All accredited media, including AIT, free to cover President-elect’s activities – APC

APC just released a statement saying all accredited media, including AIT, are free to cover President-elect’s activities. Read below...
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has said that all accredited media organizations in the country, including the African Independent Television (AIT), are free to cover the activities of the President-elect, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari.
In a statement issued in Abuja on Tuesday by its National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, the party said the incoming Buhari Administration will not discriminate against any media organization, irrespective of its role during the electioneering campaign leading up to the recent polls.

It however enjoined all media organizations to observe the highest level of professional standards in carrying out their duties.

”There is a Code of Ethics guiding the practice of journalism in Nigeria, and this demands every journalist to ensure a strict adherence to the highest levels of ethics and professionalism in carrying out their duties.

”There must be repercussions, within the realms of the law, for media organizations which have wantonly breached the Code of Ethics of the journalism profession and turned themselves to partisans instead of professionals. But such repercussions will not include barring any accredited media organization from covering the activities of the President-elect,” APC said.

Just be prepared, similar cases will keep re-occurring through out his tenure as president.

Why are they scared of the media all of a sudden? They have their freedom and should never be intimidated by any person in power. And if at all, there's a problem, they should seek redress through proper channels and not barring them from
Activities that are of the publics interest. What nonsense

Its a pity that an average nija person cant be sincere and honest and speak up for wat is right and wrong. How can u in a democratic era ban a media house from airing ur activities, who dose that? Incase u dont know, its only someone who has no respect for d law or democracy, a dictator. Everyday i praise God that am no longer in that country cos its really difficult dealing with people who dont know their left from right. Its like people just go to school for d fun of it, they nver use their brain or argue intelligently. Gosh its so sad.

  19. Linda, you wanted to giveway 100,000 naira and 10,750 people responded! this shows the reality of the situataion in Nigeria, people are in real poverty. I also think your give aways do not make real sense to give back rather i think you are using it to generate more traffic for your blog. i have commented severally that you engage in empowering the youth that regularly visit your blog to generate your riches for you through other means such as organizing free business trainings for them, help start up businesses i.e free advert on your blog on specific days for SMEs. Rather you delete my comments, u are probably saving & aiming to buy a private jet. You also seem to be now politically motivated going by your posts. Are you honestly saying u dont know APC is trying to do damage control here? And y do u think they ar doing dat? Incase u dont know, its because our president elect went out of line. He acted without any respect to democracy and freedom of speech. We should alws rise up and speak for what is right or wrong and stop hiding d truth or following our supporters blindly. We went to school so we will know our left from right, criticise reasonably when the need arises. Dont they teach criticism in Nija schools? If u dont speak up for what is wrong or right, how will our leaders learn and change? If they dont learn and change how will they be able to help u? If u dont want ur private life to be aired to d public, perhaps dont put urself out there by contesting for presidency. Every media house have freedom of speech, if what is written about you is offensive, by all means go to the right channel and seek redress, why act like a dictator? And y'all ar here dancing around the truth.

    4. @Mr Yemi,Ait violated the ethics and standards of journalism, they had gone too far, they attacked his private life and even said he's the reason his wife and first daughter died, that was too much, they could pledge their allegiance to PDP without being partial..... the reasons the general gave cannot be brushed aside...Security and Family......he's human and he has to be careful......I believe he should let them be newaiz.....

    5. Mr damage control, go and sit down somewhere. First he didn't ban ait, he only barred them from airing any of his activities. Secondly he is still a private individual, he's not the president yet. People are referring to TVC being anti-jonathan, their campaigns were strictly issue-base. How can you say he is the reason his daughter died, and you want him to give them access to cover his activities. I am not supporting him, just saying he has his reasons, and they are quite genuine.

  40. APC and Buhari are BIG FOOLS. APC are just trying to cover Buhari up from what he's truly known for. Buhari is an un-repented evil dictator that will never change. He's said it even during his campaign that he will not allow the media to have press freedom. I'm surprised APC is now talking about ethics and proffessionalism in the mediam I believe all APC members are suffering from amnesia like their president elect Buhari. Have they forgotten so soon the role the media played in promoting their propaganda and lies against GEJ's government. All the fools in APC including Buhari must allow the media to exercise it's press freedom so there will be proper scrutiny of of administration. To HELL with that OLD WICKED HAUSA FOOLISH COW CALLED BUHARI. Once a dictator always a dictator.

After all, if there was a real grieve against AIT, the courts would had better resolved the issue as happened in 2011 when Reuben Abati had to apologize to The General for a write-up he had on Guardian Newspaper. The General sued then. Now, because he has power and also authority The general barks orders. A zebra never ever changes it's spots. So sad that it takes his party APC, by reversing the "order" to remind him that he is no longer a dictator

if someone else had done this now, they would be the same ones screaming to highest heavens
