The problem with Nigeria is mismanagement-Obasanjo

Former President Obasanjo says the problem with Nigeria is mainly the mismanagement of our resources. He said this during his 78th birthday lecture which held at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library in Ogun state yesterday March 5th
"I am an incurable optimist about this country, and may be because I have seen a little bit in my short span of life, a little bit of what is possible and a little bit of what can go wrong and what can be made to go wrong. Maybe, that is why I am an incurable optimist and I believe that all will be well in this country, we have no choice anyway, all has to be well.

My concern is that we have too many think tanks, we need more of do-tanks. The point is we can do and we have no reason why we can’t do and we have also seen that one individual can make a difference. There is no reason why any Nigerian child, at this point in time, should not have basic education, food and nutrition, and not only Nigeria child, any Nigerian should not go to bed without food. We have the resources to achieve all that. If we are not achieving it, does not mean we don’t have the resources, it is because we haven’t managed our resources well.” he said

    2. During OBJ's 8yrs in office $16 billion dollars was appropriated for the power sector alone, he stole the money and the only achievement on record was a change of name from NEPA to PHCN. today he has the guts to come out and complain. Is he just realizing the damages he and his cohorts did to this country or is he thinking that Nigerians have short memories like him. He should better arrange himself and stop this foolish talks here and there, nonsense bigot.

      Delete
    3. Anonymous 3:46, from the records, with the $16billion OBJ allocated for power, he built 9 power plants which were ready for power generation as at the time he left govt. I also remember vividly that after he left govt, this current govt confirmed there were thousands of tranformers and prepaid meters at the port, all these were brought with another part of the $16billion. I am sure you that you are aware there was a time prepaid meters were being distributed free of charge to people, that was OBJ's plan and it was taken care of by the $16billion but when he left, they started selling them to us. The most important thing to say is, even if he mismanaged the country and its resources when he was there, it is not enough justification for people after him to continue in that line, and that is why constitution provides that elections should hold every four years so that people can change whoever is mismanaging our resources.

  29. Personally I believe Obasanjo is the worst president Nigeria ever had. Not because he committed atrocities or encourage corruption or nothing like that, but because if ever there was a president that could have COMPLETELY turned things around in Nigeria, it was him. He had the smarts, he had the balls, he is very adept at political mind games, he was feared, he was revered... He could very well have "fixed" Nigeria... But for whatever reasons, he did not. He did make some notable achievements, but he had the power, resources, and know-how to have done so much more. Know we Nigerians are so used to mediocrity in governance that the smallest of achievement (which falls under the perview of their "responsibilities" anyways) freaks us, but just this one man's opinion... Obasanjo is the worst of them all.

  36. Obasanjo still remains the best president Nigeria has ever had since 1960. Prove me wrong by mentioning who was or is better than him. Yes, he should have done more, quite unfortunately, he did not. Like the say, time is precious and waits for no one.

For the record, Obasanjo was responsible for the economic boom of 2003 and who would forget the telecommunication and banking economic revolution and likewise, the internet we are chatting and browsing with.

Obasanjo also commenced the Agricultural revolution. What about Pension reform policy, Health Insurance Scheme, Monetization and Privatisation programme. EFCC and ICPC anti-corruption programme and Paris Club Debt relief and external reserves was $43 billion to mention a few. Finally, our GDP had a record high of 7.9% yet to be beaten. This was not paper/statistics GDP oh.

Pheww - I guess as Nigerians we either have amnesia or we just criticise for the sake of it. But if we must criticize, be fair about it.

I repeat, Obasanjo remains the best president Nigeria has ever had.

A man that ruled Nigeria as military head of state and later eight years as a civilian president, in all your years of leadership you did not realise you were mismanaging resources. If your likes and Buhari and other past leaders managed Nigeria properly, we wouldn't be having most of the current problems. Instead you will do the right thing then, you stole and enriched yourself. You are now blaming GEJ who is trying to correct all the stupid mistakes you and other past leaders made. Please you,Buhari and all former leaders that does not want Nigeria to move forward go on exile pr die so Nigeria will be peaceful. FAKE OBJ.
