$9.3m arms deal scandal: Oritsejafor breaks silence, says I have no hand in it

The President of the Christian Association of Nigeria, Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor, yesterday broke his silence over the $9.3m arms deal scandal in which his private jet was used to carry the huge sum of money out of Nigeria to South Africa. Speaking at the National Executive Council meeting of CAN at the National Christian Center in Abuja, Pastor Oritsejafor absolved himself of any wrong doing, saying he would never do anything that would tarnish the image of Jesus Christ
"I wish to assure you that I will not do anything to tarnish the image of Jesus Christ or compromise the divine standard of the church. As you are all aware, the media has been awashed in the past few days about an unfortunate incident involving the movement of funds from Nigeria to South Africa. In the unfortunate news reports, attempts have been made to link me directly with the transaction. So far, I have refrained from making any direct public response pending the time that I would have briefed the leaders of the church and explained my position on the issues to them.
I believe that the primary institution that I owe any explanation to is the church. At the risk of being seen to be defending myself, I wish to confirm to the distinguished leaders of the church that the Bombardier Challenger 601 aircraft in question is mine. The aircraft was presented to me as a gift by members of our congregation and ministry partners worldwide at my 40th anniversary of my call into the ministry. May I be permitted to stress that the aircraft was not given to me by the President of Nigeria, neither was it a settlement for any political favour or patronage. With the benefit of hindsight, the President of the country was a guest in our church during the anniversary celebration when the jet was presented to me. This has construed an implication that it was a gift from the President of the country. The President of Nigeria has nothing to do with the gift of the aircraft. By the way, I still wonder why all those saying this cannot come out to show proof so that the matter can be put to rest once and for all. Let me say that this might be an issue of the court in the near future ”he said
He said he was also shocked and distressed at finding out what the private jet which he leased to the company managing it used it for, adding that there is a war being waged against the church in Nigeria
"Based on this, I leased the aircraft on August 2, 2014, to a company to run it. It was the lease that entered into an agreement with the people who carried out the transfer of funds. Having leased the aircraft to the Green Coast Produce Company Limited, any transaction undertaken with the aircraft can no longer be attached to me. Inasmuch as I am shocked and distressed by the incident, I wish to appeal to Christians in Nigeria to remember that a war has been waged against the Nigerian church. This war is being fought on many fronts and this unfortunate incident is another dimension in the assault against the church." He said
He went further to state that;
"The media hype and the deliberate distortion of information that followed it confirmed that forces that desperately desire to cause division and disunity in the church are at work. Even the devil knows that a house that is divided cannot stand. As Christians, we need unity in the church now more than ever. We are witnessing inhuman attacks by religious extremists against Christians in the northern part of the country, while christian infrastructure is being destroyed in hundreds. If we permit the enemy divide us, our chances of corporate survival shall be severely threatened. Distinguished leaders of the church, please permit me to state clearly before God and before all of you here present today, that I am not a party to the movement of $9.3m from Nigeria to South Africa to purchase arms and ammunition. I am not part of the deal. I know nothing about it.” he said

    2. @ anonymous and Madubuko. I'm disappointed in both your resoonses. Why would anyone believe this money launderer. This man is a close friend of the Presjdent and Knows what the time is. All the gibberish he said was rubbish and is so unfortunate that all majority of these religious leader were being idolized for nothing. This guy Has been laundering money for the people above and was only caught this time. i remember that
In one of former CBN director / Mallam Sanusi, he said one religious leader launder millions of dollars with his private jet and no one pays attention to
Him then. Perhaps he was referring to this hypocrite son of gun. This people are far from being a man of God as they were only doing it for financial gratification and there is a place reserved for them in HELL

    3. So because his jet was used is a crime, if you are going to abuja for example and you use arik does it mean that you have a relationship with arik, mind what you say, I have always know that you are a member of boko haram they will get you soon.

    4. Over $40 million as a gift? Of course is a gift from the people he launder money for. Is unfortunate that he was caught this time as this in my opinion. Is not his first time. The good thing for him was that he wasn't caught in US. They really check private plane like commercial. Reason why people uses it for drug and money laundering. There must have been tip off about the plane.
Most of these so called fake pastors just like Faith Vedelago - Sen. Uba mistress uses their church to launder money for these politicians. #thereisGodoooooo

Then why lease it out for private business and not gospel purpose as purported by you and Adeboye. No one initiative to help Christian by job creation, free education for the poor. Hausa or Muslims in the north would not make this selfish acquistion of plane even if the congregation gives him. Pls. Sell the plane and make amend by crea5ing jobs for all Nigerians which is a virtue.

  30. Just as the CAN president has rightly said, this is a plot by the enemies of the church to weaken christianity. By the time they succeed in making people see christianity in bad light, it will be very easy for them to introduce their "Unchristian/Antichrist ideology" through forceful methods and other means when the time comes. Instances could be seen from some mid-eastern countries which were once christian-dominated, where and what are they today? (I leave that as food for our thoughts).
Fellow christians, let's not be quick to judge, rather leave judgement to God while we hold on strong to our christian faith, let's look unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith.
    God bless Nigeria!

And I see no reason for him to affiliate his mistake to insurgency in the North, did "they" own the money? and for the record, the war in northern Nigeria doesn't target a single religion, quite unfortunate that this man is yet, promoting inter-religion intolerance in his speech. 105. I have been following this story, and glad that Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor finally made a statement. In this statement, he mentions that he has met with the leaders of the Nigerian church, which I will be happy to read their statements too. Until all the facts come out, this looks like a plausible deniability scheme to me. In business, businessmen will use a shell company to do their dirty work, and in government, they will use covert ops, why, for plausible deniability. Shortly before the escalation of Boko Haram in sophistication and lethality, I was (in the audience) on the Capitol Hill in Washington DC listening to the testimony of Pastor Oritsejafor, urging the US government to swiftly designate BH as a (FTO) Foreign Terrorist Organization, and ever since has continued to be very vocal on this issue. By just conjecturing, my hypothesis is that given the President has come out that his government is compromised on BH, therefore the Presidency and the Pastor reached an agreement to fund a covert operation that will defend key Christian institutions in the country against BH. Unfortunately this plan was sabotaged and leaked to the South African government, and the plausible deniability plan B had to go to play. Reading between the lines, the Pastor’s statement seems to be saying folks let us look at the big picture, this is a time of war and lethal force is an option at this point. DISCLAIMER; I do not work for any government or christian group neither did I get this from any source, these are my own views, and me just piecing what appear to be flashes of facts together.

  117. Many Christians are really unaware of the devises of the devil. Very quick to judge, take sides and draw distorted conclusions. Little do you know what the enemy has cooked against the CHURCH. As for me, i am for the body of Christ.
If you must take sides make sure u have a good understanding of whats involved in buying arms, all that pertains to private jets and Nigeria. Otherwise as written in the books of Proverbs you will be foolish.

  122. I believe that Ayo Oritsejafor is a man of God. I believe that God called him to do the work of the Kingdom.

He said that he leased out the plane to a company to manage, I believe him. He said that before God and the Church, that he is not aware of the deal to use his plane to carry money, I believe him. We should know that if he leased out the plane to company, he cannot be in control of what the company does with the plane.

We should respect God by respecting Pastor Oritsejafor. If we condemn him and he is saying the truth, he will be vindicated by God and we will be accursed. But if he is not saying the truth and we condemn him, we share in his guilt, because we have no right to condemn who God has called.

That is my sincere view in this matter.

Linda ikeji blog is to read and know exactly what is happening especially we that are not in Nigeria, commenting is very different from insulting, even insulting the president of nigeria. 143. Proverbs 15:27 He that is greedy of gain troubleth his own house; but he that hateth gifts shall live. Dt's to say, not all gift is acceptable, if d jet is for ministration while lease it out, making money with P/Jet meant 4 gospel preaching. Secondly Why ur own P/Jet out of the whole P/Jet we have in Nigeria. SMH

  144. What the fuck is Ayo saying?; am pretty sure that if the jet had belonged to Buhari or the sultan or even say el rufai; oritsejafor would ave cried to heavy heavens that Muslim north is trying to wipe out christian south. In fact we ave had a toothless, shoeless, brainless and worthless christian president in the last 5 years- what ave we got for it...until Nigerians stop thinking from the myopic view of religion, we ain't going no where. People like FFK can keep spilling out animal dung from their mouth; I am a christian but I don't in any way give a f**k about the religion of whoever is the president. Lee Kwan yue never needed his religious tenets to transform Singapore from a 3rd world country into a tourist destination and first rated country. All he needed was vision and the drive. Unfortunately Nigerian youths back home only care for 20 naira here and 50 naira there. All these book wey person de read sef....i hope Nigeria won't be past tense by the time I come back home give to a country that never gave me shishi....linda do ave a sweet day...research mode already activated

  145. If he needs the jet to do some wor why sgould he sell it? And I believe it is smart to lease outr the plane rather than leaving it unused seeing as maintenance of a plane costs a lot. Everyone keeps asking why don't they use their money to help the poor, but if you wwant to b =e truthful and do your investigation well you will see that these bid churches actually doa whole lot of charity work, but we expect them to eradicate poverty, that is not what they came to do. There is a government in place to do that with structures that do not exist presently. What the church can do is assist, which in my oipnion they have done a whole lot of. For the Jack Buaer fans who feel it was a covert operation to arm the church, I partially agree, it was covert but not for the church but the government. For one reason or another they chose to hide n=and buy the weapons and someone must have ratted them out. The church does not need to have arms to fight, that is not the way we operate.

Now he is generalising the whole issue referring to church and leaders of the churches who have no idea about what is going on just to get peoples sympathy but while romancing with GEJ, building university and co, he never called on churches and their leaders. This is your issue and has nothing to do with religion.

  153. This is an issue that demands that we thread with caution. In fairness, he might have leased out the aircraft in the hope of generating funds for future sustenance of the craft. Parking of aircraft in itself is paid for, how much more its fuelling. We would not expect him to frequently run back to his gifters for more benevolence. On the other hand, he might be culpable. However it turns, I do not support the hurling of insults at a fellow, even if such person is not annointed. We could submit our concerns without being insultive. One day, perhaps in a near future, we may make huge errors too and the least we would desire is to be insulted. #MyFirstEverCommentOnThisBlog

YOU HAVE BEEN EXPOSED!! PLEASE ANSWER THE FOLLOWING QUESTIONS IF YOU DARE:

    1. IS THE JET YOURS OR YOUR CHURCH?

    2. IF IT IS YOUR CHURCH'S DID YOU INFORM THE CHURCH COUNCIL OF THE LEASE OF THE JET FOR COMMERCIAL USE?

    3. IF THE JET IS YOURS - HOW CAN YOU CLAIM YOU KNEW NOT THE PURPOSE OF ITS JOURNEY TO SOUTH AFRICA.

    4. IS 'EAGLE AIR' NOT YOUR COMPANY??

    5. WHY DID YOU LEASE YOUR JET ALLEGEDLY MEANT FOR 'PASTORAL WORK' TO YOUR OWN COMPANY, EAGLE AIR???

    6. YOUR JET WAS LEASED TO OTHER END USERS FOR A FEE - FIRS, ICPC AND THE EFCC SHOULD PROSECUTE YOU FOR TAX EVATION BECAUSE WHEN YOU REGISTERED THE JET, IT WAS REGISTERED FOR CLERGY USE - THUS ENTITLED TO VERY LOW REGISTRATION FEES AND IS EXEMPT FROM TAX!!

SIMPLY PUT: YOUR ALLEGED JET GIFT MEANT TO BE USED FOR CLERGY WORK WAS USED TO FERRY STOLEN CASH TO SOUTH AFRICA, SCHEDULED TO LAND AT A PRIVATE AIRPORT IN LANSERIA, TO BE STASHED AWAY FOR THE THIEF YOU WORK FOR PERIOD!!

ALL THIS TALK OF 'CASH FOR ARMS' IS JUST A RUSE TO COVER THE TRUTH.
