FG proposes to expel undergraduates with less than 0.5 CGPA from next academic session

Minister of State for Education, Professor Anthony Onwuka, yesterday disclosed that the Federal government is proposing a new policy that will enable Vice Chancellors of various institutions to expel students with as low as 0.5 CGPA.

Onwuka who disclosed this at the 31st convocation of the University of Port Harcourt, said students with as low as 0.5 CGPA have no business in the University and should no longer be accommodated.

“We must stop to continue housing adventurers, who have no business remaining in the universities beyond the time specified for their studies in the universities. In that wise, it is being proposed that at the end of this academic year, any student with less than 0.5 CGPA should cease to be a student of the university and should be shown the way out. The universities must continue to have people who are serious in what they have come to do. If you have less than 0.5 in your CGPA, you are out. You are out for good so that the space will be left for those who have come to do serious business"he said

  6. I couldn't agree more. University's in our country are full of people who have no business in an academic environment. They should leave and create space for a younger generation that can help achieve the Nigerian dream. Whatever that may be.

    1. Abeg that's not true. In the western countries, there's no concerted effort to make people educated because there are systems in place for people who decide not to go further behind high school unlike here where everybody is forced to be educated cos there are no systems capable of providing for people with little or no education. Education isn't supposed to be compulsory,it should be a choice and it means that whoever decides to get educated should achieve okay grades. Anybody with a cgpa below 0.5 has no interest in getting a university education and should as such be shown the door or the gate as the case may be

  21. Sometimes I wonder if those people in the corridor of power actually has brain at all. Awuka my professor,,, this is What I list expected you say... If a student has 0.5 cgpa,is it the fault of the student or from d failed educational system in the country... Our institutions of learning are failure to the country.. Since u became the minister,,, what effort and steps have you taking to revive all the government owned secondary schools in the country. Private school has taking over the educational environment in the country, it is only the children of the rich that can get quality education.. Awuka prof,,, are you not ashamed that Nigeria doesn't have federal government primary schools in the country. Awuka prof,, there are a lot of problems to takle before you could come to that area you are talking about.. If you throw them out of the school, What provision did u Make for the. Anwuka prof, your generation has failed us.. You even need to be strip of your professorship for that comment.

    1. You need to learn how to type in proper English first. I am sure you fall into the category of the 0.5GPA group based on how poor your grammer is.

  22. To be honest, as much as I hate this government, I see this as a good plan. The parents of such students will spend the money they would have paid as school fees to open a good business (maybe farming) for them. All to help the economy.
