‘You are yet to publicly declare your assets’ PDP tells Buhari, Osinbajo

Read their press statement below...
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) describes as “a deceptive window-dressing to hoodwink unsuspecting Nigerians” the release, by an aide of the President, of a mere list of some belongings of President Muhammadu Buhari and his Vice, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, in place of the pledge made to Nigerians by Mr. President as candidate of the APC on March 18, 2015, at exactly 5 pm.
The party recalled that the President in his own words had stated to Nigerians that, “I pledge to publicly declare my assets and liability and also encourage my political appointees to publicly declare their assets and liability.”

The PDP however, observed that President Buhari and his vice failed to produce copies of their declarations, detailing the exact nature and value of respective assets.

PDP National Publicity Secretary, Chief Olisa Metuh, in a statement on Friday said “the release of a mere list of belongings falls short of credibility, transparency and anti-corruption standards as well as exposes the proclivity of the present administration for deception.”

“We have noted the release of a flimsy list of belongings of President Muhammadu Buhari and Vice President Yemi Osinbajo by the Presidency, who want such to pass as the public declaration of assets as pledged by the President.

“Nigerians are not deceived by this poor attempt at window-dressing designed by the Presidency to hoodwink the unsuspecting populace in a desperate bid to shore up its diminished image.

“We ask, is the resort to a mere list, instead of true copies of the declaration not a ploy to give the Presidency a window for denial in consonance with their widely observed inclination for flip flopping, backtracking and brazen denials of their statements and actions?

“All we want is credibility, integrity and sincerity of purpose. We are not questioning how a President, who by December last year, declared that he had only N1 million in his account, could suddenly now list N30 million in the same bank account by May 29, and after an expensive campaign; we are not yet demanding the public declaration of his assets in his wife’s name.

“We are not even applauding the multiplication of his cows from 150 to 250 in a space of three months, arising from his dual and conflicting pronouncements on this issue
“What the PDP and discerning Nigerians demand is for Mr. President to always stand by his words and pledge.
“Mr. President, this is a mere list of your belongings and not public declaration of assets in fulfillment of your covenant with Nigerians”
Signed:
Chief Olisa Metuh

    1. Most times when we walk into big malls, boutiques, supermarkets, we never question their prices. We pay exactly what we see on the price tags and even hand out tips to the staff.
But the moment we are out of these shops and want to buy banana, our bargaining game gets off to the roof. Poor widow with 12 hungry children at home tells you banana is N100. She even takes out her time to explain how difficult it was for her to even buy it, how the economy is so tough.
But we insist that if it's not N50, we are not paying. Some of us even step back into our cars and make to drive away. But because 'half bread is better chin chin', this woman is forced to call you back and sell to you at little or no gain. In her heart, she cries, she's worried about how she'll survive with her children. She silently reassures herself that 'It's well.
God will definitely provide.'' While you happily chop the luscious banana. Take some seconds out and think about this, guys. Please don't bargain hard with small vendors like this. They do business not to buy designer bags, Gucci shoes but to LIVE and EAT!

  40. Good evening Sir,

I hope this message gets to you, and that it does so in time as I still believe there is room for redirection in your strides towards being a robust opposition voice.

Firstly, I want to say that your name is fast becoming associated with so many jokes that I wonder whose side you are playing on, could it be that you are intentionally doing this to further bring down the PDP? Or do you genuinely believe in your heart that this is the way an opposition party should be run?

In recent times, you have been called many names, with the most used being "wailing wailer". Are you aware of this? Or does your disconnection from reality know no bounds? I do believe, again, that you are better than what is being portrayed today. For goodness sakes, you did not achieve the level you are today by not being intelligent; unless I am complete wrong. Pls prove me wrong.

The aim of my write up today is to advise you to take it easy on your rants. It seems everyday, you seek what Buhari has done or has not done and then you chose the exact opposite and castigate him with that. I don't want to give examples as I'm sure anyone who can read or have a discussion in Nigeria knows what I mean. May I remind you that it is loose and unguarded statements such as these you make today that causes the PDP the last presidential elections. Need I remind you that many would have voted for PDP or at least believed in your party had the likes of Doyin, Femi Kayode, and lastly Madam Patience just kept their mouths shut and not come up with baseless accusations against Buhari and the APC? Have you not learnt anything from your very recent defeat?

In any sport or war, he who loses goes back to study the tactic of the person who won so that when next they meet, he can perform better. Isn't it time you studied the tactic Buhari has used to obliterate you, and modify your attacks to better match his? Through out all the years Buhari contested and lost elections against your party, no one heard him making any false or baseless accusations on a daily basis against the PDP, all he did was put his facts right on areas you have indeed failed, so when the next election comes, when it matters most, he would present it to the electorate and convince them that he is a better candidate. Don't you see that he is a man that speaks little, and speaks only when it matters. Despite all the jargons you have spewed about him in the past months, have you not noticed that he has not even given you the honor as to respond to you?

I can go on and on about this, but because I believe you have got my point I will stop here. All I ask is, give Buhari the opportunity to try and when he starts failing, I mean really failing, then you can, with facts and figures come after him in a very calculated and constructive manner. Then your voice will be that of wisdom.

Secondly, we will not call you a weakling if you decide to keep quiet and watch what Buhari is doing to see what he intends to achieve. I do believe 3months is too short a time for you to judge the man. PDP held sway for 16years, and in all those years look at where Nigeria is, we cannot even treat a simple concussion for a high level politician who claims to have built a world class hospital in the country. Instead for a simple injury, which is not life threatening, he is flown abroad. Does that not speak volumes of what our great country has been reduced to.
Pls give Buhari and his team sufficient time to let us know where they intend to take us to, after about 2yrs of ruling, then you can speak up and give a report , so for the next 2yrs, he will try to address the issues you have raised, and where he fails, we, the electorate will vote him out as we did the PDP, and give someone else a chance.

In the end, all that matters is our great country Nigeria and not the PDP or APC or any other party. If he fails, we all fail, so best we offer support and give him a chance to succeed.

    A word is enough....

    Thank you.
    Yours sincerely,
    Craig Motoman

  44. Why all the hating here. THE PDP RAISED A VALID ISSUE. We are a democracy and there is a process for declaration of assets. This process was not complied with, simple. The public needs to see the form filled at the CCB just like Yar Adua showed us. The PDP is an opposition party and its healthy for democracy what they are raising. This winner takes all mentality in Nigeria is annoying. Even the commenters here don't know the difference. Ignorance is a disease. The presidents statements before and after elections are not consistent. This raises issues for determination. Before the elections, he said he did not own a house in Abuja, but now he has a house in Abuja. Why did he not correct the media and campaigners who were peddling this staple for a gullible populace? Many other things that could be questioned. What about the assets of his wife (wives)?

What they have presented as asset declaration is a sham to be believed by only fools and horses. If you want to properly declare your assets, you state the addresses and value of the houses you own, the quantity and value of shares you own in companies, the types and values of cars you own etc.
The law only requires them to do the usual code of conduct nonsense but if they pledge to take it a step further, it should be done properly and not attempt to take us for a ride. What impunity!

  65. PDP is fast evolving into a formidable opposition and that is very HEALTHY for our democracy. This is a very OBJECTIVE and CRITICL insight into the politics and intrigues of asset declaration'. PDP has raised very KEY questions that cannot be ignored. Fighting corruption is not a pepper soup affair.

  68. Ple keep GEJ out of this, Buhari promided to declare his asset publicly and GEJ did not. If a father promise to buy a car for his son after graduation and another did not, it is expected that such a father is bound by his promise while the other is not. Public Asset declaration is becoming an issue because Buhari made the promise

  93. Metuh does not have any moral, spiritual and even social right to issue a comment on this matter. He should look back just a few years and tell us how the PDP led by example most especially during their tenure. He must not poke his nose into everything the presidency does. By the way, if he wants to challenge it,he should wait till the verification is over then he can run his mouth if he finds any discrepancies

    ReplyDelete
  94. I so much love what's happening in our polity, the check and balancing will really make APC work effectively just to prove PDP wrong. But still those are not buhari's real assets!

    ReplyDelete
  95. Metuh is right. What is the value of the shares in various companies that the VP has? They should photocopy the signed declarations and publish them like Yar'adua. And I really hate it when some people always point to GEJ as a point of same level comparison. PMB is supposed to be BETTER than Jonathan. If he is the same or only slightly better, is that really what we voted and wanted?

    ReplyDelete
  107. What's the fuss about? To who's advantage is it for the presidency to under-value it assets? When they leave office we will compare their worth then to now. With what Buhari as declared He's telling us that He cannot in four years tell you that He's worth 200million unless he has stolen it. Unlike when people will declare properties that does not exist because they want to steal the country.

    ReplyDelete
  108. Do not say things you do not mean, Buhari we need documents that's all, ur assets have surprisingly made you a rich man, I rem u said you're a poor man with no money to run for elections. Some stage managed people were donation to your campaign.

    ReplyDelete
  118. What's wrong with you people telling Metuh to shut up, do you people have short term memories? Have you forgotten PMB said he didn't have money to purchase the presidential form? Have you forgotten the student that donated 10,000naira to his campaign? He won the election with lies and that's how pdp started also. Open your eyes, you voted for him but that doesn't mean you should support both the wrong things he does. Better be wise.

  119. Buhari's Asset Declaration is Fraudulently Vague

    By Barrister Kayode Ajulo

The alleged asset declaration by President Mohammadu Buhari and his Vice Prof. Yemi Osinbajo as presented by his media aide is apparently fraudulent not only to hoodwink Nigerians but to further use same to cover serial violations of their covenant with Nigerians. For clarity, integrity is doing the right thing, even when no one is watching.

Asset declaration must be done in prescribed form with particulars to ensure clarity and certainty, what is declared is vague, in bad faith and totally unacceptable.

Particulars and full description of the asset has to be given for proper identification and verification.

It is also incomplete as the spouses of the two politicians did not declare theirs with their husbands, it is the law that where any spouse of the declarant is not a civil servant/public servant such spouse should make the declaration with the better half.

Buhari team should go one step further by making their assets truly public with sincerity of purpose; and it is pretty much simple.

Late President Umaru Yaradua once publicly declared his asset in prescribed form and same was published to the satisfaction of all. President Buhari and company should take a cue from the late President.

Doing this, President Buhari would at least have fulfilled one of his campaign promises in a most decent and honest manner.

Nigerians want to trust their leaders, the trust must be earned, they should have nothing to hide and I have nothing personal against them save that we should ensure that our word is our bond and giving no room for second-guessing.

When it comes to transparency, President Buhari should not be ordinary; these are extraordinary times in Nigeria.

The very first job of a leader is to inspire trust. Trust is the single most essential element to our ability to deliver extraordinary results in an enduring way. Trust is integral to building high-performance, good and excellent governance because it enables a nation to work as it should; it’s the first defense against dysfunction and the first step towards delivering better outcomes.

As we endeavor to improve on our leadership qualities, we are inspired by the thought leadership of others who also revere building trust as a critical mission.

    God bless Nigeria.
