Benue Assembly bars Channels TV correspondent who covered their fight

The speaker of the Benue state House of Assembly, Hon Terkimbi Ikyange has reportedly barred Channels TV correspondent in the state, Pius Angbo from covering their House Proceedings after releasing the footage where the house members engaged in a free for all fight in the house 2days ago.

In an interview with his colleagues on the station's programme, Sunrise Daily this morning, Pius said he went to the state House of Assembly yesterday June 25th to cover House proceedings but was informed by the Chief Press Secretary to the Speaker of the House that only accredited journalists will henceforth be allowed to cover events of the state Assembly.

After waiting for one hour and seeing other journalists gaining access into the cambers, he attempted to enter but was stopped by the CPS to the Speaker who told him categorically that the speaker asked that he, Pius, should not be allowed into the House chambers. Pius left the assembly complex afterwards.

  4. Its quite unfortunate and more shameful the disposition of the Benue house of assmbly speaker after the disgraceful act on the floor of the house.
Even after his colleagues pleaded with him to allow the channel staff in, he refused just because Channels brought to Nigerians video of their Shaolin temple fight the other day.

  28. What a shame. Channels is not responsible for the show of shame at Benue State House of Assembly so i wonder the basis for such a terrible decision by the Speaker.

  36. It's a very stupid move on the part of both the CPS and Assembly Speaker. Shame on them! Did the Senate and House of Representatives bar the correspondents there? Small boys with unnecessary egos masquerading as adults with NFA.

  39. Freedom of the press, thiis is totally unacceptable. The seat of the rep is a figure for all to see. So the only unbias channel has been barred. I strongly oppose and this is unlawful. The ban should be lifted immediately.

  40. They are trying to control the Press in order to cover their shameless acts. Lol

  43. Channels TV on behalf of Naija citizens need to sue the speaker and Benue State House of Assembly. This is a government of the people by the people, for the people and not a dictatorship. Rather than make amends for their despicable show to the public the speaker & this brute "house" has the effontery to clamp down on a freedom of the press and public information. Such poor behaviors and cover-ups must not continue as it spills into other corners of the nation and sets the people backward.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Looool. It seems they intend to fight again round two that is why the house does not want Channels to be there to capture it again. I guess the first fight round one did not get the matter resolved.
