Photos: Atiku Abubakar meets with young people in Lagos

Former VP and aspiring presidential candidate of the APC, Atiku Abubakar had an interactive session with some youths in Lagos on Saturday Sept. 20th. During the meeting, Atiku said if elected, 50% of his cabinet will be made of qualified young people. See pics from the event after the cut...

Asked if any of his children study here in Nigeria, Atiku said
"My daughters went to ABU(Ahmadu Bello University Zaria), one in Medicine, one in Pharmacy. The strikes did drive some of my kids abroad. They needed to finish on time. This is unfortunate and we need to fix it. Student fees do not cover AUN's recurrent expenditures. I cover that for now"
Asked if he will be defecting to any other party after his defection from PDP to APC, Atiku says the APC is "my last bus stop".

On how to improve executive accountability, Atiku advised that young people should elect better House of Assembly and Representative members.

Dispelling rumors of being declared wanted in America. Atiku said he has an American visa which was issued last year but that he has no reason to visit the United states for now as his family doesn't live there anymore.

On how he would be improving the economy if elected President, Atiku said he would be focusing on
"Agriculture and Human resource base. Our economy does not need to be resource based. Our resources should be a means to an end. Our people must be willing to take risks. My first real business in transportation (hire purchase). I actually lost my transport business but I tried again. I kept on. Young entrepreneurs need access to low interest funding and business information".

So you Pay all staff from your pocket and buy all the lecture materials if you knw what recurrent means. and the fee is for fixed assets of the University?

    1. Dear Anya, his comment about AUN is possibly true . I served (NYSC) in one of his firms and I got to find out then that the organisation wasn't making that much money. In fact all office supplies and salaries, from the GM down to the cleaners was paid monthly from Mr Atiku's pocket. However, this was as far back as 2010/2011. I don't know about now.

Atiku, aso rock is not a birth right! What was your impact on Nigeria as a vice president? Aside making Genevieve sing that no more fight song that didn't sell more than 4 copies aftr your wife Titi attacked her, what else were you known for? 50% youth my foot! Any good Nigerian who vies for a position because he wants the good of Nigeria must first work with the present administration to help Nigeria! You must not be in power to help Nigeria!

  40. What would be Atikus Method of Selecting the 50% youth of his Cabinet?By Recommendation? Election? Corruption? Nepotism? favoritism? or political appointment which we all know that it is only the sons and daughters of the rich that would have the opportunity? look Neither of Atiku and Jona is Qualified. it is better for Nigeria to remain without a President.

  71. NIGERIANS DO NOT BE FOOLED: ATIKU ABUBAKAR STILL HAS A CASE TO ANSWER FOR MONEY LAUNDERING CHARGES LEVELED BY THE UNITED STATES SENATE. Please see excerpt culled from Sahara Reporters below.......

A United States Senate report has accused Atiku Abubakar, Nigeria’s former Vice-President, of laundering over $40 million in suspicious funds into the United States between 2000 and 2008. And his partner in the lucrative effort was Jennifer Douglas, his fourth wife. Ms. Douglas is sometimes known as Lady Jamilah Jennifer, or Douglas E, or Jennifer Iwenjora, the name by which she was known in the 1980s when she was a reporter with the Nigeria Television Authority in Lagos.

According to the report, which was written by the Senate Subcommittee on Investigations, most of the funds were through wire transfers sent by offshore corporations to U.S. bank accounts.

Of the $40 million identified in the US investigation, $25 million was reportedly wire-transferred by offshore corporations into more than 30 U.S. bank accounts opened by Ms. Douglas, primarily by Guernsey Trust Company Nigeria Ltd., LetsGo Ltd. Inc., and Sima Holding Ltd.

“In a 2008 civil complaint, the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission alleged that Ms. Douglas received over $2 million in bribe payments in 2001 and 2002, from Siemens AG, a major German corporation,” the report says. “While Ms. Douglas denies wrongdoing, Siemens has already pled (pleaded) guilty to U.S. criminal charges and settled civil charges related to bribery and told the Subcommittee that it sent the payments to one of her U.S. accounts.

The report also recalls the 2006/2007 corruption brouhaha in Nigeria between Abubakar and then President Olusegun Obasanjo over the Petroleum Technology Development Fund. At that time, both a government panel and an Economic and Financial Crimes Commission panel found Atiku guilty of diverting funds meant for the Fund's operations nationwide to various banks to promote his private interests. Obasanjo dismissed his own extensive gains from the account as pointed out by Abubakar as mere "gifts" over which he had no control.

The report goes on: “The U.S. banks maintaining those accounts were, at times, unaware of her PEP (Politically Exposed Person) status, and they allowed multiple, large offshore wire transfers into her accounts. As each bank began to question the offshore wire transfers, Ms. Douglas indicated that all of the funds came from her husband and professed little familiarity with the offshore corporations actually sending her money. When one bank closed her account due to the offshore wire transfers, her lawyer helped convince other banks to provide a new account.

”In addition, two of the offshore corporations wire transferred about $14 million over five years to American University in Washington, D.C., to pay for consulting services related to the development of a Nigerian university founded by Mr. Abubakar. American University accepted the wire transfers without asking about the identity of the offshore corporations or the source of their funds, because under current law, the University had no legal obligation to inquire.”.......

DO NOT BE FOOLED. OLD LOOTERS FROM OBASANJO'S TIME WANT TO COME BACK AND STEAL SOME MORE BECAUSE THEY SAW AND TASTED OIL MONEY AT THE EXPENSE OF US NIGERIANS.

    DO NOT BE FOOLED.
