  22. 1985 and 2015  What is the difference
My country and different ways people are denied their freedom of speech; back in 1985 it was a decree “but in 2015 its a bill which the senate are been used as a tool to deny the people freedom of speech......

The APC led Administration has failed us the people of this great Nation. A government that has lost focus on the objective of the day, A government that promised us CHANGE which is leading us into dictatorship. A government that fear being criticized by her people, A government that says he can’t pay #18,000 minimum wages to her workers but can impose a fine of two million and four million naira on her citizens, A government that deliberated passing a Bill that successfully passed the second reading on the floor of the house. Abeg my country people which way oooooooooooo ...................

A Bill for an Act to prohibit frivolous petitions and other matters connected therewith sponsored by a Northerner illiterate senator Ibn Na Allah, APC, Kebbi, south. A bill that the main objective is to oppress the good people of Nigeria.

In 1984 it was Decree 4 of 1984 section, subsection (i), (ii), and (iii) of the law the most formidable section provided that “ Any person who publishes in any form, whether written or otherwise, any message rumor, report or statement which is false in any material particular or which brings or is calculated to bring the federal military Government or the Government of a state or public officer to ridicule or disrepute, shall be guilty of an offence under this Degree

In 2015 it is “ Where any person in order to circumvent this law makes any allegation and or publish any statement, petition in any paper, radio, or any medium of whatever description, with malicious intent to discredit or set the public against any person or group of persons, institution of government, he shall be guilty of an offence and upon conviction, shall be liable to an imprisonment term of two years or a fine of #4,000.000’

On social media “where any person through text messages, tweet, WhatsApp or through any social media post any abusive statement knowing some to be false with intent to set the public against any person and group of persons, and institution of government or such other bodies established by the law shall be guilty of any offence and upon conviction shall be liable to an imprisonment for two years or a fine of #2,000,000 or both.

Please my main question to this APC led Government is when you signed this bill into Law, what is going to happen to the freedom of information Bill signed into Law two years ago.
To me this is just a clear sign that the government of the day has lost focus on the main objectives of Nigeria and only thinking of retaining power come 2019. A government that wants to impose on us an inconsequential bill just because of power, when the senate cant think of passing a bill on child marriage,A bill on birth control in the Northern part of Nigeria, A bill on the state of Refinery in the country in country, A bill on the state of Unemployment in the country, A bill on Inflation, A bill on the state of security in the country and A bill on the on life sentence to people that steal the country resources. They are busy passing a bill on oppress our freedom of speech.

On my own part nobody can take my freedom of speech and information from me and am going to continue criticizing the APC led administration if things are not working out. If na jail term me I ready or if na #4,000,000 or #2,000,000 I ready nobody fit shut me up”

Long live Nigeria and God Bless Nigeria.........

  34. Linda I believe this is the opportunity for your platform to seaze the moment and stop the usurper of the masses right. I will urge you to explore the possibility of putting a consortium together to take the particular Senate committee to court and obtaining an injunction to stop the reading of the bill. A constitutional lawyer will tell you it is possible. Afterall oga patapata is using the courts to save his name and will do any thing including using the courts to save his exhausted high office.

  70. Nigerians making much ado about nothing new. The crimes of criminal libel and criminal defamation have long been entrenched in Nigeria's statute books, as separate and distinct from civil libel and civil defamation. The difference? If anybody makes a false accusation of a criminal offence, that in itself is justiciable as criminal libel or criminal defamation. Checks and balances.
