Jonathan former aides, Abati, Adegbe, Obua, others stripped of passports

According to a report by Vanguard, about 12 of former president Jonathan's former aides, including presidential spokesperson, Reuben Abati, Aide-de-Camp, Col. Ojogbane Adegbe and  Chief Security Officer, Gordon Obua, have been stripped of their official/presidential passports.
A competent source told Saturday Vanguard that the decision to withdraw the official passports of the former aides of Dr Jonathan was to prevent misuse and conflict with new aides and officials of President Buhari, who assumed duties on May 29. It could not be established last night whether the affected officials were ordered by the Presidency to surrender the passports or whether they did so voluntarily. But Saturday Vanguard learned that the affected former aides of Jonathan had already returned the passports to the Presidential Villa preparatory to being handed over to the Nigeria Immigration Service, NIS.
Another source hinted that the withdrawal of the former president’s henchmen’s travel documents was to prevent some of them who have some issues to explain to the new administration from leaving the country and being given preferential treatment at their destinations.
“Don’t forget that some of these officials may be needed here to answer some questions relating to their tenure,” the source said.
However, the Nigerian Immigration Service said last night that there was no ill-motive in withdrawing the official passports of government officials who had completed their assignments. NIS Public Relations Officer, Mr. Joachim Obua, explained that it was normal for officials of government to surrender their official passports at the end of their tenure.
“It is important for the position to be made clear that official passports are not the property of anyone holding it. Once you complete your assignment you have to return it to the NIS,” he explained.

  7. Please people should use their heads.
    .
You are mandated to return all documents belonging to your employer (in this instance, the government) when you complete your assignment. If you leave your job, except otherwise stated in your letter of employment, you are required to submit your identity cards,un used call cards, cars, house, diplomatic passports etc.

The action isn't out of order.

Enough of all these sentiments. Return the passport your services are over. If you pay for a trip to America, and refused to come down from the plane after two months you arrived, they will arrest you. Return your passport so it can be issued to the ones serving now. Please Nigerians grow up

  14. Its their diplomatic pasports linda not their normal passports. Since the governement is over it needs to be returned back to the government same as official cars. Please verify reports before posting on ur blog

  15. This administration may be right to seize their passports but is this suppose to be the priority of this new govt? The president has been accused from day one that he is hell bent on destroying his political opponents and he seems to be doing just that. His number one priority is security for the country and he has seem clueless in tackling the issue. So to divert peoples attention, he would start to harass his political opponents. APC, the act of using PDP as an excuse to distract from answering serious pertinent questions is over. I am not saying people in GEJ administration shouldn't be prosecuted but face the most serious issues first. Nigerians are beingSlaughtered every day as if it is a game show

  28. I think some elements in the media are out to misinform the public and further divide an already fragile country. It pains me that even Linda is now party to the sensationalism and misinformation. I don't know how much amusement you get from reading comments of some people on this blog whom you know quite well have been mislead by some of your post. This is not the level of professionalism that got you to where you are now and it sure won't get you to where you want to be. Your duty is to educate, enlighten and entertain. Use your good judgement over some of this post and headlines

  29. I don't understand how pple can get sentimental abou black and white issues, everything not to their liking is witch hunting. Why will an ex-diplomat still be in possession of a diplomatic passport when the operative word here is Ex. I blame the NIS for being inefficient. These items should have being returned may 29th or the next working day. Why should they still have it till now. That's just reckless
