NANS threaten protest over NDLEA's siege on Kashamu's residence

Press statement below...
The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Ogun State axis, has described the continual siege on the residence of the Senator-elect of Ogun East senatorial district, Prince Buruji Kashamu by the officers of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agencies (NDLEA) as political display and gross misconduct against the laws of Nigeria.

In a statement issued yesterday and signed by NANS national public relations officer, Paul Ogunkoya and Ogun State NANS chairman, Olasunkanmi Ahmed, the body said NDLEA, as an agency of government should not lay a bad precedence of disregard to a court of competent jurisdiction.

A Federal High Court in Lagos had mandated the operatives of the agency to vacate Kashamu's residence on Ladipo Omotosho Street, Lekki and also restrained the NDLEA and other security agencies in Nigeria from unlawfully arresting the senator-elect and extraditing him to the United States over drug-related offences.

NANS said: "We have applauded the action of the NDLEA in the past for being one of the dutiful agency in Nigeria of today.

"It saddened the mind of majority of we students leaders that after a competent court of law order them to vacate the premise of the senator-elect as at Tuesday and Wednesday.

"We are highly convinced that the activities of the NDLEA has being politicised, it has involve personal aggrandizement and catekerous attitude for turning a deaf ear to the verdict of the court."

While urging students to stand for peace and justice, the body threatened to mobilise students for protests at NDLEA headquarters in Abuja.

"We hereby appeal to official of NDLEA to save the future of our dear country, by obeying the law. The younger generation are watching with keen interest.

"We also seized the medium to disclose that failure of NDLEA officials to respect the law within 24-hours might lead to a massive protest at a sooner date to the NDLEA headquarter in Abuja," the student body vowed.

  12. You want to protest abi? Seems u feel like wasting away your own future by fighting for the wrong cause.

In the first place, why didn't you guys protest when Kashamu was declared the winner of a primary he didn't win?

Now you want to protest over his house arrest? Why can't he go and face the law if he's so confident of doing no wrong in the US? He can't run away from his sins but can only hide.

He made the greatest mistake by coming out to vie for a Senatorial post when he knows he's wanted!

What a country we live in.....people celebrating bad people as heroes! #smh

  28. NANS has no doubt become a purposeless and meaningless organization guided srictly by what they can "eat". It has obviously become a tool to be purchased by whoever is willing to put some "change " in the hands of thugs who claim to represent students.

  29. NDLEA is breaking the law if a court truly said they should bounce

  30. If the statement, credited to the NANS, was actually authored by its leadership, then I can now understand why many developed countries will not want to touch anyone currently educated in a Nigerian university even with a long pole. I now know why many people believe that education in Nigeria is finished! The Statement contains incomplete sentences. Every line of the Statement contains either bad grammar, bad punctuations or wrong spellings. And they are Nigerian university students. I don't believe this!

  31. Thugs blandishing themselves as students...What does NANS has to do with Buruji Kashamu being held house rest by NDLEA...Hmmmmm joblessness and lacking focus out of greed, is a big disease and that is what the so called NANS Ogun chapter is suffering...Meanwhile NDLEA should do the needful and obey court other...However, if finally Buruji Kashamu is found guilty and indicted after following due process and rule of law, then he should face the music...gbam !
Wait please, can any tribe apart from Igbo be found culpable of indulging in any money related offense(s) ? Keeping fingers crossed.....

  32. NANS ke? Useless and hungry touts that call themselves students....This man must face the music. USA never forgets, it's just a matter of time.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Are these the future leaders of tomorrow? I doubt that very much. And here I was thinking NANS would support the course of justice. That a court asked NDLEA to vacate his premises doesn't make him not guilty. In this time when we are grappling with corrupt politicians,he should surrender,be cleared and then be sworn in as senator elect.

    1. Then why not follow due process? Why are they going tru the back door? It's obvious that there is something more to the arrest than we know.

  35. am not even concerned about the man. What i find anoying is the absolute disregard for the rule and a court of competence jurisdiction by this agencies in this country. Acting as if they are above the law

  36. NANS did not protest when oil marketers were holding the country to ransome...na protest for politician na him dem carry for head...what a show of shame......

    ReplyDelete
  37. Nans already exchange der future with drug money. If Kasamu didnt commit, let him go to Us and face d court. Is a big shame for Nans. Well i cant blame them, the ontological specimen of an identical plumage invariably congregated in close proximity.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Hmmmmm, u guys re crazy. See na comment if u too see d opportunity of carring drugs, shey na no go carry am? Na all of u dey talk rubbish as if u na dey right. Useless person. Idiot. Abeg go sit joor.
