Boko Haram initiates moves for dialogue – CCC

The Executive Secretary of the Center for Crisis Communication CCC, Air Commodore Yusuf Anas (rtd) says Boko Haram members have made contacts with the center to initiate dialogue with the federal government on how to stop their activities in Nigeria.

This comes after President Buhari stated in a recent CNN interview that he's open for dialogue with the sect members.Air Comodore Anas said this during a press briefing in Abuja today August 4th.

“The efforts by some members of the group to get across to the Centre and the discussions we have had, have been encouraging. We have taken measures also to ascertain the genuineness or otherwise of these persons. We believe they are ready for genuine dialogue. However, discussions are still ongoing and nothing concrete has been arrived at, but it is an opportunity to interact with what I call insiders in the Boko Haram group. Some prominent Nigerians have in recent times canvassed the idea of dialogue with the Boko Haram. The option of dialogue according to them, at the moment provides a leeway of not only safely rescuing the abducted Chibok School Girls alive but also possibly bringing to an end, the orgy of violence unleashed on innocent Nigerians by the group. Considering the unspeakable atrocities which the group has visited on Nigeria and Nigerians, this option is no doubt a hard sell. However, the recent statement of President Muhammadu Buhari on government’s readiness to negotiate with credible members of the sect has rekindled hope for dialogue. From discussions held so far, the members seem to be speaking on behalf of a cross section of the group. They expressed willingness to come forward to make certain proposals on behalf of other members of the group. If we pursue this line, I believe something positive will come out. The Centre however suggests that such dialogue should be done with every sense of caution and responsibility bearing in mind the previous disappointments that attended attempts at negotiations" he said

    2. Really? After u pple rode on boko haram coat tails to enter govt; now they have suddenly initiated dialogue out of d blues? Why would they do that? We know that APC govt knows about this insurgency. Now they want to grant them amnesty like Niger Delta Militants that have geninue agitation. Rubbish! I saw this coming. They stepped up the attack so that it won't be as if they entered into govt and the insurgency came abruptly to a stop before the amnesty. God is watching you northern cabals.

  8. For all I care these mofos may not actually be BH members. They may be some hungry impostors from Niger or Chad tryna have their share of our country's generosity(Amnesty program maybe).
I'm still not with the president on negotiation o.BH may have factions as many as 10.Holding peace talks with one doesn't necessarily mean holding same with all.Besides i see it as legalizing illegitimate grievances which in most cases lead to millitancy or terrorism.Kinda makes it okay for every Tom,Dick & Harry to pick up arms at anytime

  33. These people have been misguided in their knowledge and promise of faith. There is no reward in Paradise for Murder in the name of religion. Let us forgive them for their repentance and lack of lack of knowledge.
All wars comes to an end through dialogue and surrender. Nigeria will never be ruled by any religion. We are free to exercise faith but will never be forced to convert or worship by coercion.

  34. I don't and won't support dis idea of PMB negotiating with dis terrorist group....

  35. The FG should declare Amnesty. They have to surrender their weapons and sign undertakings to abandon the past. Each one has to supply information about their family, hometown and associates, and what activities they had participated in. Then they will be camped, detoxified and retrained with new skills. To restart a new life they will be given a lump sum, equipment but not placed on any salary. After amnesty and peace has been declared, this time final for all over Nigeria, any militant, terrorist or Boko Haram who commits any act of murder, mass killing or bombing should face an equal treatment as that which he perpetrated against society. Their parents or district heads must act as guarantors before they are granted amnesty.

  38. Nigerian must stand up against this proposed dialogue with terrorist, it does not tell why of a country military at all, unless this was a game plan. how can a nation bow to terrorist? it means they cannot even protect her citizens in war. they must go to battle and kill the terrorist same numbers that innocent citizens were killed. dialogue should be a last result through sympathetic begging from their relations to Nigeria,

  41. I'm sure those people not in support of dialogue don't live in the North, if you do, you'll actually see it as a blessing. Yes they have killed thousands and they should answer for their crimes, God will do that, if we can stop the killing now we get to save double or more of the numbers killed, your life might be one of the lives saved here. Please let's stop looking at the cup as half empty and start looking at it as half full. We need peace in this country abeg
