Ibinabo Fiberesima opens up about her travails, says she's drained

The mother of three, who is facing five years in prison for the death of a doctor in an accident over 10 years ago, has talked about her travails. Speaking Ibinabo said;
"Since the incident happened, I have learnt how not to trust anybody any more. I put my trust now in the Lord. And this is better explained in the new song I recorded. The music captures my story. Emotionally, I have been drained and to some extent humiliated, even in public…I wasn’t happy that I was involved in that accident. I have said it over and over again that I’m deeply sorry that it ever happened. I don’t know how else to atone for the accident. I started begging my victim’s family from the day the accident happened.
My family attended the funeral rites and service of songs and I even attended the 40 days prayer when I was strong enough to move about. I met with the mother and the wife of the deceased. There’s virtually nothing I didn’t do to plead with the family of the deceased to let me off the hook. I’m still pleading with them as I speak with you right now.” She said this some years ago
“I don’t have a relationship with the family. They banned me from coming to see them. I used to visit the mother, but they warned me to stop coming to their house. So, I can only pray for them and that’s what I did always.”
I have my own health challenges too. I went for a test and they found a growth- a lump in my breasts which I had to remove. So, if we don’t do these tests continuously anything can happen. We usually take our lives for granted. You must continue to go for routine medical examinations. That’s what AGN is all about. We are here to ensure that our members are properly taken care of. We can’t get our money in the bank to pay for our health insurance because they froze the account. I opened the account before the case started.” “We are back on track and everything is beginning to happen again.

  7. Is it not too late for all these the truth is it was an accident but Ibinabo just wanted to be left of the hook it was too obvious dat was wat she was all about being left off the hook and that was that she failed to understand dat u can nevr b left off the hook for a crime like that you will always get to live wit it.if she was not on top speed that doctor would still be alive.its a pity. This recent case is political remember she was a staunch pdp suporter gavalanting with jona taking trips to the villa of course Apc saw all these things now it's pay back time

  9. Only God knows the truth, but there are too many "I's" in your story. "I" did this, "I" did that. This happened to "me." You still don't get it, do you? You drove drunk, drove recklessly, killed a man, subverted the course of justice, and rather than withdraw from public view out of respect for the family of the man you killed, you've been prancing about in a public manner. You are the true definition of a narcissist...

  13. You can easily see the pride all over her words. U are being jailed for recklessness that cost a doctor's life. This is not not family feud. Going to the funeral and prolly feeding the family doesn't erase the fact that u drove carelessly and killed someone in the process and such act is punishable by law.
This is not even considering ur actions at the accident scene.

Selfish BITCH! Those supporting her are the very problem we have with Nigeria- you celebrate mediocrity, selfishness and evil, just because they are attractive. That is the very reason the politicians stole your future dry. Shame on all Ibinabo supporters, shame on Ibinabo-evil selfish bitch!!! People are wicked and mean. She is not the 1st to kill in an accident. Can't they just forgive her. Those saying drunk and reckless una didn't drive the carooo. Judgemental Nigerians. Ibinabo God will save you. Haters everywhere. If she had the powers she would have resurrected the doctor. They ve already made her life a nightmare. 1. Exactly, read the statement the sister made, she said ibinabo didn't show remorse rather she wanted to be let off the hook which is still what I see in this senseless interview. She is advertising her musical career, talking about breast lumps in a bid to use that to escape the sentence and still talking about being let off the hook. I guess they never saw sincerity in your apologies and I dare say they are right. 43. Ibinabo or whatever your name is, you don't have to beg the family of the deceased....it is nothing to do with the family...you committed serious traffic offences, then you should be punished....For the record, your offences could be summarised as follows if you don't know:

    Causing death by dangerous driving
    Dangerous/reckless driving
Perverting the course of public justice
    Drink drive
Driving a motor vehicle on a public road without being in force a policy of
    insurance
It was even doubtful you had a driving licence as at the time of the offence

In the face of all these offences, you are pleading for forgiveness...you are not fair at all....you are just too self-centred and have no respect for the laws...please stop all this your emotions and allow justice to take its course

  54. Why does she feel she should not serve any time at all? There is something extremely wrong with this mentality. Wesley Snipes, Martha Stewart, Leona Hensley, TI, are some of the famous ppl who have had to serve sentences, they completed their sentence and are free today doing as they please. I know she had that last child as leverage to escape prison, this time around it is breast. My dear if the most famous and ten times wealthier can do their time without an issue, then why can't you? Five years is peanuts for killing a man and maiming another, in some countries it would be 15yrs. Stay there pushing the judges, you may get ten years instead of five for wasting the court's time.

Babalawos fooled you to think they locked up the case, you even got guild presidency something you should not have gotten with a criminal case pending. Yes, madam, the juju was so strong even you believed it was wrapped up, then the Angel of Justice in heaven sounded their trumpet and that seal of evil was broken. What we are seeing is the work of the most high God who hears the cries of the widow and the fatherless, also the maimed. No God work madam? who is greater than God?

We heard that one woman driving ( maybe at top speed) in Warri, while trying to check who was calling and thereby take the call, drove off the road, straight into the sidewalk/curb into 4 children coming back from Secondary school. 2 flew up, 2 under the tire. Rushed to the hospital. Eventually, all died. This very week. What plea can she give? Lump in breast? It wasn't an innocent accident. May God and the fear of the law help us to do the right thing always and may God help us stay out of catastrophe.

  59. A pity, really. I want to believe this is in response to the late doctor's relative's write-up. Maybe she is trying to tell us how far she went to show remorse to the family, and not to think that it qualifies for freedom. Why don't those who drink and drive die alone instead of killing other road users and surviving?

  60. I know many of u might not agree with me but I'm a victim of such. I lost my dad through such case and then I was very little, but one thing am so proud of is that my mother learnt to forgive them, I can only plead the families of the deceased to forgive her, I don't know who ibinagbo is nor have I seen her before now the answer is no. Let us all use this lenty period and consider what happens if we loose our life today? Will God use this to hold us guilty not to enter eternity. Considering it as humanity, it could be one of us, let's revise the case if it was ibinagbo that died how will the family feel after 10yrs the case was still on. On the other hand if both wr late who will be jailed for reckless driving. Let's leave this case just as the Lord said ur revenge is for him so that the soul will rest. There is nothing. That happened without God's consent. I am only telling u this cos I've been through the pain and I know how painful it is. Let's us all learn to forgive cos jailing her even for 20yrs cannot bring him back but the knowledge of knowing that somebody died out of her mistake will hurt her for the rest of her life (guilt conscience kills a lot) I am only pleading the deceased family think about it and do that which u feel it's right. Thanks for this opportunity to voice out to the world.

  61. My sincere apologies to the family of the deceased I've been into it and I know how painful it is to say am waiting and he could not tell u am back again. I lost my dad that in such a way, but I will like this family to forgive the driver. Don't see it as if she sent me no one sent me. I don't know her neither do I know both families but the case reminded me of my family so many years ago. Am thankful to my mother for letting them go cos it helped me bearing the pain. Am talking out of experience. if we could understand that there is nothing that happen under this earth that he is not aware of then am lying. If it wasn't time for him to go it won't happen. But everything happens out of God's approval. If we will look at it this way, what if it's ibinagbo that died what happens next? What if both died who will be jailed? What if the deceased was the faulty one and ibinagbo died and he was treated this way how will he fee? U see will will be having a different thinking If it was so. Let's grant the soul rest on earth so he can have rest fully. The most punishment one can ever get is the one u get through your conscience. She might be sent to jail for 40years it won't bring him back but the knowledge of knowing that she has someone else blood stain out of her reckless driving is sth that kill internally and she has to live with it. Let God the best Judge judge it on his own terms. I hope we all learn to forgive just as my mother did.

  62. Ibinabo, let me tell you the truth - Be silent, remorseful, you can never beg enough or pay enough for the loss of a loved one. You cannot win this through social media, paying people or godfathers and godmothers. Those are only temporary measures that create a cycle. You have already experienced how people will disappoint.
Be still and know HE is God! You can only win and make amends on your knees to God. Then God himself will bring you true helpers and minister to the hearts of the family of the diseased. Your begging and sorry may never be enough. God's solution may not be how you want to design it yourself but He is a just God. Only HE can make a way where there is no way.

  70. Many of you have no idea what forgiveness is, forgiveness does not mean you get away without serving your time. Just because I forgive you for setting fire to my house, or stealing my car does not mean you do not go to jail, one has nothing to do with the other. If ppl never pay a price for their deeds how will they learn? Many of you beat your children for the slightest infraction, why not just forgive them and forget about it? You spank them or beat them so they know there is a consequence for their action. It's the same thing in this case, the jail sentence is for Ibinabo and other drunk drivers to know there are consequences for their actions, hope this make sense for those of you with thick skulls.

Whether they forgive her or not.
Madam go and do your jail term.
You can still get alcohol to drink in jail.

  72. HI fellow Nigerians, the case in discussion is between Ibinabo vs. Lagos state govt and not the family. She needs to go to jail to serve has detarent to others. The percentage of reckless driving is on the rise in Nigeria and lagos state in particular. If she doesn't go to jail and face her actions and then repeat the same reckless action we would say the govt has failed us. If the govt has failed us or are still in the business let's applaud them for this one correction of wrong on their part. ON BODY IS ABOVE THE LAW. Ibinabo with your silly press briefing you should have been give 15yrs for dragging the Nigerian judicial system in shame. Didn't your lawyer advise well enough. Just go to jail and let you children emulate humility, good home bringing etc. from you even if you lack any. Career ko profession nii. Non sense somebody.

    1. Shut up and stop judging her. If the deceased family shuts you out what miracle can you perform. Out of panic she must have said those things. If you were Ibinabo what would you have done differently?

  73. So she is the 1st person to kill someone in an accident in Nigeria? Why is her own case different? While others are asked to take over burial expenses and compensation why is hers imprisonment? Those saying reckless and drunk is der an evidence? Those talking about remorse what else would you do differently if you are in Ibinabo"s shoes and the deceased family shuts you out. What will you do if the deceased family are unforgiving and pushed the case to Lagos state government to takeover. Except this family lives abroad cos the normal Nigerian based homes must have forgiven this lady. After 10yrs and they are jubilating over 5 yrs jail term. Una try oooo. I will rejoice with you if the jail term would resurrect the dead. In this case there is no point. Make una forgive ooooooo, forgive ooo oooooo, no one plans for accident to happen. And all these ones shouting for justice including all these gays and lesbians here if the law is brought to your doorstep you won't survive it ooo na 14years but you are here screaming stone her stone her. Wicked Nigerians!

  75. Pls why don't we Base this judgement on the case and leave her private life out. Thanks once again I pleaded yesterday for forgiveness but it seems someone is asking me forgiveness has nothing to do with punishment. Yes I agree but I've one question for u? Wen u mistake and spoil somebody's something and u say "please I am sorry" does ur sorry repair it? And for saying Nigeria judiciary wen did they started taking up due cases and see to the justice? A young lady was gang raped and it was translated she was dating all? A married woman is been maltreated at home they say is a thing of husband and wife. My dear there is an adage that say when they carry another man's coups it looks like log of wood. As I said yesterday I've tested it and I can tell u the taste. They said it's state cos the family wants it to be. Lots of DR'S has died in such a manner where were Government? Leave the justice of Nigeria cos a leopard cannot change its colour. Am not saying what she did is right but she going to serve that jail term will is change the little child id from not been fatherless? If it will then I will reopened my dad case and see if he will come back cos I still need him more than ever. The act ACCIDENT is inevitable, it can can happen to one of the Government officials, then I will know who is going to jail who. Forgiveness is ability to earn peace of mind, body and soul from ur creator try it. And u will feel better. Pls let's not be like the pharises who shouted crucify him, crucify him Without thinking twice.
