OAU cancels automatic employment for First Class graduates

According to the Vice-Chancellor of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Bamitale Omole, the university can no longer give automatic jobs to First Class graduating students in line with its tradition. This is because of the economic down turn, which has affected the university’s finances.

According to Premium Times, there were mixed reactions on the decision of the university to stop the automatic employment scheme. While some students saw it as unfair and inconsistent, others supported the school’s decision. Some argued that 'it was an error to think that only a First Class graduate could better impact the needed academic knowledge.'

  6. I can argue for or against this decision, but I'm sure the University authority in its wisdom knows best.

  25. It's difficult to sustain bc most southwestern universities produce an amazing number(144,45,77, etc) of first class students. However b the case, ur BGS deserves an automatic employment.

  27. They should not stop cos is a form of encouragement to the first class students & this will make others to study harder.
