INEC declares Abia state election inconclusive

The Governorship election in Abia state has been declared inconclusive by the state Returning Officer, Prof Benjamin Ozumba. Prof Ozumba while briefing newsmen in Umuahia, the state capital today, said irregularities in the number of registered voters in areas where elections were cancelled or did not hold was higher than the margin of difference between the leading candidates of the PDP and the All Progressive Grand Alliance in the election. A rerun will be conducted...

    A sure but delayed victory

    By ENYINNAYA APPOLOS

    As I write, am in high spirit, basking in the euphoria of a sure, but delayed victory of Okezie Ikpeazu Ph.D, the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), against Alex Otti of the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) in the 2015 governorship election in Abia State.

    Against all odds and to the chagrin of many, Dr. Ikpeazu on December 8, 2014, emerged the candidate of the PDP, dusting very powerful and deep-pocket aspirants. He was never given a chance, but like he always sung, that it is the grace of God that is propelling him, pulled the stunt.

    For many of us in the Okezuo Abia team, from the very beginning of the struggle, we envisaged a conspiracy, not against Ikpeazu as a person, but against the Ngwa people and many other common people of Abia State.

    It is not news by now that the governorship election in Abia was declared inconclusive on the grounds of cancelation of some polling units in some LGAs in the state. The affected polling unites are in Osisioma, Ugwunagbo, Aba North, Aba South, Isialangwa South, Isialangwa North, Umuahia North, Umuahia south, Ohafia Arochukwu and Umunneochi.

    Please note that election was not canceled in the entire aforementioned LGAs, but in some polling units in the areas.

    Before the election was declared inconclusive, the electoral officers has accepted results from the 17 LGAs of the state. And from the results accept by INEC, Dr. Ikpeazu of the PDP pulled defeated Alex Otti of APGA with 83,053 votes, haven recorded 248,459 votes, while Otti has 165,406 votes.

    According to the electoral act, where the total number of canceled votes is greater that the margin of the winner against the loser, the electoral body will organize an election in the affected polling units.

    In this case, a total number of 177,000 votes were canceled in some polling united in the aforementioned LGAs. 177,000 canceled votes is greater than 83,053 votes which Ikpeazu is defeating Otti with.

    Dr. Ikpeazu and the PDP is ready for the election in the canceled inits any dates INEC fixes it. And we are confident of wining again.

    Below is the results already accepted by INEC from the 17 LGAs in Abia.

    Isialangwa south: PDP = 7133
    Apga = 5686
    Arochukwu: PDP = 3032
    APGA= 11383
    Bende : PDP= 5164
    APGA= 14263
    Aba north: PDP= 6000
    APGA= 24000
    Isialangwa north: PDP=19798
    APGA= 6853
    Ugwunagbo: PDP= 17788
    APGA=1022
    Osisioma : PDP= 42122
    APGA= 1017
    Ukwa east : PDP=4261
    APGA= 3140
    Ukwa west: PDP=9154
    APGA=4890
    Umunneochi: PDP=4324
    APGA=7349
    Isiukwuato: PDP=5913
    APGA= 8275
    Umuahia north: pdp=18215
    apga=15752
    Umuahia south: PDP - 4,580
    APGA - 5,973
    Obingwa: PDP =82, 240
    APGA=1952
    Ikwuano: Ikwuano. PDP= 2465
    APGA =4295
    Aba south: PDP= 4871
    APGA= 28823
    Ohafia: PDP= 11,729
    APGA= 17,690

    Total for PDP= 248,459
    Total for APGA= 165,406

    This is a sure, but delayed victory. Okezuo Abia...together we can...it will surely end in praise.

  42. We d PDP members are still ready to return our vote, I wonder d type of stupidity that worries otti, So he think he can win in ngwa when okezie is from ngwa, married ngwa woman and spent all his life in ngwa land? Alex has no brain.

  45. So if PDP also messed up the South Eastern states largely from comments above, why do you people want them to come and rule in Lagos. Or were you just trying to intentionally spoil what some people have toiled to build. I think all the people calling Tinubu thief, should first go and cleanse their lands of all the criminals ruling (PDP).

  53. It is pertinent to understand the true situation before you start writing bullshit! If you knew better about the current situation in Abia you would know that PDP is leading APGA with over 86,000 votes and all local governments have turned in their results, collation completed but at the point of announcing the results, the INEC returning officer was instructed not to announce the winner cos it was going to be in favor of the PDP candidate. The said returning officer had already been bribed prior to the elections by the APGA candidate. So why is Otti so desperate to assume power in Abia to the extent of bribing both the army. Police and INEC officials? The situation in Abia, is a game of power shift! This is the turn of the Ukwa Ngwa people and not the old bende anylonger! Ukwa and Ngwa want an Ngwa man to emerge the Governor this time which does not favor Otti. The only issue is that the Ngwa man is the PDP candidate, that's all!! APGA has rigged it's way from old bende and still believe they can rig into Ngwa land and forcefully collect their votes? Hell no!! That's not possible. Even with the re run, APGA will still go down the alley, this is the turn of the Ngwa man and there's no going back on that resolve!! Ngwans have been marginalized for this long and will not allow this opportunity slip away. Otti go back to the banking industry, if diamond bank can still accommodate u, u better go back!! Cos even the army u bribed cannot stop the ngwa man. Yesterday u claimed to be an ngwa man, today u claim to be from Aro, my good friend are u an alien? Abi na only u Waka come?? This shouldn't be a do or die affair if u truly have no hidden agendas for our state. God is watching u cos this is no longer about T.A Orji but about the Ngwa man!!

    1. Babanla lier. We are tired of the evil leadership of PDP in Abia. It's not and shouldn't be a tribal thing Mr Ngwa Man. Are you not tired of the deplorable state of infrastructure in your Aba- Ngwa? Must we continue to suffer because they have come this time with your brother? Na the same people. We want change in Abia State and PDP can not rig that out this time.

  54. Oti remember once upon a time you were T A Orji's right hand man, you both perpetrated fraud with Abia money while you were GMD of diamond bank. You struck deals together in our state. Suddenly he turns your enemy because he refused to nominate you as the governorship candidate of PDP. Now you realize he is the Satan you bind in your sabbath church. To thyself be true# julius caesar#.....if you say you are also an ngwa man all of a sudden, why then do you fight the people's choice "Ikpeazu"? We the Ngwa people have spoken and chosen.....Okezuo Ikpeazu is our choice. Call back in 2050 when power returns to old bende again. Even aro Chukwu where u come from and supposedly won, u still want a re run becos your plans are to manipulate the figures in your favor. We await you patiently at the Ngwa end and you dare not try urself here!! Your boast is in the Nigerian army but our boast and confidence is in the Lord Almighty. Even that which u already have, shall be taken away. # Listen#

    It is people like you that should be permanently exiled from Nigeria. We are here talking about abhorrent electoral malpractices and ultimately redeeming Abia state by getting the BEST candidate to lead us and you are there ranting about the "Ngwa Man". From your posts, all that matter is that the next Governor of Abia state is an Ngwa Man, whether he is capable or not, whether the process is free or not is immaterial to you?
    Shame on you.
