PDP must reform lest it dies - Doyin Okupe

In an article published on his Facebook wall this afternoon, former presidential spokesperson to former president Jonathan, Doyin Okupe called on PDP to quickly carry out necessary reforms within the party lest it dies. Full text of his article after the cut....

"It was a great news to hear the formation of a body to drive the mobilisation of members of the pdp under the distinguished leadership of High Chief Dokpesi.

I personally felt good that at last some people were thinking of the future of the party. However I sincerely do not think mobilization is the immediate thing the Pdp needs now. The party has suffered very serious bashing if not bastardization from the sustained avalanche of assaults from the gigantic propaganda machinery of the now ruling party the APC. The credibility of the party as a veritable political alternative to the APC has been nearly irreparably damaged.

Some of the recent disclosures and more that may come up from the impending probes will further damage the national acceptability of the party. At the end of the day the APC may not meet up the expectations of Nigerians or may in fact fail out rightly over time but the pdp as it is presently constituted will not be an acceptable alternative to majority of Nigerians now or in future. The APC and the PDP has become two sides of the same coin.  No clear philosophy. No ideology or central motivating theme. No clear policy objectives. No true leadership. No defining party character or style. Only contestants, aspirants and office seekers
No party discipline, pedigree or ethics.

The truth is that some people put together a strong coalition to wrestle power from the military. That coalition gave birth to pdp which held the power for 16years until some other people put up another coalition for the sole purpose of wrestling power from pdp. This they successfully did in march 2015. The time has come for the pdp, if it must remain politically relevant, to total overhaul and REFORM itself, engage Nigerians in a new coalition for the sole purpose of putting our dear country on the true path to the true, real and the enduring change that will once and for all establish us as a major global player. Not pretenders that we presently are.  The PDP must reform lest it dies, God forbids, a painful and insidious death.

    1. No healthy democracy thrives in the absence of a viable opposition. PDP has to checkmate APC policies.

If APC knows the people have an alternative in PDP they will strive to fulfill and surpass their campaign promises otherwise, Nigerians will be shortchanged.

Nigerians will ultimately benefit from a reformed PDP.

Be objective unless you are one of the hired lots.

  20. To be honest, this is o e of the truest and most honest statement ever made by any meaning Nigerian politician in the highest level....

The brutal truth is very bitter, but he has chosen to face it. Hopefully if his counterparts in the PDP caucus can see the reality in front of them, things can spring up positively for the defeated party.

From an Anti-pdp Nigerian like myself All I see here is the undiluted truth.

  30. Well Said Oga Doyin.....fisr time u will b makin small sense sir. We still need the PDP as an opposition party lest APC and the bad eggs in the party will just have a field day looting this country just like u guys did for 16yrs. PDP and its bunch of thieves who call themselves politician had their 10 fingers in the cookie jar. If not for Gods intervention this country would have been grounded. Even at that i still believe both parties are 2 sides of a coin. Atimes i used to wonder after Buhari...what happens next????

  32. Or Doyin you don't even know that they have buried PDP Since? PDP is dead for ever in Nigeria. We are seeing change of good leadership. A visionary leader is doing magic to reform our mind and economy. Discipline in our dealings. O Nigeria is change changing for better. Let me tell you very soon the light trains that you sometimes back said if not good for Nigerias will be History.
