I read the above captioned story on your blog today and i want to correct the story.
First,
it was not an assassination attempt, is was a case of traffic robbery.
The same news you have carried over and over for months but our present
Governor doesn't seem to have a clue on how to arrest this menace.
My
friend was driving in from Dolphin Estate on Alfred Rewane Road (Former
Kingsway Road), when he got to the traffic light around Golden Gate
Restaurant. There was the usually heavy traffic on the road at that time
(1:30pm)
and he was waiting for the light to turn green. All of a sudden, he
noticed a boy walk up to the car in front of him (a black Toyota Prado)
and he thought it was a beggar. But when the guy got to his car ( A
white coloured Land Rover LR4 and not bullet proof as stated by the
writer), he noticed the guy had a gun.
The
robber wanted his Rolex watch, wallet and phones but luckily for him,
the light turned green and the cars ahead moved so he drove off. It was
in the process of driving off that the robber shot at him. The bullet
pieced the car, missed his torso but went through his hand
(miraculously).
Anyway, to cut story short, he
is presently admitted in a hospital where he underwent a successful
surgery last night to treat his bullet wound on the right hand.
Now
we have continuously read about these street robberies and often times
in places that we don't usually go to and i know people who have
commented that God help them. But with this occurring on Alfred Rewane
at 1:30pm in the afternoon at the peak of Lagos traffic, then you can see the chill it runs up one's spine.
I
hope a rich man ( we call them Big Man here) or a big man's child
doesn't get killed or maimed first before they decide to do something
about all this traffic robberies.
So Linda, that's the whole story.

ReplyDeleteThe traffic robbery incidents in Lagos is becoming sickening, the Lagos state govt should be more proactive in dealing with this situation.
ReplyDelete. ~BONARIO~says so via NOKIA LUMIA
Bonario, i have always respect and alligned with your views/comments (and those of Juliet Iwuno since she came on board in 2015, Aboki, Bonita Bislam and a few anonymous ) over the years, but on this, I beg to differ. Please suggest what the Lagos State government ought to do to be considered proactive in security issues. The current IGP seem not to have a clear cut agenda as to his responsibilities and as such the state CPs equally appear clueless (ah this word again !). Peace!

DeleteWTF!!!! Just yesterday on my way home I was in traffic on the lekki-epe expressway and thought about traffic robbery. I just thought nah its impossible in this part of Lagos. But on Alfred Rewane? Front of Golden Gate restaurant in broad daylight? WTF!!!! And the robber had the audacity to shoot with all the security operatives usually there. WTF!!!!! E be like say na bicycle I go take dey Waka from now on.
ReplyDeleteI HV been robbed around Jakande, was in traffic
DeleteI HV been robbed around Jakande, was in traffic
DeleteA few years ago I was almost robbed atop Falomo bridge barely 10 feet away from a police check point (when they still had them). Thankfully, traffic moved and I was able to zoom off!
DeleteWake up Ambode!!! We didn't have all this mess with Fashola
ReplyDeleteGbam!!!

ReplyDeleteI hav said dis over and over again dat its when dis highway robbery wil happen to any of d children or relatives of our Lagos politicians dat they wil surely do sth urgebntly to curb dis issue if not we should continue to brace up 4d different stories frm Lagos highway robberies.
What did that bastard Fashola do in Lagos apart from screw bitches and steal money
ReplyDeleteIf he had worked, it wont be this bad under Ambode
Fashola should have stopped all this road hawking etc but he is too stupid
Why do Danfo buses still stop indiscriminately on the road
I wont blame Ambode yet because he met things like this
I had a good Laff @ ur comment!
DeleteWe have a lot of cray cray people in Nigeria.....
I hope a rich man ( we call them Big Man here) or a big man's child doesn't get killed or maimed first before they decide to do something about all this traffic robberies. There couldn't have been a better finishing line for this article.

ReplyDeleteHmmmm...help us lord.this world go soon end o...Mrs Tommy
ReplyDeleteOMG, I pray a lasting solution is soon found for this incessant traffic robberies
DeleteLinda, considering the economy we find ourselves, what the writer wrote in his last paragraph will have to happen until, then they will find a lasting solution to this menace. Heavy duty trucks fall almost everyday, what have they done to this ? Mtchewww

ReplyDeletei think wherever traffic is most times thou, officials need to be more ,around there, police, frsc etc.the government needs to do something bout this and quickly.
LINDA PLS NOTICE ME OOOO
You know the funny thing? There are always lastma, yellow fever and npf at that junction but of course when they are truly needed to do their work, they are also nowhere to be found. Instead, they are harassing innocent citizens and running after cars to collect money.
DeleteIf someone can't fashion a solution to prevalent traffic robberies that make commuting a nightmare for lagosians, I wonder why he is the state's number one man.
ReplyDeleteBroad day robbery?
ReplyDeleteLagos police have lost their focus.
Kai.
This armed robbers have no chill sha, on a broad day light..
ReplyDeleteAm very sure they might snatch the car too if the robbers had their way

ReplyDeleteI sincerely hope our Governor reads my comment. I salute the recent purchase of equipment for the security forces in Lagos State, however the equipments are being misused by the Nigerian Police. Let's start from the power bikes mounted by the Police, this equipments are solely used by them to run after and in most cases run down unsuspecting motorist you have violated traffic lights. I am certain that these equipments were not purchased for this narrow purpose. Most times the offending motorist would have to fork out an amount to be released by these men in black. Now to the white patrol cars, carefully embellished with a large American looking logo and signal lights, as beautiful and inspiring as these vehicles look, they are being abused by our police. The sole purpose and I repeat the sole purpose of the vehicles are for running after and apprehending vehicles with covered plate numbers or those with tinted windows. As I had mentioned earlier, I don't support any act that runs contrary to the law, however the sole purpose of the equipments is to make Lagos safe from hoodlums, armed robbers and car jackers. The unfortunate thing about all this that the Nigeria Police have bow been empowered with brand new mobility to harass and oppress the public while the men of the underworld continue to kill, maim and undermine the efforts of the present government.
ReplyDeleteAll said, I employ the government of lagos state to check the exesses of the police men by constant monitoring and encouragement of feedback from Lagosians.
You are absolutely correct. .. what Government gave them can be better described as hustling tool.
DeleteSee me look for the 'Like' button! You've said it all!
DeleteWORD!!!
Deleteagain? so which should we believe
ReplyDelete-D great anonymous now as Vivian Reginalds
Hmmm Gov. Ambode, are u yet to arrive. How long do we still have to wait? Ambo ejooor e ma bo nor. Pardon me shaky yoruba.

ReplyDeleteAJ MAIN BOY...
state of insecurity...angelmakiz@yahoo.com
ReplyDeleteThis one story go cause trouble ooo
ReplyDeleteIt getting out of hand dey shuld do sumtin abt it
ReplyDeleteIt is unfortunate the police in Lagos has failed to leave up to their responsibilities. Ambode has done well to provide the police with proper vehicles, bikes etc but what does the police do in return? To chase innocent citizens in tibred cars..demanding to see tint permit.. Last month I has just come back from a month travel. .picked my dusty car from my office cat park and was heading home when at Jakande roundabout I was doubled crossed by the police in their new white flashy car brandishing their guns out I should stop immediately. ..i was scared...i couldn't figure out what was happening..I stopped and they demanded for my tint permit which I showed them...After which they begged for me to fuel their car...Fast forward 2 weeks later I was going home by 9pm...observed another set of police officers in their new flashy car driving slowly on d service lane..as soon as drove past I heard the sirens come on and noticed I was being chased....All cos I was driving a tinted car...but this time I didn't bother to slow down...It is time the police commissooner in lagos state be removed as him self and his boys are clueless on how to handle the security situation in the state.
ReplyDeleteWhich kind of trouble is this, you don't have money u r in trouble u get money u r not safe. Chei
ReplyDeleteLagos is getting scarier with each pass day...
ReplyDeletewhy is it that Nigerians do not care anymore for each other. Does it mean that no other driver saw it? It is hard times these traffic robber are thought some hard lessons...the driver behind can hit him very hard or better still, if everyone alight, they will be afraid to attack...I think I will station one of my dogs there soon....bros, sorry, wish u quick recovery! there was a country
ReplyDeleteoK, my opinion. it was an assassination attempt not robbery. some assassination, hide behind robbery so dat d true person behind it, is hidden in d dark.
ReplyDeleteREASON. d location- we all know ikoyi houses several dignitaries, embassies, banks and multi national corporations thereby making it one of the safest place in Lagos.
2nd is d time. which robber will risk his life,to rob u of ur watch by 1.30pm. except he plans on committing suicide.
3rdly. most traffic robbers dont rob wit gun, but if dey do most of der guns dont have bullet.
Lastly, d robber shot to kill at his victim after he failed, knowing daT d shot might attract police and oda security agents to d scene.
While, wat do i know, i might still b wrong, am just a wonderer.
...d great wonderer
I wish him quick recovery
ReplyDelete1pm afternoon.... hmmmmmm this boys get mind oooh... the state government and security agencies should do something about this.

Scarey news everyday about Nigeria, that's why I always get scared anytime I want to come to nigeria, nowhere in that country is safe, if arm rubbers no attack you, roads are no safe, witches de one corner de watch you, kidnaps go de somewhere de look too, oh my God which way forward naija!!!
ReplyDeleteGosh this is getting out of hands, something must be done about this robbery attack
ReplyDeleteFirst of all, pls accept my sympathy and I hope he gets better soon. This goes to show that something must be done to improve security in this country. Sir, the last statement u made is very wrong. Is it only the ''big men'' in this country that deserves security of lives nd property? From what u just said, I see u don't care for the poor in d society, u only care for the rich like u. It's very unfortunate. I think it's good dis is happening to the so called ''big man'' so dat u see wat d poor r passing thru. May God save us in this country from selfish people.

ReplyDeleteDis is astonishing broad day light oh mhen someone has 2 be careful, where are d police on check point and traffic light post or they are with partner with all dis robbers? Linda take note
ReplyDeleteHmmmm! Chukwu napu ekwensu ike
ReplyDeleteThe LASG should clear chase away all the beggars and boys pretending to clean windscreens from the roads including all junctions in Victoria Island and Ikoyi. Some of these boys are in their late 20's and 30's and they force themselves on car owners who are not on alert. It is clear that the little change they receive from car owners cannot sustain them. These are potential criminals.
ReplyDelete
