And lawyers make good administrators - Fashola, Akpabio, Chime etc. have shown that in their respective States. What did the Engineers that headed the NNPC achieve administratively?

  64. While I continue to watch and try to keep an open mind on the ongoing appointments been made by the President, I find my sense of impartiality been stretched to a breaking point at the obvious sectionalization of these appointments to Nigerians of Northern extraction.
I see this NNPC GMD appointment as masterful sleight of hand by the President. I ask the following to be noted:
1)why would the President go and pluck a serving Vice-Chair of one of the most nebulous IOCs in Nigeria as the new GMD? How does this not present as a bias against other IOCs (not that I am an admirer of them by the way as they are all brothers of the Seven Sisters - in case you are wondering, google the seven sisters, the mothers of todays major IOCs) and Domestic Oil?
This is akin to President Obama plucking a Chevron Executive to head the US Energy Department! Under no circumstance or consideration can this not stink!
To further add insult to injury, at the swearing-in stands the CEO of Exxon himself!Anyone who is familiar with gentlemen/women of this caliber would know that an employee who has risen to the level of Vice Chair in a bureaucratic conglomerate like Exxon will forever be loyal to his true masters. I assure you that this is one of the main problems with Okonjo who after 20+ yrs at the World Bank found it difficult to answer to her new master, Nigeria when she became Finance Minister.
    2) So Mr. President has presented a wolf in sheep's clothing for all those feeling jittery about his Northern agenda, he presents an Igbo man who I can assure you is no more Igbo (at least in thinking and character) than you can call an axe a hoe. The new GMD is a full Exxon American from the top of his head to the sole of his wing tips.
3)If you are a student of history, go back and you will see that the IOCs have always been comfortable with Northerners in charge. Afterall they owe a huge part of what they are today to the first 40+ yrs of their growth under the Northern hegemony. While we may not be back to square one, we are certainly going around.
    4) As those of us waiting for the appointment of Ministers in September, by the time you get to that dining table, you will find beautiful dishes with no food in them. Right now Mr. President is busy fixing his people into key positions that are and will be the engine room of Nigeria. So you will find that indeed, he will adhere to the zoning formula for Ministerial appointments but I assure you, these ministers will be next to powerless and mere paper tigers. For instance, I will dare the new Minister for Information whom I believe will be a non-northerner to cross the new NCC Chairman. Likewise, I will dare the Minister of Petroleum (if one is indeed appointed) to get in the middle of this cosy relationship between Mr. President and Exxon. And from what I understand the new streamlining of the CBN and the financial sector including the almighty corrosive banks will all but render a Minister of Finance useless.
These are just a few examples, but please use them as templates to consider past and future appointments of President Buhari.
There is an ill wind blowing.
