Buhari: ‘We feared Jonathan would not accept defeat’ - APC

The APC said when they found out they'd won the election, they feared that Pres. Jonathan would reject the result and invent a military intervention to stop Buhari from being president but were surprised when, not only did Pres. Jonathan concede defeat, but called Buhari to congratulate him. This was something the APC didn't expect and would be forever grateful to Jonathan for...

The Director, Media and Publicity Directorate of the APC Presidential Campaign Organization, Mallam Garba Shehu, talked to Vanguard about APC's surprise on GEJ's phenomenal move...
“I can say that the President acted with grace. He surprised us because we never expected that they would accept defeat. In fact, the sense everyone had was that they probably had plan A, B, C or D. And in any case, with the kind of thing that Mr. Orubebe did at the collation center, you knew that even when the President had grace, given the chance with the community of people around him, they could have threatened this democracy.
“Look, I have been involved in presidential campaigns about three or four times in the past, the difference is that this is the most fearful campaign that I have ever experienced. This is the most life threatening campaign because we were dealing with opponents we thought would stop at nothing because they were throwing everything into it.

So, we were not taking anything for granted. It affected our lives. Would you see me in a night club? You couldn’t risk it because you didn’t even know who was trailing you. And it came as a huge relief.

“Again, we were getting security reports from our own sources. Until the President said ‘I concede’ and congratulated Buhari, we felt every minute that something wrong would happen. There was a clear and discernible threat to democracy as a system of government.

“Look, everyone felt concerned because, what if, God forbid, he declared a coup? These scenarios had been laid before Nigerians. Mr. Okupe, the Special Adviser to the President, was he not on Youtube, recorded on video, saying that Buhari will never become President? What do you take that for? It means that Buhari would win and they will take it away from him.

“This careless talk, arrogant display of power, it had come from the Villa. Many sources with linkages to power: Asari-Dokubo, Chief E.K. Clark and all of them, were they not sounding words to the President? They had said it that they would take away their part of the country from Nigeria if Buhari won.

“But for the President to have come and say ‘I accept defeat as the leader of the country’; that had an effect of really calming things down. And that’s why, whether they like it or not, President Jonathan has written his name in gold in so far as this is concerned.” Shehu said.

He then assured that the Buhari would not avenge the attacks on his person by the allies of Jonathan, saying there was enough work to do to meet the aspirations of Nigerians than pursuing mundane things.

  9. GEJ is peaceful, GEJ is God fearing, GEJ is humble, GEJ is a gentle man, GEJ is the most tolerant President ever and GEJ dose not want the blood of Nigerians on his hand. I wish Buhari did that when he lost in 2011. SMH. GOD BLESS GEJ.

  23. Sir, we apreciate ur insight. We will rem this. When it will be ur turn 2 concede defeat, do the same and hand over power.
Meanwhile stop all these praises and get down to work. The task of straightening Nigeria is very uphill. The so-called gracefulness shld not let anybody off the hood. Don't begin 2 sound like the rogues u have just removed from office.
    Pls get down 2 work.

  24. Abeg! They think everyone is a sore loser like Buhari. Smh!

  38. What an irony. Buhari will still revenge on those allies who are corrupt. GEJ is a peaceful man even before he conceded defeat. The threats and continued massacre of innocent lives was a well planned political strategy to win the election.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Nigeria is messed up today is because Buhari did not accept defeat in 2011 thereby frustrating Gej ' s administration... whoever dat has a hand in frustrating Gej and making him concentrate on trying 2 stop Bh will never know peace..

  43. GEJ is a man. There are also manythat would have reacted but the phone call he made before the final result came out calm some nerves. If the person involved could do that, there is no need fighting they said to themselves. GEJ action made Orubebe begs for forgiveness, his action made most of his allies who campaigned negatively to send congratulatory message, his action gave us christians peace in the north. May your days be long GEJ, you shall never lack peace in your household and you are forever in our hearts. You are loved GEJ.

Jonathan proved and vindicated himself showing he was never in cahoots with these demonic heralds spewing pukes all over and about during time of campaign, that's why in a way he is our hero, though not a saint.

  84. Honestly, we were all terrified. I hardly slept from Friday till that evening GEJ called GMB and conceded. My thoughts were exactly as he stated: these people would stop at NOTHING. For Mr Orubebe to have behaved in such an inciteful and despicable manner left no doubt in my mind that those orchestrating this were evil, desperate and ready to take all of us , literally the whole nation, down with them.
Whether Goodluck is a hero is left for history to judge. I am personally of the opinion that the international pressure was just too much to bear. A big thank you to our APC thinktank who worked behind the scenes with the likes of OBJ etc to ensure that the steady international pressure on GEJ was unrelenting, persistent and determined. APC is really a force to be reckoned with. They dotted their i's crossed all their t's and left us in awe of this tsunami called CHANGE!

He is not a Northern muslim like you because that is how you all from that part of the country think. It's always a do or die with your people. Extremism always: ur religious views, your weather, ur wealthy and poor people, your educated and non-educated people etc.

No grey area for your side, no objectivity. It's either people do as you wish or they pay dearly for it. So don't be surprised Mallam, we Southerners are more civilised and compassionate than you. Don't judge us by the ways of the Northerners/Muslims. Keep it at your side.

Aint no bother got time for that here. All we want is peace! Mr. President has led by example and has left an indellible mark. Hopefully, Buhari has learnt that from him.

  106. LET THEM KNOW, THAT WE KNOW.

In a gradual process, we will say things the way it was, we will speak of the conspiracy that even the closest ally of President Jonathan entered in the dark against our people. We will tell the contraption called Nigeria that in the early morning of 30th of March, Bauchi State results were APC 457,786, PDP 559,897. But by afternoon on Tuesday, 31st, March, the Bauchi State results was announced as APC 931,598 and PDP 86,085. We will tell the world that the number of accredited voters was reduced from its original, the reasons we cant say.

The true results are filtering in, but it is of no use. Even what transpired in Kano State, we will tell the world. We will remind the contraption called Nigeria that those that voted in the real elections in Kano were more than those that were accredited. We will come out with papers that showed that PDP’s vote was already 407,322, when delegates at the situation room including the PDP agents decided they had to stop adding PDP votes that still had the capacity to double what was already counted. Did they stop there? NO, they slashed it down to 215,779 and converted the remaining uncounted for the Northern agenda.

Let them know, that we know. Let them know that the PDP Chairman refused to take President Jonathan’s call on the night of 30th when Mr President was told that Mua’zu had given a go ahead to disrupt the Bauchi’s votes because they feared the Bauchi’s vote was going to change the game even with all the rape that was done. Let them know that we are aware that Adamawa’s vote was slashed on the clear instructions from the INEC Commissioner after taking a call we cannot say who the voice from the other end was. Let them knowthat we will tell them what happened in Gombe.

We will also tell the world that Kaduna state results were accepted even when 7 local governments with more than 400,000 eligible voters were denied their rights to vote by the INEC commissioner. We will tell then that Jega was under some duress. When the time is right, we will speak IF IT WILL STILL BE NECESSARY. Let them know that we know. And we are taking records.
