Photos: EFCC returns €10,000 euros to french victim of love scam

Find the EFCC press statement below
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has recovered and returned the sum of 10,000 Euros (Ten Thousand Euros) about Two Million, Two Hundred and Fifty Thousand Naira), to F. Mercade, a French citizen, who was victim of internet love scam.
The fund was wired to the victim through his account in France on the recommendation of the French Embassy in Nigeria.
Roger Balima, French Police Liaison Officer who confirmed the receipt of the funds by the victim, thanked the EFCC “for the good job.”

Mercade was duped by two internet fraudsters, Omodara Adedapo Oluseye and Adesuyi Ayodeji Adedapo after he was deceived into a phantom relationship that was supposedly alter-bound.
The scam was reported to the Commission via a petition from the French Consulate in Lagos, on behalf of Mercade.

The petitioner alleged that he met a Nigerian beauty by name, ‘Kate Williams’ on the internet sometime in 2009 and they developed a relationship which was to culminate in marriage.
‘Williams’ was to relocate to join Mercade in France, to consummate the relationship.

While Mercade planned the logistics of the relocation, ‘Williams’ who purportedly did some jobs for an unnamed company in Nigeria, came up with a story that the company refused to pay ‘her’ for job done. ‘She’ sought the assistance of Mercade and the ‘couple’ contacted a lawyer named ‘James Robert’, to procure traveling documents and also help her claim money from the company owing her.
Mercade parted with the sum of 25,000.00 Euros, through Western Union, in processing his brides’ passage with no bride in sight. Eventually, it dawned on him that he had been scammed.

Investigations into the matter by the Commission revealed that ‘Kate Williams’ is the pseudonym of Omodara Adedapo Oluseye, a male student of the College of Agriculture, Akure, who, however, resides in Ibadan Oyo state.

Omodara’s accomplice, Adesuyi Ayodeji Adedapo, assisted in collecting the money transferred by the victim from the Akure, Ondo State branch of a new generation bank, using forged drivers’ license.

The duo were prosecuted on a two count charge  of conspiracy and obtaining money by false pretences before a Federal High Court Lagos, convicted and sentenced on 13th June 2011, to one year imprisonment each without an option of fine.

    2. I write with so much pains in my heart because how can a lady that is due for marriage finally finds a man that agrees to marry her but the man is so penniless. this is just the case of my own elder sister, a single mum. We don't know whether or not to tell my sister not to go further because this guy can't even provide the necessary things for the tradition rite reasons because its got no job, he does this personal driving stuff for one politician but later resign wen the job was getting so stressful for him, this poor guy leaves home by 7am nd closes by 10am be4 he gets home is almost 11pm for just 20k a month, the day b4 he stopped d work, he said he mistakenly lost his wallet which his driving lences is in it which he would ve used in securing another job but don't even have 10k to do another driving license or don't knw how much is driving license. Please my dear brothers and sisters reading this to just cut the long story short, am writing this without my sister and d guy's Knowledge, please and please I really need our support towards them in contributing for this guy in getting married and in securing something doing . I do not want my sister single because she is a single mum and age is nolonger on her side. He is a very down to earth person and humble but its like life has frustrated him so much, please any1 in d house that can render a helping hand to them, I will be very grateful even if d case be it, requesting to see this guy in person b4 giving him a helping hand, I don't mind, I will still know how to talk to him to bone shame and come see whoever wants to help. Am really feeling for him and my sister, tho my sister works but her salary is just 10k and she said this guy goes a day most times without eating, that really touched me wen I heard, if u see him, he has really grown tin. You knw guys are not like we females that is got alternatives wen thgs goes rough. Please let's help this people out, this guy needs a helping hand for my sister's sake, am helpless as well, I would ve helped the way it's aching me....victoroch9@gmail.com

    8. @victoroch- here lies the issue with Nigerians. Why must u marry for the sake of marrying when all the circumstances are all wrong? So what if she's a single mother? Is that a reason to rush into such a marriage? So u are asking for funds for them to get married, put on a show for guests, when together they earned 30k a month. Like Wtf! Then they get married, the struggle continues and then they born pickin and the vicious cycle continues. They are putting unnecessary stress on themselves abeg. The man earning 20k will now have the additional burden of caring for her and her child?!

They need to go their separate ways, get their lives together and become financially stable. Then consider marriage.

Our mindset needs to change. What will find donations do for them? Temporary fix. If u love ur sister, tell her to postpone the marriage until they are stable.
Nigerians and this marriage by all means sef. Nawa!
