Photo: Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala awarded with a honorary degree by Yale University

Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister for the Economy, Dr Ngozi Okonjo Iweala was awarded with a honorary Doctorate of Human Letters, by the prestigious Yale University in the US yesterday May 18th. Also decorated with a honorary degree is African singer, Angelique Kidjo who was awarded Honorary Doctorate of Music. What the school wrote about her after cut...

"You are a citizen of your country, your continent, and the world. Shaped by challenging experiences during your childhood in Nigeria, you have made social and economic reform your mission. As Nigeria’s coordinating minister of economic development and minister of finance, you have tackled corruption, created a vision and path to long-term economic stability, and worked to build a culture of transparency. At the World Bank, you made food security a priority and provided policy advice and capital for the world’s poorest countries. With wisdom, a fierce dedication to doing what is right, and unflagging energy, you have transformed the economic landscape of your nation. We are proud to name you Doctor of Humane Letters".

    2. Isn't that the problem with you Nigerians. Masters of bench chair criticisms. OkonjoIweala remains a pillar of strength and bravery. Rather than cheering her on you are stupidly talking about when ovation was loudest. God will not send a thunder bolt to reform Nigeria. She has done her bit. Let us see the miracle that Buhari and band of governor bandits will do. Honestly some Nigerians are the worst hypocrites. Madam OkonjoIweala congrats. It is an honor well deserved. In a country of political thieves and their supporters you remain a light. Before Yale would give someone an honorary degree the person' must have been thoroughly investigated and checked out so it is clear that OkonjOIweala has a clean slate. Well done madam!

    3. Anon 9.51, you are a tramp. It's understandable that all you aspire to be is a cobbler. She has a well made past, while you are only a blip of past tense. She has a future well laid out while all of yours is about your next ball of fufu. That's why she's Bonita and you are stupidly Anonymous.

  25. I think the University is not in tune with modern reality in Nigeria. How could they say that Dr Okonjo tackled corruption? I disagree with that. But congrats to him anyway.

  48. Yorubas will cry their eyes out today, Ngozi is finance minister, not a yoruba person, therefore whatever the woman does they will criticize her.But those at Yale know what our tribalistic minds don't. Congrats Ngozi, my name sake.

    1. My dear it's not just the yoruba, it is even more like the Hausa. Esp. That bonita bislam girl! Very hypocritical human being! With all her subtlety in dishing out her cynicism towards the south, the smell of hypocrisy still filters through! Bloody northerners who feel everything south must be their subject! Their arrogance disgust me! Buhari has entered now let us have peace, yet they wouldn't let us! Nigeria is a sham and will continue to be! Let them the conquerors go and strip okonjo iwuala of her honorary award or better still write a protest to Yale! Bloody mallams!
