The Director, Media and Publicity Directorate of the APC Presidential Campaign Organization, Mallam Garba Shehu, talked to Vanguard about APC's surprise on GEJ's phenomenal move...
“I can say that the President acted with grace. He surprised us because we never expected that they would accept defeat. In fact, the sense everyone had was that they probably had plan A, B, C or D. And in any case, with the kind of thing that Mr. Orubebe did at the collation center, you knew that even when the President had grace, given the chance with the community of people around him, they could have threatened this democracy.“Look, I have been involved in presidential campaigns about three or four times in the past, the difference is that this is the most fearful campaign that I have ever experienced. This is the most life threatening campaign because we were dealing with opponents we thought would stop at nothing because they were throwing everything into it.
So, we were not taking anything for granted. It affected our lives. Would you see me in a night club? You couldn’t risk it because you didn’t even know who was trailing you. And it came as a huge relief.
“Again, we were getting security reports from our own sources. Until the President said ‘I concede’ and congratulated Buhari, we felt every minute that something wrong would happen. There was a clear and discernible threat to democracy as a system of government.
“Look, everyone felt concerned because, what if, God forbid, he declared a coup? These scenarios had been laid before Nigerians. Mr. Okupe, the Special Adviser to the President, was he not on Youtube, recorded on video, saying that Buhari will never become President? What do you take that for? It means that Buhari would win and they will take it away from him.
“This careless talk, arrogant display of power, it had come from the Villa. Many sources with linkages to power: Asari-Dokubo, Chief E.K. Clark and all of them, were they not sounding words to the President? They had said it that they would take away their part of the country from Nigeria if Buhari won.
“But for the President to have come and say ‘I accept defeat as the leader of the country’; that had an effect of really calming things down. And that’s why, whether they like it or not, President Jonathan has written his name in gold in so far as this is concerned.” Shehu said.
He then assured that the Buhari would not avenge the attacks on his person by the allies of Jonathan, saying there was enough work to do to meet the aspirations of Nigerians than pursuing mundane things.

We thank God
ReplyDeleteAww that's tautful of em, #NigeriaDecide
ReplyDeleteLet's move on pls. This is beginning to irritate me. I Still support Buhari though.
ReplyDeleteGEJ is a good man, Wish him luck in his future deeds
ReplyDeletePresident jona was matured and smart about it,
ReplyDeleteand people have praised him for that.
He is linda ikeji's hero.
He is a good man.
nor be small
ReplyDeleteJonathan is indeed God fearing.
ReplyDeleteAm sure Buhari wouldn't accept defeat,if it was Buhari
Jonathan is trying to play safe by accepting defeat graciously. I hope all found guilty of embezzlement are dealt with severely
ReplyDeleteHmmm he jst have to!
ReplyDeleteGood example, good human feeling, we don't need blood shedding anymore.
ReplyDeleteWe thought so too... lindaobserve
ReplyDeleteGEJ is peaceful, GEJ is God fearing, GEJ is humble, GEJ is a gentle man, GEJ is the most tolerant President ever and GEJ dose not want the blood of Nigerians on his hand. I wish Buhari did that when he lost in 2011. SMH. GOD BLESS GEJ.
ReplyDelete#Word
DeleteU feared ?????? Abi u were planning on the next attack with ur bh boys if he didn't accept. Who's fooling who? Ewu fulani.
ReplyDeletePresident Jonathan is peace-loving unlike Buhari that has no problem in calling his hausa fulani brothers into the street to slaughter innocent people anytime he lose election.
ReplyDeleteAPC is the troublesome party, they are the violent ones not PDP ( i am not a politician ) Now GEJ has put APC in a tight corner with his action. I dey laugh o ( in OBJ voice )
ReplyDeleteGEJ my Presido always
ReplyDeleteHe did and we thank God for that.
ReplyDeleteWho z he that he wont concede defeat. The significance of the who scenario is to show how powerful n mysterious is our God.The wisest man on earth is at the foolishness order level to God.
ReplyDeleteU see u see don't u just love jona
ReplyDeleteAnd I wonder why you fear? Or...... Lips sealed. Married Couples: The best discovery channel in the world is marriage. Have you ever had reason(s) to ask WHO DID I MARRY? its hilarious but touching/educating. Kindly click www.thepinkjournalng.blogspot.com.
ReplyDeleteWell said, next time people should be careful what they say be it in Aso rock, streets or even here on Linda blog. No one knows tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteDis words r too precious to behold "I can say that the President acted with grace. He surprised us because we never expected that they would accept defeat".
ReplyDeleteIndeed, he has written his name in gold.
I hear u,lets see how it goes
ReplyDeleteI'm not in support of his ruling n his accomplices but I know he, Jonathan is s good man but his gesture was just not good enough to rule nigeria. God bless GEJ
ReplyDeleteUhmm..OgaJona no be trouble maker..na gentleman & very humble...Shebi una don see too..Na OgaJona be dt,beta man.
ReplyDeleteUhmm..OgaJona no be trouble maker..na gentleman & very humble...Shebi una don see too..Na OgaJona be dt,beta man.
ReplyDeleteMy dear Jonathan is not like that.
ReplyDeleteSir, we apreciate ur insight. We will rem this. When it will be ur turn 2 concede defeat, do the same and hand over power.
ReplyDeleteMeanwhile stop all these praises and get down to work. The task of straightening Nigeria is very uphill. The so-called gracefulness shld not let anybody off the hood. Don't begin 2 sound like the rogues u have just removed from office.
Pls get down 2 work.
Abeg! They think everyone is a sore loser like Buhari. Smh!
ReplyDeleteLol, of course they were not expecting him 2 concede defeat becoz they won't concede, if they were in his shoes.........u see?? Jonathan will 4ever be remembered!!! GEJismyHERO
ReplyDeleteIt better be as he has just said.
ReplyDeleteLol Even the APC are celebrating My Honorable GEJ, the Real Statesmen Of Dis Country and not any Old granpa*
ReplyDeleteMaturity in display offcourse; unlike Buhary. In 2011 at dis time so many souls are gone already.
ReplyDeleteEven This is When you Know APC is transparent.
ReplyDeleteThanks for acknowledging Jonathan's part of the deal,if Buhari had done so previous times, lives would not have been lost.
ReplyDeleteGej all d way👍... He has set an example. A precedent that must be followed..
ReplyDeleteGej all d way👍... He has set an example. A precedent that must be followed..
ReplyDeleteYea
ReplyDeleteThey knw why they are surprised
ReplyDeleteNot every1 can do that
Not even Buhari himself
President Jonathan is indeed a peaceful man. If it was APC that lost out there would have being violent everywhere but thank God for everything.
ReplyDeleteLet him tell us about their own plans supposed GEJ rejected the election results APC had their own plan A, B, C to Z if not why all the "dangrugrus" ran away from the south before March 28th
ReplyDeletena wah o! Vanguard should do better in editing their papers. Goodluck shocked the world! Forever will be remembered and he deserves a Nobel award!
ReplyDeleteU guys thought he was desperate 4 power? Nah nah he is not desperate like u guys ok.. now run along and tell Gmb 2 deliver if not.... These same people dat asked 4 change will ask 4 d whole of their money and not just d change...
ReplyDeleteWhat an irony. Buhari will still revenge on those allies who are corrupt. GEJ is a peaceful man even before he conceded defeat. The threats and continued massacre of innocent lives was a well planned political strategy to win the election.
ReplyDeleteNigeria is messed up today is because Buhari did not accept defeat in 2011 thereby frustrating Gej ' s administration... whoever dat has a hand in frustrating Gej and making him concentrate on trying 2 stop Bh will never know peace..
ReplyDeleteAbi....no need to attack people based on what they've said during campaigns.....there's so much work to be done
ReplyDeleteMy noble president. God will forever bless you
ReplyDeleteMy noble president. God will forever bless you
ReplyDeleteGEJ is a man. There are also manythat would have reacted but the phone call he made before the final result came out calm some nerves. If the person involved could do that, there is no need fighting they said to themselves. GEJ action made Orubebe begs for forgiveness, his action made most of his allies who campaigned negatively to send congratulatory message, his action gave us christians peace in the north. May your days be long GEJ, you shall never lack peace in your household and you are forever in our hearts. You are loved GEJ.
ReplyDeleteBusy Fingers.
And he did...
ReplyDeleteThank President Jonathan for not listening to the drums of war. This shd b a lesson for the incoming govt. We wont fail to remove them if they fall short of their deliverables.
ReplyDeleteBut Jonathan accepted defeat and that's a honorable thing to do.
ReplyDeleteADD US FOR ALL YOUR ERRANDS WITHIN AND OUTSIDE LAGOS..
Gej the face of our new political era
ReplyDeleteCan we rest now that he had conceded defeat? U people were gonna cause problem if GEJ had won. We ll see the magic Buhari ll perform when he assumes office.
ReplyDeleteUbanagum
Wow!!
ReplyDeleteVery true
ReplyDeleteHe should go take several seats abeg, u people ve won, let's hear word!
ReplyDeleteYes PDP consists of scoundrels and political thugs, we feared we would never be able to put them on a leash. Jonathan proved and vindicated himself showing he was never in cahoots with these demonic heralds spewing pukes all over and about during time of campaign, that's why in a way he is our hero, though not a saint.
ReplyDeleteAll those that have sinned against the Nigerian people must never go UNPUNISHED.
ReplyDeleteWow
ReplyDeleteWow
Wow
Jonathan defeat lead to his heroism wow
Can't shout though
Jona had everything within his reach to continue but he never did, u will forever grow from glory to glory and strength to strength. As for buhari pls we all are expecting a hell a lot from u, don't fall our hands or u will be impeached soon by God not by house of assembly. GEJ till may 29 but I used to write till 2019
Man proposes God disposes, is well

GEJ does not belong to a violence group nor religion, he has developmental attitude for Nigeria. He saw blood ahead to be shed by blood suckers. Am waiting to see how Buhari, Tinubu, Atiku and OBJ will run ds administration.
ReplyDeleteOga so you day go NIGHT CLUB?
ReplyDeleteBuhari apparently GEJ has more honor than you. Gracious in defeat and honest, some thing I cannot say about you given how you theatrically 'cried' on national TV riling your people to go hunt and kill my people.
ReplyDeleteEveryone thought too, cos his action of being desperate were evident.
ReplyDeleteNice of him! GMB, nigerians re looking up to thee..
ReplyDeleteHe had no choice, the world has changed....he will only humiliate himself
ReplyDeleteAm glad APC knows all dis!
ReplyDeleteAuntylindagoddaughter
lol, do GEJ look like a violent man, they are afraid cos they rigged the election. they are now happy.

Ws so scared for this election buh it came n passed like a Saturday morning inspection...sure apc wud av never conceded defeat too...what with d way amaechi said dey wud form a parallel govt if pdp rigged n won, while apc allowed kids to vote in northern states. Northern impoverished and Boko Haram stricken states had millions of votes....where did dey get the time and money to apply for their pvc.....its difficult to knw dese facts even when reported to you and you just conceed defeat and let go. Jonathan is just a hero srzly.

ReplyDeleteIts in his best interest to concede defeat because the result is evident that people voted for buhari massively. All in all he is a good man but he try and caution his wife.

ReplyDeleteI wonder if it was vice versa, whether GMB would ve conceded defeat lyk GEJ did. The last three times he lost, der was bloodshed. I am xpectin to see d CHANGE soon.

ReplyDeleteHonestly, we were all terrified. I hardly slept from Friday till that evening GEJ called GMB and conceded. My thoughts were exactly as he stated: these people would stop at NOTHING. For Mr Orubebe to have behaved in such an inciteful and despicable manner left no doubt in my mind that those orchestrating this were evil, desperate and ready to take all of us , literally the whole nation, down with them.
ReplyDeleteWhether Goodluck is a hero is left for history to judge. I am personally of the opinion that the international pressure was just too much to bear. A big thank you to our APC thinktank who worked behind the scenes with the likes of OBJ etc to ensure that the steady international pressure on GEJ was unrelenting, persistent and determined. APC is really a force to be reckoned with. They dotted their i's crossed all their t's and left us in awe of this tsunami called CHANGE!
Gej save Nigerians from collapsing, the south are the ones bringing money to this country because of their oil...if Gej hadn't concede, .....hmmmm,only God knows where we wud be now...
ReplyDeleteThat's to show Mr jonathan is a good man
ReplyDeleteGuess....you underestimated him
ReplyDeleteYou have nothing to worry about, Jonathan is not a violent person, he is not like u all
ReplyDeleteLinda, we were also surprised GEJ conceded defeat and at the same time congratulated GMB.
ReplyDeleteBut we now know that GEJ is a true democrat and someone who wants our democracy to grow.
I was very happy at what GEJ did and i believe his action is a good one in the right direction.
I just hope other Leaders in
africa will learn from him.
Long live Nigeria

ReplyDeleteMallam Garba Shehu, the reason why it is different is because Jonathan is a Southerner and a Christian. He is not a Northern muslim like you because that is how you all from that part of the country think. It's always a do or die with your people. Extremism always: ur religious views, your weather, ur wealthy and poor people, your educated and non-educated people etc.
ReplyDeleteNo grey area for your side, no objectivity. It's either people do as you wish or they pay dearly for it. So don't be surprised Mallam, we Southerners are more civilised and compassionate than you. Don't judge us by the ways of the Northerners/Muslims. Keep it at your side.
Aint no bother got time for that here. All we want is peace! Mr. President has led by example and has left an indellible mark. Hopefully, Buhari has learnt that from him.
All I know is Igbo's and Hausa are tribalism in nature. May help u all.

Chai! True confession. "Out of d abundance of d heart, d mouth speaketh". Shows dat if d result were 2 be d oda way round, hell wuld av being let loose. Tank God 4 dat moment of wise decision, gud tinkin 4rm GEJ.
ReplyDeleteThis write up is strictly for those who didn't consider Jonathan, a Hero
ReplyDeleteif i was the vice versa, would GMB have conceded defeat like GEJ did, with the past political violence and lives lost. we are waiting for the CHANGE.
ReplyDeleteJonathan is a man of peace! So what else did they expect
ReplyDeleteGEJ is an African hero
ReplyDeleteIt's the MIGHTY handwork of our LORD JESUS CHRIST who proved HIMSELF as our JEHOVAH SHALOM.

GEJ the man who wrote his name in GOLD. And thats all that matters. The true son of the soil.
ReplyDeleteGEJ is the real deal, Even APC know this ...because if the reverse was the case, there'd be no peace in this country by now ...He did something so Noble and commendable, little wonder everyone is praising him #God bless You President Goodluck Ebele Johnathan

LET THEM KNOW, THAT WE KNOW.
ReplyDeleteIn a gradual process, we will say things the way it was, we will speak of the conspiracy that even the closest ally of President Jonathan entered in the dark against our people. We will tell the contraption called Nigeria that in the early morning of 30th of March, Bauchi State results were APC 457,786, PDP 559,897. But by afternoon on Tuesday, 31st, March, the Bauchi State results was announced as APC 931,598 and PDP 86,085. We will tell the world that the number of accredited voters was reduced from its original, the reasons we cant say.
The true results are filtering in, but it is of no use. Even what transpired in Kano State, we will tell the world. We will remind the contraption called Nigeria that those that voted in the real elections in Kano were more than those that were accredited. We will come out with papers that showed that PDP’s vote was already 407,322, when delegates at the situation room including the PDP agents decided they had to stop adding PDP votes that still had the capacity to double what was already counted. Did they stop there? NO, they slashed it down to 215,779 and converted the remaining uncounted for the Northern agenda.
Let them know, that we know. Let them know that the PDP Chairman refused to take President Jonathan’s call on the night of 30th when Mr President was told that Mua’zu had given a go ahead to disrupt the Bauchi’s votes because they feared the Bauchi’s vote was going to change the game even with all the rape that was done. Let them know that we are aware that Adamawa’s vote was slashed on the clear instructions from the INEC Commissioner after taking a call we cannot say who the voice from the other end was. Let them knowthat we will tell them what happened in Gombe.
We will also tell the world that Kaduna state results were accepted even when 7 local governments with more than 400,000 eligible voters were denied their rights to vote by the INEC commissioner. We will tell then that Jega was under some duress. When the time is right, we will speak IF IT WILL STILL BE NECESSARY. Let them know that we know. And we are taking records.
(Culled)
Whom is this above epistle for, cos I can't read?. Sorry mate.
DeleteAnd don't forget dat south east video where 10 guys tumble printed for 800 people is still on YouTube and d pic of d honourable caught wit 400 voters card still on line. Sit up from ur brain and talk wit sense. Change is here
DeleteLet them know... Time will tell. @sweetie keep quiet Child
DeleteAtleast gmb learnt a good lesson, presidency is not a do or die affair, safety of Nigerians matters, violence is not the way, peace is all we need. Thank God for Christianity, the world would v been a sad place.
ReplyDeleteVery sad place. Thank God
DeleteDo you think everyone is like you?
ReplyDeleteYour lack of grace ushered in all this excuse for violence
I am not a GEJ supporter but his grace in defeat will always be remembered favorably
God bless him for that
