Photos: police reportedly tear gas protesting women in Imo during GEJ's visit yesterday

Women believed to be members of APC in Imo state were allegedly tear-gased by security men as they protested the use of the Imo state Women development center, venue of President Jonathan's meeting with Imo state indigenes yesterday March 24th.

The women were said to have been protesting being shut out of the Women Development Center which they had earlier booked before President Jonathan's visit. The women barricaded the entrance into the State Secretariat of Imo State Council of Traditional Rulers, ahead of the visit of President Jonathan to the place, and were teargassed after they refused the advice of the security agencies to leave the premises before the president arrived. More pics after the cut...

I just pity some of these women that can barely feed well disgracing themselves in all in the name of political parties that do not give a hoot about them. I just thank God for the kind of hard working mother i had while she was alive. Women should learn to stop licking the butt of these people because of some bags of rice and 2 yards of wax......

  40. this Wilhelmina Moses of a person is just so insensitive. Is Jonathan a god that people should be afraid of. What if your mother were to be amongst those women, would you have said such. You tend to forget that you are a woman just like them. Whatever those women did never required them to be teargased. Its called a peaceful protest and it is allowed anywhere in the world. Jonathan is human just like them and shouldn't be feared.

  41. olajide Olushola,
Please, note that Jonathan is a democrat and not a doormat as you people like to call him. He is the president of this country and you should be ashamed that you support the likes of Amaechi and Rochas who engineer these straw protests to stop him using venues in their states for his campaign.

  54. APC is just radicalizing Nigerians, imagine there action, telling the president to leave so they can make use of the complex, the way the APC and there supporters disrespect the office of the president is very annoying,we dont have conscience any more acting like zombies all bcos of politics.

  55. Is it GEJ that tear gased the women. For some people GEJ is responsible for everything. Even if a rat runs across their sitting room, it is because of GEJ. Nigerians that are frustrated and blaming the FG for everthing even expecting them to come and spoon feed them in their houses, you will be surprised that even if you were relocated to the US or England you will still be in the same situation unless you get off your butt and work. It might even be worse over there. I was in the US for a few months and ran back to Nigeria because things are even tougher over there. If you don't work very haaarrdd!!. You will remain poor. As for England, they will probably put you on welfare but you will remain below the poverty line till you decide to take fate into your hands and work very hard.

  56. It's sad the ibo race don't have stand on any nigeria issue. All they want is go and buy and sale. Traders (business men and women). Give them rice and money and they tell you to take there children. Every year second niger bridge. Oha na eze clueless like the head of state. Aka ikenga champaing drinkers club. The ibo people will say "allow jonathan and after 2019 let the northerners take over". When will the ibo person take over? Have they ever had executive president? No. Zik was not. Ironsi was head of state fot six months. That's all

  62. Where is the democracy here? The women booked the hall first! There are one million other ways to address this issue other than tear gassing them. Let's learn to respect our mothers, for without women, presidents and kings won't exist. I'm not supporting the women for disrespecting their president, but everything still comes down to communication. Violence wasn't necessary here.

  67. Imo state Governor, Owelle Anayo Rochas, ahead of President Goodluck Jonathan visit to Traditonal Rulers at the state secretariat of the state council of Traditional rulers, has mobilized Women from neighboring states to disrupt the visit of the President and to also cause confusion in the state while laying the blame on the President visit.

A visit to some neighborhoods has the presence of Women who are camped there by Governor Okorocha.

When asked what they came to do in the State, some of the women revealed that they were “mobilized” by persons working on behalf of the state government to stage a protest against the President.

  71. For those under age children who visits this blog to give insulting response to others comments Linda pls their comments should be dead on arrival.
Come to think of it, why would the women insist on using the same venue when the president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria wants the same venue? I know the women doesn't have anything to do in that venue, it was all Okorocha 's politicking. The other time, APC went to Rivers State to campaign in the state's stadium but a week after, The President wanted to use the same venue and Rivers State Govt. (Amechi) denied the president from using the stadium, his reasons? That the stadium is under renovation and now Rochas? It is only in this country in fact only to Jonathan can this be done and you go scot free. Any reasonable woman/human wouldn't do what those women did cos of money. Even if my mother were to be among them I'll tell her 'shame on you'
What would you have the police do when they refused to to heed their advice, beat them up?
Let's be reasonable and and forget politics for once. He is the president whether you like it or not

Foolish women, because of peanut that was given to you, you went to endenger ypur lives, I swear, if my mothers participates in such, she deserve whatever they get, don't they have respect? Disrespectting the office of the presidency, APC has clearly taught and set a precedence of disrespect to elders among the youth, they will reap what they sowed one day, that is how buhari started bokoharam when he lost election, not knowing they will outgrow and come to haunt them later on.
