Photos: An overcrowded lecture hall at Nnamdi Azikiwe University

This is a lecture hall at the Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka. It's popularly known as MPH. It's overcrowded, people are hanging on window to receive lectures and fans are not working. Some of the students sent the pics in hoping their school will do something about it. Another pic after the cut..

  11. MPH is only used during GS bc it's always a combined lecture. So dis is no news bc I graduated from UNIZIK n dia lecture halls are perfect. MPH means multi purpose hall, n its mainly used for GS or exams dt av to do with 2 or more classes joined togeda. That does not mean dt dose classes doesn't av a separate lecture hall for dia normal daily lectures.

    4. I went to awka and all my year one course where mostly between mph and sci village. It was always crowded, in fact this pic isn't crowded! It's scanty compared to when we hv chemistry or bio or maths lecture where all d science students part fron d engine guys would sit or stand or hang by thw Window of this same hall to attend classed! Students always fought for seats and pple like me where always in class b4 6am just to get a gd seat in front. Awka is beautiful u should all visit d nnewi campus where I graduated from. Dat one no even get motor able roads. I am proud of my teachers and d name of my sch and Dats about it. That sch especially nnewi needs real help. Students pay as high as 250k just to get gd accommodation bcos d sch hostels can't take up to one tenth d student population.it sucks

    5. Anon 5.46...Ur a liar...I graduated from nnewi campus and the highest house rent as of 2014 is 100k...Most hostels pay 60, and the newer ones 80k- 90k .stop lying for the sake of recognition plz..its pathetic. There's absolutely no wher at nnewi campus itself dat has a house rent as much as 120k.

    6. I wish I could click a like button for your comment. MPH, I knew about it very well though I never used it. Cos I graduated from the faculty of law, where we never left the faculty to receive a GS. Btw, Unizik is one of the best schools in Nig in terms of structure. The constructions are new and morden. I only got to appreciate that school when I went to unilag for my masters. .people should tell every story in full so it makes a complete sense..

  12. The sch authorities wouldn't do anything about. They should learn to manage the situation. I was in such situation years back, I coped with d situation bcos I wasn't there to stay forever

  49. I attended Unizik and from my 2nd year to my final year we were only 60 in well ventilated class rooms, environmental science. This pic is a pic of the multipurpose hall were 100level students receive combined lectures for course like GS (General Studies) and CSC (Computer Science), students from different departments usuallly receive these lectures together, hence the supposed crowd.

  52. All these people sending pictures of over crowded lecture halls should just pay 300k and go to private schools! Ah! You can't pay 20k and expect Presidential treatment. Millions went through same thing and survive, shut the f up, stick your phone in your pocket and concentrate before you flunk GS 101.

  53. Some pple are so used to abnormality. Shows the level of their exposure. Bet they'll feel odd in a sane environment

    State $ federal Universities
    Mostly during GS classes
    for year1 and year2 students
So enough of people sharing their crowded classes
Most of us passed through it

  61. its no news, this is the 1/3 of what you will see in ESUT or IMSU around early 2000's

    ReplyDelete
  62. Wen I attended d school we had the building called "warehouse" in the temporary site and i refused to attend lectures there. It was a big joke then. As will have it I flunked most of the courses I had in the warehouse . It was essentially a big massive warehouse sectioned into 4 compartments, two big halls and two small lecture rooms. It was always hot, sweaty and mosquito ridden and you couldn't hear wat the lecturers were saying. I remember a particularly kind lecturer always brought his microphone to give lectures with.
    Seems tings haven't changed much.....

  65. I am a teacher in a private school in Laos with no International training what so ever. My rooms have been awarded the best classroom 3 times by international observers. My point is that we need to make concerted effort in making our things better. How can we sell any Nigerian University or Education internationally with this depressing outlook.

  72. Why are Nigerians so used to suffer head, that it becomes a norm? Because it is a General or combined course does not mean that the necessary facility should not be put in place to accommodate the crowd conveniently. Lets speak until these issues are addressed, instead of sharing the testimonies of how little the crowd in this hall is compared to the various schools mentioned......
