Photos: We will rebuild the Niger Delta, President Buhari assures

President Muhammadu Buhari says his administration would rebuild Nigeria, including the Niger Delta region, and asks for patience and understanding from the citizenry.
Receiving a delegation of Niger Delta Dialogue and Contact Group, led by His Royal Highness, King Alfred Diette-Spiff, the Amanyanabo of Twon Brass, Bayelsa State, at State House, Abuja, Thursday, President Buhari pledged that under his watch Nigeria will witness judicious utilization of resources.
"We intend to rebuild this country; so that our children and grand-children will have a good place they can call their own. A lot of damage has been done, so I want you to tell the people to be patient.
"When you get together with other leaders, please pacify the people. We will utilize the resources of Nigeria with integrity and rebuild the country."
The President said the gazette on the Niger Delta amnesty programme by the Umaru Yar'Adua administration is being studied with a view to determining what had been fulfilled, promising that whatever is left would equally be addressed.
"I want to get as much intelligence as possible on the situation in the Niger Delta. I have encouraged law enforcement agencies to contact leaders like you in order to have enough information to deal with the issues once and for all, “the President said.
He sympathized with investors who borrowed lots of money to invest in the Niger Delta region and have not recouped their investments due to insecurity.

He used the occasion of his audience with the Group to reiterate his appeal to those who perpetrate violence to embrace peace and give government a chance.

The leader of the Group, King Alfred Diette-Spiff, said the group was made of peace builders, dedicated to peace and stability in the region.

  5. No my people this is a big lie to take oil, what about the allocation of oil block, 60 percent should b for people from Niger delta and 40 to the rest of the country

    1. Forget Oil Blocks. They are risky. What stops Niger Delta indigenes from setting up private refineries and petrochemicals now? Later they will blame foreigners and FG for not giving them 80% of the licenses.

  9. Too many unfulfilled promises and yet you're still making more fake promises. Your only interest is the oil in the Niger delta, but oil disappointed you and your brothers in the north. Sorry Buhari, oil saw you and went south until after your tenure or your resignation.

  11. D-PinPointer Says: How do you rebuild when there is no blueprint. Despite all the troubles emanating from that region, he has not paid a working visit to get a firsthand information of what is going on. He prefers to sit in Abuja to gather information. All these empty promises are what stagnates a nation. Personally, I think alhaji Buhari is disoriented. He needs to fly out to UK for the next medical appointment.

  18. I believe this man. And from the return of loot by these thieves, we must be blind if we still continue to argue along party lines when even Akpabio who is a main pdp man is secretly visiting Tinubu. They are enemies on the pages of newspapers and blogs. If nothing at all, lets support someone who is at least bringing some people to justice.

It may look partial, but calm down. Obe thief at a time mbok.

  29. Niger Delta don suffer sha. the region is currently leaderless as far as i'm concerned. Call Tinubu any name you like, at least he is recognized as a leader in the south west and has a huge following. we don't have any one like that this side of the Niger!. the ones who should be cultivating followership are licking tinubu's bum-bum upandan, begging for acceptance from Lagos to Kaduna..(Amaechi)

  30. Some people sha: always looking for inroads to be relevant in any administration...isn' t that the oyinbo woman, Judith Asuni who was accused of treason during OBJ abi Yaraduas time and also former member of house of reps, Nkoyo Toyo who lost her last elections to return to the house of reps??????? ha! so they've now found a new calling. na wa oh!!! representing the Niger Delta??? ok oh!
