Court dismisses suit against DSTV over subscription fees increase
Justice Chukwujeku Aneke of the Federal High Court Lagos today struck out the suit filed against Multichoice Nigeria, owners of DSTV by two subscribers over the 20% increase in subscription.
Justice Aneke in his ruling, said the plaintiffs who are both lawyers and subscribers of DSTV had no obligation to continue using the service of Multichoice after they increase their charges. He described their suit as abuse of court proceedings.
All Nigerians citizens can u imagine the justice Chukwujeku Aneke judge on this case? that is very bad judgment when I mean very bad, the way DSTV is charging DSTV users in Nigeria is too much and that is what DSTV can not do or try in SA where they came from, I believe justice Aneke, has taken bribe from DSTV company yes I believe so. I pray our president elect do something about all this judges in Nigeria, the other day igbinadion son, who stolen 25bn Naira was told to pay 3m out of 25bn he stolen from Edo state. Government, they sentence his aide to 20 years jail.
True but, I think the case here is the 20% increase; that's rather much. The annual increase in SA for subscription is not up to 3%.. Well, they know Naija will surely pay any amount..
That lawyer don't understand the plight of the consumers. Let me remind him that 20% increased is much and it ll never happen in south Africa. Linda pls tell him to call the case backooo
i will campaign massively against DSTV and i will make sure they stop bribing our SENATORS about dieing the matter to revoke their monopoly in NIGERIA. its time we take a STand against this SOUTH AFRICAN mULtinationals.
When will the justice system, government and whatever they are learn to fight for the citizens of this country abegi ??!! Non of them cares about the deteriorating economy and how it affects Nigerians ? Money is hard to come by, food is expensive, life is hard. If we had good TV stations, who the hell would bother with DSTV ?? ChAi ... This country nawa ooo !! See me why dey happy say they rule to even slash prices or leave the country !! God save Nigerians .... and yes, money has changed hands.
LOL true, what would work is a boycott of DSTV but what is the alternative?!!! HITV and Star Times and DAAR that were supposed to offer stiff opposition have all failed woefully because of mismanagement and a blatant lack of planning and focus!!! If Nigerians can afford to boycott DSTV for a better part of this two months that the EPL would be on break, they will feel the impact. They are ripping Nigerians off and because they know they do not have any opposition they know they can get away with it!
While de south Africans re enjoying the free holiday trips & gists they give their subscribers over there but here they come to our land increase it & no one cares
Truth remains that Nigerians could be stupid more often than not...even if there's anonymous decision to boycott DSTV services, you'll still see people subscribing for it as if their life depends on DSTV. I wont be surprised that within the next 6 months another increment will apply and Nigerians will keep watching. #suffering and smiling indeed.
I appreciate a lot of people here would not understand the principles of contract, therefore would resort to abusing the judge! But he is correct in his interpretation of the law, and right in giving the 2 lawyers a dressing down for abuse of process. #TheLawMayBeAnAssButTheLawIsWhatItIs#Chikena
I hate this country, how can you say Nigerians have a choice when is obvious other competitors are way below standard in clarity and others. We should co-operate, a good and influential activist should create a petition and Nigerians should sign, is either they revert the price, pay as you watch or they fuck the hell outta country and we end up loving our NTA and others as old times. Which is better kinda. #AssPeople
Nigeria doesn't have a judicial system its all a joke. Has a poor person ever won any case against a wealthy person? Same way two individuals cannot in anyway win a case against multichoice
Smart guys,DSTV sued themselves through their own lawyers and got the case struck off,, Who else will bring up such a case again after it has jst been struck out in a court of competent jurisdiction..Naija we hail thee,.
The truth is that DSTV is a private business. You can't really dictate how much they should fix the price of their products because you are not part of their production process. Unless it's a government controlled business with backing Laws such as the oil and backing sector. I think govt only controls what they can show. Unless there is a law to control how much they can charge.
As it is, it is not mandatory that you subscribe with DSTV
I blame Nigerians for failing to raise a competition. Remember how competition gave rise to per second billing, low call tariffs lower sms rates etc
Unless there is serious competition DSTV will continue to milk us. They know that. That is why they quickly floated GoTV to kill the emerging competition.
Me n dstv parted ways a long time ago. Since December last year I haven't recharged n now dat d subscription fee has increased I know for real can't b tempted cos I can't afford it. Datta feed my twins first and I never buy pampers finish.
Dstv is a luxery service. You need it you pay for it. The only thing that can drop their exorbitant increase is competition, like the telecoms market. The judge only upheld d law,
Money has changed hands.
