Lionel Messi tops football rich list, takes home nearly $1.4m-a-week

4-time World Footballer of the Year Lionel Messi is the highest-paid footballer in the world. He took home nearly $1.4million-a-week last year in wages and sponsorship deals.

The Argentina and Barcelona star earned a staggering $72million in 201. He made about $38million as his club salary and the rest were from lucrative endorsements with the likes of adidas, FIFA 15 and Turkish Airlines.

This makes him richer than his arch-rival, Cristiano Ronaldo who brought in about $60million in 2014. This is according to the latest France Football magazine rich list. See the rest after the cut..

    Linda there is a marked difference between wealth and income. If someone is the 'highest earning' athlete, he is not necessarily the 'richest'. Even a multi-millionaire will soon go broke if he spends like a billionaire.

    No offence but this list does not make messi richer than ronaldo, it just states that messi earned more In 2014, it is not net worth. Based on net worth. Ronaldo is about 2million richer.
