Buhari orders probe of weapons bought since 2007

Press statement from the presidency below..
President Muhammadu Buhari has directed the National Security Adviser to convene an investigative committee on the procurement of hardware and munitions in the Armed Forces from 2007 till now. The investigative committee's mandate is to identify irregularities and make recommendations for streamlining the procurement process in the Armed Forces.
Accordingly, the National Security Adviser has constituted the Investigative Committee as follows:
AVM J.O.N. Ode (rtd.) - President
R/Adm J.A. Aikhomu (rtd.) - Member
R/Adm E. Ogbor (rtd.) - Member
Brig Gen L. Adekagun (rtd.) - Member
Brig Gen M. Aminun-Kano (rtd.) - Member
Brig Gen N. Rimtip (rtd.) - Member
Cdre T.D. Ikoli - Member
Air Cdre U. Mohammed (rtd.) - Member
Air Cdre I. Shafi'i - Member
Col A.A. Ariyibi - Member
Gp Capt C.A. Oriaku (rtd.) - Member
Mr. I. Magu (EFCC) - Member
Brig Gen Y.I. Shalangwa - Secretary

The establishment of the investigative committee is in keeping with President Buhari's determination to stamp out corruption and irregularities in Nigeria's public service.
It comes against the background of the myriad of challenges that the Nigerian Armed Forces have faced in the course of ongoing counter-insurgency operations in the Northeast, including the apparent deficit in military platforms with its attendant negative effects of troops' morale.
The committee will specifically investigate allegations of non-adherence to correct equipment procurement procedures and the exclusion of relevant logistics branches from arms procurement under past administrations, which, very often resulted in the acquisition of sub-standard and unserviceable equipment.

  19. Is it probing of Nigeria’s procurement of weapons since 2007 that deserve exigent probing or how :
    1. Boko haram procures its weapons and transports them across the borders?
    2. Arms bunkers got sunk in every corner of Kano without detection by the state government or Emir
    3. Boko haram gets its finances and the Northern families , politicians supporting Boko haram
    4. The fifth columnists in the army who kept releasing operational information to Terrorists to aid the ambush of Nigerian soldiers

…..are the above not more exigent on the scale of necessity in the fight against the Islamic terrorists of Northern Nigeria than probing the purchase of weapons since 2007? By the way, what of purchases by Obasanjo from 1999 – 2007? Boko haram started in 1999 and not 2007. But today in Nigeria’s media, they call Boko haram a 6 year “insurgency” (not Islamic Terrorism) in order to tie it Dr Jonathan. What a country. Nigeria is doomed.

With this committee set up, and no committees for other more pressing issues relating to boko haram, I am convinced that someone needs to go for a brain scan and psychiatric examination. Perhaps in WEST GERMANY.

  20. All those criticizing, do you realize there were people sent to fight without weapons in the north and some others sentenced to death for refusing to be sent to war empty handed? How would it be fair to those ones to let the corruption that led to their predicament go unsanctioned ?

Roads, schools, power, food, housing, transportation, airports, hospitals, etc. Let him not think for one minute that we have forgotten about the 2.7 billion naira that went 'missing' during his army arrangement!!!! Mschewwwwwwwwwwwwwwww

  25. Nigerians are tired of all these probes everyday without result to show for it

  26. Why not from 1999. We young Nigerians should understand that this PROBE of a thing is based on some personal motives. The president should start working, fulfilling his promises and not all this. OBJ should be the number man to be PROBED if that is what we really want.
