The sponsor of the bill and Chairman, Senate Committee on Defence, Senator Chris Anyanwu, said the bill, which had been in the senate since 2013, amongst other things 'seeks to make a comprehensive legislation on sexual offences by criminalizing certain acts such as sexual tourism, child pornography and cultural and religious sexual offences in our criminal jurisprudence".
The Senate passed the bill yesterday during the "rush hour" plenary session in which 46 bills were passed in 10 minutes.
Great!!!!

ReplyDeleteGud one
ReplyDeleteChild Pornography?
ReplyDeleteI agree with this one.
ReplyDeleteThey should also pass a bill against provocative dressings during the daytime.
ReplyDeleteI am a lady but trust me,the way some ladies dress these days.

By cultural and religious sexual offenses, do they mean if ur religion allows to marry and sexually abuse a girl younger than 16yrs then it's not a crime? Even if d girl didn't want to get married but her parents did ? I wanna get this bill straight
ReplyDeleteVery good...
ReplyDeletePARENTAL ADVISORY!!!
ReplyDelete***adult content***
Let's hope girls don't use this to punish their ex'es
Very good! I love d sentences. But this country is cray! 8yrs imprisonment was approved for gays yet so many of them roam d streets and even bribe d police when they r caught. So I'm guessing this law is for people with no affluence.
ReplyDeleteWow. Now my gals are safe. F**k is free just like s** . ENGR Emy
ReplyDelete#Good!
ReplyDeleteGood move. Naija don wake up
ReplyDeletegood one
ReplyDeleteGood to hear this
ReplyDeleteYES, YES, YES.....TOMJERRYSWIT
ReplyDeleteWhat about sexual harrassment in offices and universities? Pls sexual harrassment by bosses in office and lecturers in universities should be included
ReplyDeleteI love this at least its going to reduce crime rate
ReplyDeleteI trust Nigerian Police and there system. Soon it will be easy for girls to impose rape on a guy cos she definitely knws it's life in prison..
ReplyDeleteGreat!!!....
ReplyDeleteIf a young girl goes for employment, they will want to sleep with her first before granting her employment. Hope this is included in the bill?. Most of all these politicians are guilty of it. They use young girls spiritually to renew their lives so that they can look young and stronger than their ages while the girls suffer spiritually. One man called Sangowawa in Glo does it.
ReplyDeleteBad news for rapist and sex offenders in town. Guess it's time ur Dicks lay low.
ReplyDeleteGood...!!
ReplyDeleteDats a good one, dem try for dis own. Linda take note!
ReplyDeleteDats a good one, dem try for dis own. Linda take note!
ReplyDeleteNat dat dis laws ain't sensible buh dah mofoz seem ta forget dah we've gat more pressing issues atm.....I mean....all dah tyme dey spend within dose closed doors en dis is dah shii dey come up wif....en dey actually get paid ta bring up dis nonsense at a tyme like dis in dis country.....our system sucks ass.....dis countryz goin down under day by day......come ta fink of it....we don't need ta fall further....wat a waste

ReplyDeleteYaay!! How about dos who rape our nation off its resource?
ReplyDelete10yrs? I approve but the law must investigate n be very certain b4 passing judgement cos some funny women can use this to ruin some people's lives. Bye.
ReplyDeleteWORD!!!!
ReplyDeleteChild pornography should also carry the MAXIMUM Sentence.
Davido's driver take note.
ReplyDeleteLinda cogitate
Change has come to stay...A lawful country becomes lawful
ReplyDeleteHmm child pornography I see hope it's the same as a mature man marrying a child. Confused set of people.
ReplyDeleteThat vuvuzela P guy
Thumbs up.
ReplyDeleteNa now their day break abi? Stupid things.
ReplyDeleteLIFE IMPRISONMENT FOR REAL RAPE, MAY BE YES. BUT WHAT ABOUT FAKE RAPE LIKE, A LADY LEADS YOU ON FOR SOMETHING AND WHEN SHE REALIZES THAT YOU AREN'T FOR IT, SHE SNAPS AND CLAIMS RAPE?
ReplyDeleteWHAT IF A SCORNED LADY SETS YOU UP AND TURNS AROUND TO CLAIM RAPE?
It's about time! Wonder why it took them so long. Imagine, since 2013! Bunch of hypocrites! * long hiss in spanish* I wish the sentence for child molestation's life imprisonment as well.
ReplyDeleteA step in the right direction.
ReplyDeleteWonderful!!! Kudos to the Senate for this. A good example for other countries to follow!
ReplyDeleteStill yet to see a bill on corruption, luting and misallocation of public funds. Sex offence law is great no doubt.
ReplyDeleteBut for the gud of Nigeria we need a death penalty law for corruption, stealing of public funds and property.
What about child marriage?
ReplyDeleteWhen was the problem of rape in Nigeria ever blamed on the character of penal measure statutorily reserved for the offense upon conviction for it, which from time immemorial has been life imprisonment pursuant to section 358 of the Criminal Code?
ReplyDeleteWhat is news in the National Assembly merely affirming the position of the law as has been since Amalgamation...
The problem of rape in Nigeria, as far as I know, derives from and has continued to fester due to the prudish attitude of our culture to sex or sex-related matters...
This unfortunately has resulted in rape victims being the objects of scandal and ridicule, and not the perpetrators of the wicked and dastardly act itself...
Sex matters are spoken of in hush tones, let alone speaking up (for justice) on being a sex-offender's victim...
Once sex is demystified on all levels, victims of not only rape and defilement, but also sexual harassment would strut forth boldly to demand justice against the crude beasts amongst us!!!!
this is a welcome development.
ReplyDeleteMarrying underage girls is WRONG, and as seriously wrong as kidnapping, robbery, theft, rape, incest and child pornography, combined. Northern leaders should stop marrying underage girls. Children belong in schools, not bedrooms of geriatrics or anyone's bedroom. WHOEVER MARRIES OR MOLESTS AN UNDERAGE CHILD SHOULD BE JAILED FOR LIFE. The Nigerian Senate needs to stop passing laws to favour themselves. They must uphold the law and jail the criminals within the Senate who married underage girls.
ReplyDeleteAwesome!
