Photos: US Olympic sprinter Tyson Gay's 15-year-old daughter killed in shootout at a restaurant

American Olympic sprinter Tyson Gay’s teenage daughter was killed by stray bullet in an apparent shootout at a restaurant.

Trinity Gay, 15, a rising track star died after being shot in the neck at a restaurant in Kentucky in the early hours of Sunday morning, October 16th. Tyson Gay, who grew up in Lexington told local news site LEX 18:
"She didn’t make it. I’m so confused. She was just here last week for fall break. It’s so crazy. I have no idea what happened."
The runner told reporters he was very close with his daughter, who was following in her dad's footsteps as a rising track star. Police in Lexington, where the fatal shooting happened, said it happened at around 4am 98am.
According to police, a group of men in two cars outside of the Cook Out restaurant began shooting at each other before speeding off.

It is thought Trinity was a bystander who was not in the vehicles, described as a Dodge Charger and a dark coloured sports car with tinted windows, when she was shot. Police say they believe they have found one of the cars that could be involved in this shooting and they are questioning possible suspects.

In a statement police said they are now investigating the early morning homicide.
Trinity ran as an athlete for Lafayette High School, making a name for herself locally with success as a 100m and 200m sprinter.
"She was so innocent, she was so innocent," her mother, Shoshana Boyd, told the Daily News in a tearful interview. "I just want people to stop shooting and realise who they 're hurting. It's just random. They don't understand who they are hurting"
She said her daughter wanted to become a surgeon and also hoped to match the Olympic glory of her father.
"I should never have to bury my own child," Boyd said. "She wanted to be the fastest woman in the world, and they took that away from her"
