Legendary Congolese singer Papa Wemba has died. He was 66 years old. The musician whose real name was Jules Shungu Wembadio Pene Kikumba was performing at the the Festival
des musiques urbaines d’Anoumabo (FEMUA) in Abidjan, Cote d’Ivore earlier today, April 24th when he fell in
the middle of his act. He had performed two songs and was performing the third when he suddenly slumped on stage (that's him behind the dancers moments before he slumped).
They rushed him to the hospital but he died before getting there. There had been no report of ill health before now. May his soul rest in peace...Amen. See more photos and video of the incident after the cut

ReplyDeleteIf you at the video, everybody is shocked at his fall, but none of them actually intervened to give him CPR which is vital the minute after a heart attack. Volunteers from the Red Cross were there and did nothing. What a shame! R.I.P Papa Wemba, King of Rumba. You will be missed by your fans all over the world, but your music will keep consoling our soul. A legend never dies!

ReplyDeleteOh no, this is heartwrenching.........I love Papa Wemba so much so that while in camp as a youth corper, my roomie nicked named me Papa Wemba for always singing and doing his dance steps. I'll miss him so much!!! Rest In Peace Papa Wemba......You are a true Legand, I love your songs and music artistry to pieces.....You will never be forgotten.

Africa needs to get more health educated...and why didn't he have his personal physician there...no one knew CPR..and the Crois Rouge never used Defribulator to try n start his heart again??..Africa we need to educate and implement modern day changes to our lacking society. Change our diets that's causing us to lose our people too early with Diabetes, BP, Stroke, ect...
ReplyDeleteMay his soul RIP. What a great lost . But I called this greed.... Cuz at his age couple with health risk problems as a result of ageing,...... He ought not to have been performing while standing.....moreover, it's very sad to have died on stage with dancers almost half naked, when your are goingto see your creator (God). All the same we are 🙏 despite the fact that there's norepentance in the Grave. We love u but God loves you most.h
