disclosed that while some women have it easy producing breast milk, it was hard for her. She said her youngest child, who is less than 3 months old, is the only child she has breastfed for this long.

With her first son, she had to take a lot of liquid foods, yet could not produce enough breast milk for him. The food made her add weight, the stress to produce enough food for her son made her lethargic, still in all of this, not enough milk was coming and it only compounded her C-section pain. It was so bad that she and her first son cried at some point. She only breastfed him for 3 weeks. With her second son, it was the same and she had to supplement with formula. It's been easier with her daughter though she still has to take Pregnacare to aid milk production.

Below is how she told her story.

Baby no 3 is the only baby i breastfed for this long. Some have it easy and others like me drank 2large bowls of custard, took nursing tea n all and still had only 1-2oz of breastmilk, gained tons of weight and had no energy most of the time, so I gave up early cos the baby and i Cldnt deal with the stress. With my ist son, we both cried cos i was in C-sec pain, had bad PND and baby wasnt getting enough milk. to think i actually planned to breastfeed for 2years, and only did it for 3wks 😩😂 2nd one I swore I wldnt even breastfeed cos of my last experience but once I had him, he latched unto the boobies like a pro so I gave in but the milk was still low at 5weeks, so i had to supplement with formula which was a bad idea cos he fell in love with the milk flow and rejected boobie.😔 However, with "ma piinches" (My princess) *in jaydens voice* it's been pure bliss, no PND, I'm always full of energy even though I don't get as much sleep at night. Anyway, i dont know how long I want to breastfeed for, I'll just go with the flow for now cos I like the way she looks into my eyes while nursing 😩😂👶❤ #momlife #11weekspostpartum #breastfeedingrant 🐄🐄🐄 😹 #mothersareamazing #morningrant 😁 have a great day lovers ❤

  1. Hmm, I had the same struggle as a new mom, the breastmilk was not flowing as I expected. I cried and felt like a failure. I had to consult a lactation specialist and the key things are;
    1. Drink tons of water, she couldn't have stressed this enough. Water is number 1. I started drinking gallons of water lol my breasts became engorged.
    2. Proper positioning of your baby's mouth on your breast, the baby should not be sucking on your nipples but the areola; - this she called proper 'latching'

Also, on my own watching YouTube videos on proper latching helped me out. Actually YouTube helped me out a lot, that was where I learnt to change diapers too.

    Good luck Mama's!

  2. Oh and might I add, breast milk is about demand and supply, the longer you breastfeed, the more your system thinks it will need to produce.
Also try pumping to increase your supply.
Ones your system gets a lot of demand (through baby sucking for a long period of time, or through pumping), the more breastmilk it will produce.

    Fantastic isn't it?

    1. I did everything in the books. Pump, baby sucked for over 6months but still he wasn't getting enough. He was loosing weight i was stressed out. Hospital advised i supplement with formula. In all these couldn't produce more than 2oz a day.

  3. Normal...I had the baby blues....was depressed. I was overwhelmed. I had cs too..the pain was out of this world. I didn't breast feed until about 5 days after, as milk was coming out. Then my baby rejected breast milk at 3 months cos I had to go back to work, so she got used to bottle feeding...the list is long. I wake up 3am, woke my baby 4am...Couldn't give her a proper bath...only a wipe down cos I did the want to miss the staff bus! Dropped her off at creche by 5am! My dear, alot of women go thru much more sef. All we shld thank God for is life and strength.

  10. Had same experience with my first child, after five days breast wasn't forthcoming, had to drink pap, tea. Bitterleaf soup, Palm wine and anything you could think of but my breastmilk was low and my baby was getting pale bcos of hunger(was giving him little water). Omo I had to borrow sense and give my baby formula, who exclusive epp? With my second baby, breastmilk is flowing more than the first but I am not doing exclusive cos it makes me eat like a glutton, am still trying to loose the weight I gained during my first pregnancy so I can't afford to add more weight abeg.
Mom's out there, pls don't be hard on your self, do what works for you and don't copy Mrs A or Mrs b, our bodies are different.

  14. Breastfeeding is best for a baby. However, there could be reasons why a mother may not produce sufficient breast milk. Please don't be hard on yourself. If you try all you can for a month and you see your baby is obviously not getting enough milk, just jejely introduce formula. Don't copy mums shouting "exclusive ". Know what works for you. The worst thing you can do to a baby is to starve him/her. Funny thing is some mums announcing on social media that they exclusively breastfed their babies actually didn't. So don't be deceived. Also, there's no scientific proof that breastfed babies are smarter than formula fed babies so don't feel bad if your body is not producing enough milk.
