Photos: Chaos in Onitsha after police man shoots driver dead

Yesterday, a policeman allegedly shot dead a 'Hero' beer truck driver during a road rage in Onitsha, Anambra state. According to eye-witnesses, the truck driver had parked his truck in a manner the policeman said was disturbing other road users. The policeman who was part of an escort van came down from his police vehicle, approached the truck and an argument ensued. For reasons best known to the police officer, he opened fire and shot dead the truck driver.

This morning, an angry mob, including truck drivers and conductors came out in their numbers to protest the death of their colleague. They burnt tyres and blocked the gate leading to the company where the policeman worked. When the protest seemed to be getting out of hand, the army had to be called in and they came with an armored tank. See the photos after the cut...

If they did they won't be calling the army when things get too bad like this, they know how to harrass people but don't know how to maintain peace and order.. what's the need of having police men then, change them to vigilante and give them sticks... ndiara lol

  29. Firstly, Linda, that's not an 'armoured tank'...that's an 'APC' (armoured personnel carrier).

Secondly and more importantly, our police force needs to be purged intensely and more stringent punishments issued to officers and men (of the police force) for cases like this. How on earth can so-called 'law enforcers' keep abusing the use of their weapons by shooting unarmed and civilians that pose not threat to them?
That police man should be arrested and made to face the law.

    God Bless Nigeria.

  54. Funny how a police officer thinks this is acceptable, there is absolutely no excuse for his, even if he was slapped by the driver, has he ever heard of arrest or impounding a car? since when did taking a life become punishment for blocking the road or parking wrongly.
