Weightlifter Chika Amalaha stripped of her Commonwealth Games Gold

16 year old Nigerian weightlifter Chika Amalaha has been stripped of her Commonwealth Games gold medal after failing her drugs test. She won the 53-kilogram division last week making her the youngest ever female to win a weightlifting title at a Commonwealth Games but unfortunately a few days later, she tested positive for diuretics and masking agents.

Commonwealth Games Federation announced today Friday August 1 that her B sample also showed traces of the substances amiloride and hydrochlorothiazide, both of which are banned by the World Anti-Doping Agency...and said they will look into how she had access to the banned substances.

Amiloride/Hydrochlorothiazide is not a banned drug in Nigeria. Commonly known as Moduretic, it is a diuretic, one of d most frequently used drugs in treating high blood pressure.

    1. Why is a 16yr old using Moduretic? Pharmacist

      Delete
    2. What exactly is ur point? Are u saying this 16yr old lady is hypertensive? Just so u know, moduretic is not banned in other parts of the world. It is banned in weightlifting because it gives an athlete competitive edge over other contestants. If u are wondering why, lookup d pharmacology of moduretic.

    1. Now enough of all these criticisms!!!!
      I'm talking to you!
Yes you all who have condemned this girl without actually thinking that those drugs in question are anti-hypertensive drugs and secondly she may have been set up.
Maybe she was careless enough to accept a drink from someone who might have drugged it.
Now she wins gold and they decide to have her tested that's cos they know she's just fallen a victim.
I remember when Christine ohurugo won her first gold medal and she was tested... Of course she tested positive and was even banned.
Eventually the truth came out and BBC couldn't stop apologising for the dented image they caused.
You all need to get a chill pill and stop with the blames.
She may have just been another unsuspecting victim.

  64. she could really be ignorant of those drugs and moreso she might be taking some drugs for her wellness/medical conditions as an athlete which unknowingly to her contain those substances since only traces were found in her blood..

    ReplyDelete
  65. What was she doing with antihypertensives? Except the diuretics are used to facilitate the excretion of a doping agent that she took. Or the metabolites cause an increase in performance. My sport pharmacy knowledge is poor. Her b.p would have dropped when she took it. Why create a problem of hypotension at that age just because you want to win?

her A and B samples confirmed she took drugs abi she go talk say she no no say she dey consume banned drugs the diuretic she took was to mask the actual drugs she took at such a young age she has started relying on drugs to perform wonderful
