Stop marrying many wives- IG advice Police officers

Nigeria's Inspector General of Police, Solomon Arase, has advised police officers against marrying more than one wife and bearing many children they cannot cater for. Arase gave the advice while addressing officers and men of Ekiti State Command, during his visit to the state on Friday morning.
"Stop marrying too many wives. Bear only the number of children you can cater for. Some of you have wives in your commands but when you are transfered, you arrive in your new commands and marry another wife and start a new family there. This is mostly among the men and I think you should stop."he said

  3. Its not just police men. A lot of men who stay apart from their wives are usually prone to having wives in the state they reside...

  12. It seem like being a personal issue but its the truth. This is part of causes them to misbehave, want to get money by all means and the children are left vagabonds.
I hope they will listen and Mr Police IG should make this enlightenment a nationwide one and we do hope this will be a step to making responsible officers as well.

  18. I just taught of this, most of the irresponsibility exhibited by our force men may directly be linked to frustrations from home due to wives and excessive children gotten.

  25. if u are advising them not to marry more than one wife good, but the best way is to provide suitable accommodation for every command for them and their families so, when they are being transfer to other command they can easily move with their family.

  35. He should lay blame where necessary. (1) do you pay relocation fee to your officers to afford them the luxury of moving to another base WITH their family? (2) do you pay them enough such that they can visit their family pending relocation? If anything, have a monthly bus/transit available for the wives of these transferred men of the force, so their wives and kids can come visit monthly. Body no be wood. That said, these police men should learn to tuck in their privates when they are not able to financially take care of their family. Nigeria still allows polygamy; this we cannot impose any laws or requirements on the number of wives they can marry. We however need to make provisions available to support such transfers or relocation so it doesn't divide the household and have cascading consequence such as these.

  37. I think illiteracy is the major cause. Check out the rich folks, they give birth to 2 - 3 kids; the poor? 5, 6, 7 kids! Just so repulsive at times! Common sense should tell you what the IG is advising!
