Photo: Little girl dies after hand amputation resulting from untreated clot

According to Saudi newspaper report, Sakina Ali Al Muhanna died on Sunday, August 9, after doctors amputated part of her hand which suffered from a clot due to needle mishandling by a medical team treating her in Saudi Arabia. She was admitted to hospital in the eastern province of Qateef with lung illness and doctors tried to give her an intravenous injection.
“After several abortive attempts to fix the needle, the child suffered from a clot in her hand,” Sabq Daily said.
It is alleged that doctors failed to treat the clot and the child was admitted to the intensive care unit for nearly three weeks before she was sent for treatment in Egypt. Doctors in Egypt decided to amputate part of her hand before sending her back home in Saudi Arabia, where she was admitted to hospital again after her condition deteriorated.Sakina died in hospital on Sunday night.

The medical team which treated her are expected to be prosecuted by the Health Authorities.

  21. Just imagine the pain she was subjected to yet all ended in vain. So sad. RIP dear one. Dunno what to say to the medical team for I assume they did not expect it to turn out this way. We could just be a bit more careful when handling fellow humans

  22. Negligence and quackery has also led to the untimely demise of many innocent Nigerians, but the medical practitioners here cover their ineptitude with medical jargons and even end up making patient relatives feel guilty for whatever went wrong. When will Nigeria get better?

    RIP little angel
