  17. Ben Bruce forgets he owns a tv station and also has not address the poor quality of Nigerian journalism- I am sick and tired of reading Nigerian newspapers peppered with bad grammar and spellings

  23. What of when a television station is owned by a politician?.#at Ben Murray-Bruce#.

  24. makes sense! I've been saying that our press are either owned by politicians or are tribalised. Punch for southwest, vanguard for the east, tribune for the north.

In my opinion, there should be a law mandating that if you cannot cover 2/3 of Nigeria in distribution you shouldn't be in press. This I know will ensure greater balance of news across the nation. For instance how many times do we read news about everyday happenings in the north (that are not bomb related)? or north central. Kwara has only been in the news because the senate president hails from there. Kaduna because of the governor. How about the everyday people in the north? aside politicians? I wished I could have served in the north but boko haram no gri ma papa let me go. The press should have been an avenue for me to become familiar with my entire nation.

The other issue is an 'anonymous source' or "a close aide" biko why don't you name the source and stop being used by politicians to sow hatred and enimity between Nigerians? The press has a huge role to play in democracy o. when will they wake up to their responsibility?
    enough rant.

  27. Most press house today shape their news depending on who pay the bill. The Nation, Punch and Sahara reporters are own or fund by a known politician.

  30. Nice one from Bruce but bruce, you are a politician now and u privately own Silverbird TV and Rhythm FM, please u can sell it to a non-partisan personnel so we will know u are affecting the news at ur station and that the change is happening and starting from you. My thoughts though.

  33. Not in Nigeria
Even when the press enjoys anonymity, the government does what she want to do.
Check and balance applies where rule of law is active.

  39. Does the owner of the press own the conscience and freedom of the journalist? The problem is lack of alternative employment. Politicians are like business. They ate there to compete and win without comportment or conscience. It is up to the people to defend their freedom and liberate their conscience.

  42. Ted turner d founder of cnn told armanpour that there is no blemish on his honour as a founder and a seasoned journalist because he was brave enof to walk away from fat fat envelope, will any journalist in nigeria be able to say dat at d end of deir career?I really doubt. No wonder we do not have investigative journalist in that country.

  43. The difference between STV and TVC is that while STV was founded by a Business man who later join politics after successfully running the media outfit for so many years before going into politics, TVC was founded by politicians in government for the sole purpose of politicking. For and unbiased and non-patisan reporting, politicians must not be the people paying the salaries of the press men.
