Amnesty for looters

A former Chairman of Senate Committee on Establishment and Public Service Matters, Senator Aloysius Etok, has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to introduce what he termed ‘self amnesty programme’ for looters of the nation’s treasury.

Etok, who represented Akwa Ibom North-West Senatorial District at the National Assembly from 2007 to 2015, said the idea is to enable those who looted the country’s funds from the different sectors to willingly return what is left of their loot.

The senator commended the efforts of President Buhari in tackling corruption.
He said as a senator he started the anti-graft war with pension fund managers that had looted the money meant for pensioners.
Explaining his idea of the self amnesty programme in Calabar, Etok said those who looted the nation’s treasury as being gradually revealed by the President Buhari-led administration should be allowed to bring back to government coffers what they have left.
He said
“Let us have self amnesty programme for those who looted the economy. If for instance you have stolen N6 and you have eaten N2, you should be allowed to return the N4 that is left. That should be the starting point.”

  9. Nonsense talk, this kind of talk should not be expected from a lunatic and you a senator is saying return what is left, this is as much as promoting corruption, why did they not tell the common man that stole to return what is left and not go to jail, they all must go to jail for looting, if federal government what a case to be concluded within a month, it will be done. Stupid people who force themselves to represent their people

    2. What Nigeria needs the most is her looted money!! Virtually everybody that lives on that land(Nigeria) is corrupt. Therefore, lets request they turn in the money for lesser sentences such as community service and there will be quick results. Then let going to jail be for the stubborn ones. If you want to throw everybody into jail there won't be people left to govern. Plus all those criminals in banks. My dear, we need rehabilitation from a "majority" corrupt mindset in Naija. Instituted by our VERY CORRUPT PAST LEADERS. May God help Nigeria.

  20. Na God go punish this man... What has being d fate of d young yahoo boy that defraud a foreigner. Hmmm.. Prison of course n confiscation of their properties. Hw about the young graduate without no job who ended up kidnapping or thief. The same fate has being their portion. So why will a person who is already comfortable, stinkingly rich in most cases steal Billon's from is fellow Niajas.. Our common patrimony and this same person is allowed to return d balance of what e has stolen from us. I repeat again that na God go solder d mouth of this senator. They must go to jail.. This is a new Nigeria.....

  21. Nice idea but it would not discourage looting but instead encourage it as people know there would be a loophole to crawl through. I recommend harsh jail terms or death sentences.

    ReplyDelete
  22. So what antecedents are you setting? Whats the penal measures in that? What would discourage others from doing same in the near future. You are obviously a thief yourself, all these gloated opportunists. They just want the listening ears of PMB. Imagine, ppl like these representing Nigerians, its so sad.I dont see this change in PMB's 4 years,if cronies like these are bent on scuttling that plan for a corrupt free society. Rubbish, thieves

  23. Listen to this idiot- amnesty for thief . God punish your generation ole.

  24. So pple actually dey wey steal 6 billion? How naija wan take get light n roads when one person steal 6 billion, little wonder politics is now a do or die affair. Lord have mercy.

    ReplyDelete
  25. yea right, that will encourage more looters lol!

    ReplyDelete
  26. Ehn ehn? I strongly disagree. If you stole 6m, and have squandered 2m, with 4m left- return the 4m and have your asset worth 2m freezed! Then go home free as amnesty! Better like that!

  29. What corruption has Prez BUHARI tackled since this year? He has only been talking. No action done yet. Pls reply my comment by stating what exactly he has done about corruption in any sector at all and what effect it has had. What change has it brought. If u don't have one, then don't type nonsense pls.

  30. OMG!!!! Is this man MAAAAAD?

He is calling for a situation that would allow him and his band of sadistic thieves to all hold on to some funds while pretending to return it all.

Obviously they have stashed away Billions in foreign accounts.

So this man still wants to Walk freely.

I went to this man's school FORTUNE HIGH SCHOOL, UYO. TERRIBLE SCHOOL. UNDERSTAFFED, LOW STANDARDS.

As at this point, one teacher teaches three subjects. A biology teacher would also be taking SS1-SS3 in math, and and still be the vice principal. The school is virtually a ghost town, as most of his students have run away

He is such a greedy, money loving man.. The only thing he is good at is coming up with cost effective policies that enable him hold on to his money, while others suffer

He DOES NOT care about anybody. He only thinks of what suits him.

How this man became a senator still baffles everyone.

    ReplyDelete
  31. It is a good idea but it won't work knowing how greedy and evil nigerian politicians are. People like Abacha and family who looted Nigeria's coffers openly are yet to return the money. Talkless of politicians alive and well today.

  32. But they must replay d balance soon enough

  33. this guy is mentally not okay in the head ,i guess they should give this same amnesty to armed robbers ,yahoo boys and every other criminals since lotting the country is becoming a crime to celebrate for the rich while the poor criminals get long years in prison or even get killed before they even apper in court , just imagine the type of rubbish coming out of ths goat.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Are u kidding me? And this guy was a senator and speaks like a child? You should be shamed of ur self, imagine, return what is left ke? Abi vomit what you ate. Stupid talk.

    ReplyDelete
  35. rubbish talk. Borrow and return all.

    Change is here......

    ReplyDelete
  36. Let me go and steal and return the change later..mumu suggestion. Did this man reallyr represent us. Nawa for my country.

    ReplyDelete
  37. The senator has a point but he shoot amise.
Amnesty accepted but they should refund what they looted or its equivalence but not what is left as he suggested.

    ReplyDelete
  38. They deserve death sentence actually, Bt it does'nt bring back the money, n d new Govt needs money to function. Bt I don't totally support amnesty though. Bt if you bring back a bit, you'll serve your own time. Bt if u fail to, you serve full time. I don't even think any of our corruption laws at d moment evn prescribes up to 5 yrs imprisonment. So it's evn worthless sending dem dia at all without d money recovered. Bt I will like dem to taste d Nigerian prisons in that state they left it... lol. no special prisons for dem. It'll b fun. Only dt alone is worse dan life imprisonment.

    ReplyDelete
  44. No amnesty for them sir. They should return the money and face whatever consequences meted out to them. In short they should be made to work without pay for a long time to recoup all they have squandered. Amnesty bawo

    ReplyDelete
  45. Mr Etok, we Nigerians who suffered as a result of your looting can't accept amnesty! We won't also accept partial refunds! You must be forced to refund all you looted and must be jailed for your crime against humanity! GBAM!
