Late Tunde Idiagbon's N30million trapped in Savannah Bank

According to a report by The Nation, about N30million savings of late Gen. Tunde Idiagbon, who died in 1999 and who was deputy to General Muhammadu Buhari when he served as military head of state between January 1, 1984 and August 1985, is still trapped in the defunct Savannah Bank many years after the bank folded up and the family say all attempt to get the cash for 13 years now, have failed. Read full report after the cut...

Culled from The Nation Newspaper

It is understood that the family only got N10million as compensation from the Kwara State Government for the deceased’s farmland at Malete which was worth N100million.
The Idiagbon family, it was gathered, had intimated former President Goodluck Jonathan of their predicament in a letter to him towards the end of his tenure.
The family which is said to have been left stranded on the strength of the unavailability of the funds is now seeking justice to get its trapped funds from the owners of Savannah Bank.
A highly-placed source said: “The family wrote ex-President Jonathan on the trapped funds. The records are there in the presidency. As it is now, there is no hope of getting the N30million for the family unless there is an intervention by the presidency.
“This Nigerian served his country diligently and his life-savings should not be allowed to be lost like that. I think the intervention will also enable the presidency to look into the case of other depositors of Savannah Bank.
“Another issue which came up in the letter had to do with payment of N10million compensation to the family by the Kwara State Government for Idiagbon’s farmland in Malete which the family said was worth N100million.
“The family is however not joining issues with the state government other than to set the records straight and put all issues in perspective. Ordinarily, this is a family that should not suffer because its patriarch did not embezzle public funds.”
It was unclear if Idiagbon’s final entitlements were paid by the military regime of ex-President Ibrahim Babangida, but the family is after redress for the N30million trapped in Savannah Bank.
The operating license of Savannah Bank was revoked in February 2002 by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

    1. @anonymous 10:03 AM this is the dumbest comment i have seen in a long time. The man had a very large farm in Ilorin that gives him millions of Naira. It was a family business and everybody in Ilorin knows this. He was rich even before he became Buhari's second in command. So dont open your stupid wide mouth and talk senselessly of things things that you dont know about. It is illiteracy and poverty that is worrying you people in this country that makes you think like fools.

    4. Anon 10.03 you are right. Where did he get the money to acquire stuff like that. We need to be more open in stuff so people can ask questions. In canada teachers were using money to do easter egg hunt N birthday gift cards N they may be sack. We are so used to corruption we brush it under the carpet. A soldier worth this much?! Can we stop using sentiments

      Delete
    5. @Anonymous 3:16 PM, anonymous 11:29 AM is very correct. I live in Ilorin and i know about the family business. Have u thought of this? If actually he stole the money, do u think the family will come out boldly to demand for the money? If EFCC ask them to account for the money and they are able to account for where and where the money is coming from, then that's it. Dont also forget that if you put N1m in an interest yeilding account by then, the money would have reached N10m in the bank by now or before the bank shut down. So there is nothing like sentiments here and i'll advise you not to argue blindly because u dont know the modalities of the money. You dont know if it was in an investment account that would have yeilded interest before the bank shut down.

    1. @anonymous 10:09 AM why are you trying to cover up for Jonathan and blame Buhari that has just stayed only 6 months in government? Why are u trying to turn this into a political battle. Buhari and Idiagbon were friends and will forever remain friends. It is not your business whether he visits Idiagbon's family or not. And to the shame of the devil, Buhai never fell out with Idiagbon. I know that it is PDP plan for him to fall out with his good friends but your plans have failed in Jesus Name. Senseless fool.

However if buhari was close with them six months is a long time to have fixed this u fools.ohhhh it was brought to buharis knowledge via a gossip and other media outlet?u are a moron.why can't idiagbons wife have called him if they were chummy.she contacted jona.why isn't she contacting buhari instead they are going public.....thanks for proving my point and ur stupidity.they contacted jona but for six months made no contact with buhari nor did the statement say they are planning to do so............linda please post this one ohhhh.btw I'd rather be in even satans party and maintain my God given reasoning.than join apc and be an ass licker like u stupid anon

    5. She wrote a letter to Jonathan which he didnt respond to. PDP emptied the treasury. How do u expect Buhari to pay immediately. This is a democratic government and not a dictatorship govt. Before they can pay that money, it needs to pass through a process. Buhari cannot take the decision on his own. He cannot just say they should bring the money from Savannah bank without going through a process and through senate. If he does that, it is you stupid PDP touts that will run to this same blog and write nonsense that Buhari is being partial by paying only Idiagon's money without paying others. PDP wailing bastards get off my back and let Buhari be. Fools

  27. He did not serve Nigeria but he and his boss took power from Shagari by force. He was a product of a Coup.

How much was his salary that he had a farm worth 100m and his boss had to borrow money to buy APC form but later declared billions with CCB? What is with all these former leaders and farm, Obj -farm, Buhari-farm, Idiagbon-farm, Atiku-farm, Namadi-farm, even Jonathan has a farm? Gowon too? Something is fishy because i know Osibanjo will soon own a farm. Linda something is fishy please investigate😉😉😉.

On the other hand Bubu should just pay them 30m from the TSA profit he made. 30m out of 25b? Is not too much so we can close out on this matter once and for all. IMHO

All these past leaders owning farms are leading by example by encouraging agriculture. It is because we import a lot that dollar rate has gone up in Nigeria. We import a lot of foodstuff that can be produced here. Imagin Nigeria importing ordinary egg. So there is nothing wrong with them owning farms. At least they didnt steal the farms.
