Photos: Riot in Ariara market after police allegedly kills trader

There was minor riot in Ariara market in Aba, Abia state today after Police/soldiers allegedly shot  and killed a trader at the market. Details are sketchy but according to an eye-witness, the soldiers stormed the market to arrest some people who resisted and during arguements, shots were fired and one man was killed (that's him in the wheel barrow). A few others were injured. Other traders took his body to the police station near the market.

    2. Linda abt 4 people were shot dead today. Its sad. I lost a neighbour to this mess. Nigerian soldiers should be cautioned. The way they jst shoot anyhow. Killing people they are meant to protect. They asked traders to close up and go home but every body cnt leave in 20mins, its a huge mkt for Gods sake. The next tin they opened fire. The governor should do somefin ooo. This is too much to overlook.

  19. Linda always post the truth of the story as it happens jor. It's an Hausa police officer that short and killed the Biafra citizen at ariaria market, the guy was a shoe-making doing his daily job at his shop when those idiot Hausa police began shooting sporadically. There was no argument between the police or anyone before the shooting moreover it wasn't soldiers but police. point of correction.

  30. May God save us, it was actually an officer of the NDLEA that shot the innocent man who was trying earn a living from shoe making, they came to raid those illegal and hard drugs peddlers and met some resistance that was when they started shooting sporadically and when they couldn't achieve their aim, they started molesting every oncoming vehicle that would stop them from getting away.....we demand justice or..

  42. Tnx Linda 4 bringing this 2 the world. This is quite disheartened 4 an energetic young man who left his family 2 be killed at his legitimate place of work for no crime. We should have it in our minds that the young man may have other criminal option of making his livelihood but he didn't take those options yet a law enforcement agent went & shoot him dead while unarmed in his place of work as a shoe maker this is injustice in a very high order. Poor young man he certainly do not have any body 2 stand 4 him. Dear good spirited people, let us fight against this justice & bring 2 book this trigger happy law enforcement Agent.

  43. These guys went to the wrong place to look for trouble. The shoemakers in Aba will definitely outnumber half of the NPF. These are young boys hustling to make a living. They work almost round the clock to make a living and then one drunk police officer will come to waste a young man's life. They will be surprised at what they will get.
