Buhari speaks on why he can't reveal names of govt officials returning loots

President Buhari says any attempt to reveal the names of former government officials that are returning looted funds may jeopardize others from returning their loots. Buhari stated this while delivering his keynote address at the Osigwe Anyiam-Osigwe lecture in Abuja today December 11th. He said CBN will reveal the names of the former government officials in due course

“As I stated recently, a good number of people who abused their positions are voluntarily returning the illicit funds. I have heard it said that we should disclose the names of the people, and the amount returned. Yes, in due course, the Central Bank of Nigeria will make information available to the public on the surrendered funds, but I must remark that it is yet early days, and any disclosure now may jeopardize the possibility of bigger recoveries. But we owe Nigerians adequate information, and it shall come in due course. It is part of the collective effort to change our land from the bastion of corruption it currently is, to a place of probity and transparency.”he said

  11. Story for ur hausa gods.is this what u said when campaigning?the records are there so why do u need them to return the loot and escape punishment.I guess we can scratch "buhari the punisher" from ur resume.so now its all about returning loot peacefully.they returned loot to cbn and finance minister came to deny it self after u said it.u guys are joking. So this must mean since others won't come out cause they don't want to be named this must mean that u have struck a deal not to name anyone right???so we will never get names.and later u will start pointing to people who will come out and deny it.Just admit the truth u aboki.u thought presidency was easy and ran ur mouth.now u know the difference between democracy and military ghosts are now returning money.lol.....why should money loving politicians return money when u are yet to even jail one person..get out sir,FAST!!!!! ............linda if u like don't post this one too.that's how u run ur blog.nothing in this country is done right.

  22. Linda can you please send this to Dear mr president that we are happy to hear that our lost funds are found through CBN this is not only what we wanted, we also want to know how much are being recovered and how it were spent.
Recovering funds is not important but how does the recovery funds being used? This is transparency as Mr President said.
More over I shall be pleased if government could let some of these people being tired in the court to serve as deterrent to others as I can tell the public that no one among the present members of the ruling party are innocent.

    1. It takes a little above common sense to know Buhari is an island trying to solve the problems of th country, u guys should please borrow some sense to assist this man in this fight against corruption either against PDP people or his own apc guys instead of abusing and insulting him, is it ever possible to win an election all by itself on the platform of nobody, please you people should think we'll before turning this Linda blog into Buhari haters blog

  44. I don't get it, how can the revelation of names jeopardize further recoveries? That, to me, is not feasible. I'll rather say that the opposite will be the case when names are revealed. Others will be encouraged by the fact that known and influential individuals have started returning their loots and will do same. This postulation is very simple and logical. Buhari may be up to no good with this kind of illogical excuse.

  71. Assume a fat cat looted about 12bn dollars from the public treasury, who determines how much of that loot is to be returned to the CBN? Is it the corruption czar or the thief that makes sych determination? Is the amount based on a sliding scale or what? Why is all of this process in secret and not open to public scrutiny esp since it is our common patrimony that has been violated? Exposing the names and actual amounts of recovered loot will serve as an indicator of the good work PMB is doing, as well as, uncover many more illicit wealth in the land and thereby, its recovery. #goodcausetospeakup
